A sense of pride and accomplishment

Trump gets a boner to rape and malest with

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 hours ago

Even less credibility internationally.

[–] nullify3112@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

A distraction

[–] nanometer1625@thelemmy.club 4 points 11 hours ago

International disdain.

[–] chillpanzee@lemmy.ml 33 points 20 hours ago

Americans get nothing. The president gets another distraction from whatever batch of crimes he's committing today.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 20 points 19 hours ago

A bunch of stupid headlines to block the stupider headlines from view

[–] godsammitdam@lemmy.zip 15 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

A distraction from things that matter.

Btw, what happened to those Epstein Files? The ones that didn't get released like the law said they had to be? What's the point of laws again?

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 1 points 11 hours ago

What’s the point of laws again?

For dumpy? Nothing.

[–] deathbird@mander.xyz 1 points 12 hours ago

Um... So by further embarassing ourselves on the international stage, showing ourselves to be erratic and irrational, we discourage international brain drain and future "free trade" agreements, reducing our outsized influence on the world, and thereby encouraging multipolarity, which in the the long term will probably benefit all of humanity, of which we are a part.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

Bunch of bots on twitter circle jerking themselves into a frothing fury guffawing how great Trump is.

Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho?

[–] chillpanzee@lemmy.ml 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

His state of the union was more intelligible and inspiring.

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 2 points 11 hours ago

And Camacho learnt from his mistakes. Unlike a certain other "president"...

[–] FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world 71 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We don't get anything. DJT signed this executive order on about the same day that a report came out saying the USA's defense missiles in Europe are critically low and unable to repel a serious Russian attack because the missiles have been moved to the middle east and/or used against Iran.

Now we're talking about Lake Ontario instead of our inability to defend our European interests and positions.

It was always intended to wag the dog.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Canada should invade and claim Lake Ontario. The US can't defend against it.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 91 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What do Americans gain by changing the name of Lake Ontario?

International ridicule.

[–] erusuoyera@sh.itjust.works 36 points 1 day ago (3 children)
[–] FudgyMcTubbs@lemmy.world 26 points 1 day ago

Oooo I know this one.... Superior, Huron, America, Michigan, and Erie.

Americans didn't. Just one douche bag

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 day ago

It's just culture war bullshit. Trump gets to distinguish himself from other politicians and pretend he's doing something for the nationalists without actually spending any money or improving their lives in any way. It also means people talk about this instead of the Iran War or the Epstein files or the masked thugs raiding workplaces and hunting down minorities.

Keep an eye out for the other side of this which will be establishment politicians running on "restoring sanity" by changing it back to Lake Ontario, because they don't want to run on abolishing ICE or anything that actually matters.

[–] derry@midwest.social 11 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Distraction. From what, I couldn't say exactly. Actually, yes I can. High prices, family members being killed in foreign conflicts, political grifting, Epstein files...

[–] PetteriPano@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

I heard that there's a picture of Orange man's willie in the Epstein files, but it wasn't released because it was labelled as CP. Because it was so tiny.

It's just another loyalty test thing so the wannabe emperor can quickly and easily determine who's openly on his side.

[–] Trebuchet@europe.pub 43 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He's only doing it to elicit anger. He's just a petty little bully. While it might distract from the Epstein files or the domestic policy dumpster fire, i don't think he's doing it for any other reason than it amuses him to piss people off.

[–] Soulphite@reddthat.com 18 points 1 day ago

And its base of idiots LOVE it... they think it is a strong capable leader that gets shit done... meanwhile they're paying a considerable amount more for everything than they were mearly 2.5 years ago and do not see any correlation about WHO caused this mess. They say "ah we gotta take the hit for a little while till he makes things better!"

They don't understand their lives were better economically before the pedophile, but they couldn't be openly racist and misogynistic. That's the part they love.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

It's just Trump trying to assert domince.

[–] Sirius006@sh.itjust.works 4 points 19 hours ago

He can't T-pose because he would lose balance, so he tries to assert dominance by other means.

[–] weps@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago

The American people don't gain anything.

The American regime is "flooding the zone".

[–] plyth@feddit.org 35 points 1 day ago
[–] Balldowern@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Noting at all.

Government =/= people

[–] Lettuceeatlettuce@lemmy.ml 3 points 19 hours ago

The same thing they gain from investing in Leprechaun gold mining companies.

10 minutes of nothing important being destroyed.

A reputation for being untrustworthy, and pushing economic activity away from their economy.

[–] el_pinguino@lemmy.ml 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I'm into it.

If he can throw symbolic red meat to his base without actually hurting anyone, he should do more of that. Rename the whole damn country dumbfuckistan. I don't care.

[–] lefaucet@slrpnk.net 1 points 13 hours ago

Did you know it costs millions of dollars for our educational system to change maps to make sure every reprint of the billions of maps it provides to our kids conforms to the federal guidelines?

Same for our every government organization. This bullshit is intended to divide the country over inconsequential bullshit and bankrupt the government itself.

The billionaires intentionally push for bullshit so they can say the system is broken. This is just another exhibit of that fact

[–] TallonMetroid@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

It's not about Americans at all. This is entirely about the rapist-in-chief's pwecious fee-fees.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (5 children)

They didn't change it. Only usa recognizes it as such. That's like me saying your name is now Tony. Doesn't make it true. Unless your name actually is Tony, I suppose...

[–] dropdrip@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

That's strange. Everyone's always called me Tony. I don't know when it started... from a very young age at least; my parents always called me Tony. So I just started calling myself that too. It's on all my gov. documents: "Tony". Deep down I've always know it was a lie though. My real name's Sony. Why won't people call me my true name? My name's not actually Tony, even though that's what everyone calls me, it's actually Sony, but no one will use that name. They still continue to call me Tony. It's almost like... you never get to choose your name. It's just given to you and you're stuck with it, regardless of how you might feel about it.

Not even most of US accept it as such.

Besides the distraction, it's a weak claim to the water within for the inevitable water wars.

Actual virtue signaling. Unlike you know... whenever the right tries to call something out as virtue signaling.

A sense of pride and accomplishment?

[–] daivika_sareeram@lemmy.ml 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

πŸ’” For renaming something? This is the worst "pride and accomplishment" I've heard of. This doesn't make me happy at all. My school is not getting enough funding because it's not white enough and the money is going to war criminals and pedos trying to cover their crimes.

[–] Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml 1 points 16 hours ago

It's a reference to an infamous moment of internet history where someone similarly misapplied this concept. Give it a google, at least the 1 second mild chuckle can be your consolation prize while the world burns.
