I mean, he isn't even remotely close to 300lbs of pure muscle. But yes, even with a lifetime of a perfect diet and gym routine most people will never look like this. Like is the case for so many other Hollywood actors, there are clearly steroids involved
Nah you just gotta eat a metric fuck-ton of cod. Like the Rock!
/s
Well when you're dehydrated your muscles show better
Yes, he also kicked a car with his foot, and set the airbag off.
I mean it's fiction. That part isn't half as unbelievable as the cops and feds being the good guys
Yeah Reacher is just fantasy. He eats like a pig, never has access to a shower and he is built like Mr Universe.
This comment from another post:
There’s this story that Mark Hammil tells about being on the set of Star Wars and he mentions to Harrison Ford that their hair should be wet, since it was just wet in the previous scene.
And Ford says something like, “This ain’t that kind of movie, kid. If the audience is talking about our hair, something has already gone wrong.”
The same goes for Reacher, even the books. They're great, easy and fun to read, but if you start thinking about it like that something has already gone wrong.
Even so, I have to say that the books concentrate more on him just being really tall without being thin. And trained both mentally and physically, but never just muscled.
He does have access to a shower. He stays at motels mostly and very rarely sleeps outside.
There’s no explanation for that body though as he definitely never goes to a gym.
I'll have you know that Reacher cannot help his overactive steroid gland!
Um guys come on it is simple. he lives at the gym between seasons.
The books have one or two references to him working as a labourer or other jobs between books.
Labor jobs don't make you look like that. They make you hunched over and limping and kinda fat looking. Also an alcoholic
Source: worked labor in my early years and finally decided to quit just as the hunch started to develop
Damn, I never knew Mr. Universe had all that hiding under his shirt!
He killed me with a sword. How weird is that?
I am a leaf on the wind
Always too soon.
What did they put in the water in the Reacher house?
Whey isolate
This is just a trope everywhere and it's absurd. Like Project Hail Mary. Yep, a school physics teacher is chiseled and looks like a shaggy sex teddy bear dog. Just like every other physics teacher I've met. Yep.
In the case of Project Hail Mary they have an "answer" as to why. The book directly explains it and the movie nods at it in a scene where he writes "Muscles?" on the white board, but its the coma robot, Armindo. It was meant to work their limbs and apply electrical stimulation so they wouldn't atrophy on the trip.
I know, I would prefer if actors were undisciplined fat slobs who give you the performance they feel like giving you between KFC buckets. That'd be more real
So, I was watching 'The Getaway' with Steve McQueen. That movie was made when McQueen was one of the top box office draws in the world. He takes off his shirt and, to me, he looks a little scrawny.
A while later, I'm watching a movie where the shirtless guy is supposed to be a middle-aged lawyer with a minor drug problem. Looks like he could throw McQueen through the wall.
Harrison Ford went on an intensive regime of exercise with a famous fitness trainer in order to get into peak physical condition for Temple of Doom:

A friend told me that he wanted to buy his nephew a Luke Skywalker action figure; he wanted the lad to have the same one he'd grown up playing with.
When he went to the store, the figure they had was bulked up. Looked nothing like the real Mark Hamill.
Maybe he has that mutation like some whippets.

apparently the mutation makes whippets unable to run long periods of time or have high amounts of activity, due to the amount of muscle. its actually bad for the breed, the normal whippet is athletic.
Aw. I hope they at least feel really swole, so they get something out of it
This can happen in a lot of mammals, including humans. One of the really popular "strongmen" guys, like the top one, has it.
Hobo, not vagrant.
with alot of roids and peds of course.
I find the quality of the writing to be more infuriating, but you're not wrong.

Constant walking, fasting, getting up with the sun and going to sleep at sunset... It might kill you but you'll be doing a routine whether you like it or not
