King Harald was going to the opening of the Johan Sverdrup oil field, until people pointed out that celebrating profiting by causing a mass-extinction probably isn't that great.

Fuck off death. No one likes to hear your damn excuses. Finish the job you started like an adult. I cannot be plainer. While we are at it, return Dolly and Tim, or else.

[–] Craccoon@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Damnit, the wrong guy died. I guess there's always next time.

[–] Squirrelknight@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

80 something year old head of state dies

It isn't Trump

Keep trying, Universe. You'll get there eventually.

[–] BaraCoded@literature.cafe 11 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Oh no! A royalty died!

Anyway...

[–] diocesegoldmine@sh.itjust.works 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

lmfao of course treating the upper class leeches the way they treat us gets downvoted.

Just for information for you and everyone else. This king is very special. He is called by the Norwegians grandpa, they feel very close to him. So I assume that is the reason for the down votes. I don't think they feel the same for the rest of the Royal family, Harald is just very special for all of the Norwegians. I have heard he was a very kind and compassionate king. But it is better to ask a Norwegian about it.

[–] GeirGrusom@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

Yes, most Norwegians loved the guy regardless of what they think about the monarchy.

[–] Craccoon@lemmy.world 0 points 16 hours ago

Exactly. Fuck em.

[–] oyzmo@piefed.social 6 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

He was a wise and kind king. Loved by his people. The world is a bitt less without him. 😢

He was though. His new years speeches centered around all Norwegians, even if they came from other nations and have shared nationality.

There was a botched terrorist attack in a Mosque in Oslo. Two old Afghani prevented a lunatic from performing a mass shooting. Afterwards the king awarded them medals of honour.

He was known as the immigrant king, the refugee king, who fled the nazis and came back to serve until his dying day.

And also: thank GOD we had such a leader in Norway and that we weren't stuck with fucking liberals and conservatives. We would have been soooo fucked if it was just those troglodytes, which is funny, because liberals and conservatives are two old monastic European families - two sides of the same coin really - who continue to fuck over the west to this day.

He will be sorely missed and served in a way no politician really could. But ofc, redditors gonna reddit - even on lemmy.

I'm not sure which it was, but I know that Ragnhilde did visit.

[–] deacon@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

So many more questions now.

[–] m0darn@lemmy.ca 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

I probably don't have many more answers, but I saw a picture of Princess Ragnhilde visiting, oh Astrid visited too.

During ww2 her mother (my wife's great granny) had a job as a secretary or office assistant or something at the Royal Norwegian Air Force base in exile in Toronto. In preparation for the royal Christmas visit great granny was tasked with buying a dress to be given as Christmas present to the princess. I guess she took it home to wrap it, and my wife's grandmother saw it and was incensed that her mom had bought some stranger a nicer gift than her.
