Arch isn't just an operating system but a way of life.

Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
- Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudoin Windows. - No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
- Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
5. π¬π§ Language/ΡΠ·ΡΠΊ/Sprache
- This is primarily an English-speaking community. π¬π§π¦πΊπΊπΈ
- Comments written in other languages are allowed.
- The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
- Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
6. (NEW!) Regarding public figures
We all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations. - Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
- We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
- Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed. Β
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.
I've been on Garuda for a few years (Arch based) and honestly, it's been super easy. Once Pamac was installed to handle software and updates, learning about AUR and how to access it was the only remotely technical thing I had to learn.
Yeah, some things are in different places than on Windows, but we all had to learn Windows at one point too.
This drastically recontextualizes all of the "I use Arch BTW" memes. π
I chose Arch as my first distro last year and it's chugging along fine. It works just like any other computer imo.
I chose Arch as my first and only distro 13 years ago. Only had system breaking problems a handful of times in that span. They were all because I fucked something up playing with files I shouldn't have. These are all tired memes from old reputations. Pay attention to what you're doing and you'll be fine.
Debian might be good for servers, but try using it for work other than server-side stuff. Try installing a productivity application, so you're not 2 years behind with it! Try plugging in new hardware! Now the tables have turned.
I've been working and gaming on Debian for the past few years after Ubuntu started getting annoying with snap, don't really see any issues with it
Only when I installed it on my new work laptop I had to be like 1 month on sid because of hardware compatibility
One of my devices is an offline device that I bring online every few months for updates (my VPN only gives me limited spots, so some devices take turns using the VPN). I guarantee you updates this infrequent would break most distros, including Arch. But since I use an atomic/immutable distro, it works every time.
This is what's so great about atomic distros. Super reliable and hard to break. Just set and forget.
Fedora baybee!
Maximum hardware enablement,
Minimum game breaking bugs.
New Kernals all the time.
~~Community focused distro with no corporate interference~~
~~I can watch all of my "Linux Isos" I torrented out of the box~~
Logo is cool infinity F.
I wish there was a newbie-friendly distro that didn't use Systemd.
I can vouch for MX Linux. It supports both systemd and sysvinit, letting you choose which one you'd like to install on your machine. Daily drove it on my old laptop with the XFCE desktop and I was very happy with it.
I think that ship has sailed. Too much stuff relies on it now.
That's exactly what it is. I think most of modern computing is just severe OCD and digital hoarding.
Debian <3
I mean, if you're worried about rolling release...
