Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

It all depends if you know your limits

The fact that it's a guinea pig is an amazing choice.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 43 points 12 hours ago (6 children)

That's not how reflections work.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

Also usually they have mirrors inside the barber shop

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 12 points 5 hours ago

To be fair, that's not how guinea pigs work either.

It is in games with screen-space reflections

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

But they used the mirror tool.

It's also not how "1/2 off" cuts work, animals don't go to a barber, nor do they talk.

But the reflection being unrealistic, yes, that's where we draw the line.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 11 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Yes, that is where we draw the line, because the things you listed are all part of the joke. The reflection is not (and is almost certainly due to lack of skill because reflections can be hard).

Should we never criticise any unrealistic aspect of something as soon as it contains one deliberate unrealistic aspect? Is the coffee cup on game of thrones unproblematic because we can just as well imagine they have Starbucks in Westeros as dragons? If someone draws a comic with a talking animal, is it no longer possible to critique the anatomy in their drawing?

Or does this not make sense, do we recognise a difference between deliberate deviations from reality and accidental ones (or deviations from the established or expected reality)?

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

You say it's not relevant to the joke, but a realistic reflection wouldn't show a side-by-side depiction. The way it's portrayed here highlights the hair cut that the animal is upset about, which is key to the joke.

It might not be realistic, but I see this as "artistic license," along with the other absurd elements.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 3 points 5 hours ago

Since you can see what's happened without the reflection, I don't think a realistic reflection would hurt that prospect. In fact it might be easier (if the reflection were kept as it is, and the piggie rotated so that it would produce the reflection)

"Lack of skill" is a bit harsh… the artist used the "mirror" tool as a time saving measure. Doing anything else would require redrawing most of the creature in a new pose, and I don't really feel like it's necessary for this comic

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 2 points 4 hours ago

It is a bit harsh but I don't think it's wrong. The more skillful artist would know not to use the mirror tool. If they wanted to save time, they could have flipped the other guinea pig drawing they've done (the one of it heading into the shop) and used that for the guinea pig looking into the glass. (The interior would need to be redone still, but not the outline, legs and ear)

The cartoonist draws the line. I'm just a dog on the internet.

This mf on fire today

You would eventually get down to the last hair, and then have a 50% chance to remove it with each subsequent haircut. This is his how homeopathic solutions can end up with literally no β€œactive ingredient”, or only a small chance of containing a single molecule of it.

[–] lena@gregtech.eu 3 points 6 hours ago

The barber will cut the last hair in half

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 14 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

No, they'd just keep cutting the hair in half

[–] saigot@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Eventually you'd get down to one hair cell, if that is cut in half it is no longer hair.

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 3 points 1 hour ago

You wouldn't split an atom!

Was my first thought too, the final panel pull back to show the name.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 5 points 10 hours ago

So this is how they make skinny pigs

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 6 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

After six or seven times it won’t matter.

For a minute there I thought the Unicode Consortium did an extremely stupid decision, don't worry guys, it's 3 characters.

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

(I'm missing that ref, already seen several time, can someone explain me 😒)

[–] Miner_Fabs@lemmy.world 1 points 5 minutes ago

67 came from a song lyric, then a kid made a tiktok where he frantically said "six seveeen!! six seveeen!!" to the camera while doing a gesture with his hands. and because kids love pattern recognition, when they see the number it's easy to point it out and do the gesture. and so the meme spread.

the humor comes from it being nonsensical; the joke is on anyone who's either tired of it, or never found it funny at all, so i don't really see it going away anytime soon.

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Nah, keep your mental health and forget this brainrot. XD

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Oh. 67. I didn't even get the reference.

23 skidoo.

All depends on if he's a mathematician or a physicist.
