A good person thst can do, bad things

No. I'm barely even a functional organism for about 90% of the day.

(But hey, I'm not a politician or a vacuous online personality, so I've got that going for me)

God, no. But I’ve been much worse.

I don't really think that there are good people. I don't mean it as cynical as it sounds. I KNOW there are bad people. I don't think I'm one of those.

I know I am but I mess up sometimes. I always try to do the right thing. To a fault where my destruction is all self inflicted.

On one hand I strive to live a fundamentally “good” life. I have a work ethic, I love and take good care of my cat, I do my level best to be a good dad for my kid, and I try to be a good neighbor. I take care of my physical and mental health. I keep a tidy house and my car in good working order.

On the other hand, well, let’s just say I have done things. Vile things. Criminal things. I have ruined lives and I have destroyed other peoples relationships. I have partaken in acts of debauchery that would make Caligula blush. And here’s the kicker: Not only do I not regret those deeds, but in some cases I revel in them. And I might not be done.

I feel like I do good things just because they make people like me. Idk.

Overall yeah, I’m a pretty good person. I care about others, I give my time and money to those less fortunate, I try to be kind, non judgmental and helpful to everyone not just people I like. I’ve struggled a lot in my life mentally and physically, I grew up ugly and disabled and as cliche as it is to say it, it’s made me a better person.

Ehh kinda gave up on good and evil. It's better to say pro/anti social. Im learning to be more social.

But I'd do more "good things" than most people but I'd still say I have a lot more that I can do, and I could be more proactive in general.

It's like you can think your a good person for picking up other people trash, but then realized that people dump carbon dioxide into the air and don't do anything about it.

It's genuinely concerning how many people are saying here that they don't consider themselves as good people.

When I was in my early 20s I would have said yes without a doubt.

Now, a TBI turned me into a manipulative being lusting for satisfaction never to be found without dropping personality continuity from when I genuinely was better. I go to weekly therapy, am heavily medicated, and try not to step on anyone's toes anymore. I have fallen so far there's not many toes around to step on anymore.

I'll help the elderly neighbors out with their potlucks, moving furniture, and bringing in groceries. I'll stand up and defend LGBT rights and groups otherwise disparaged. I'll befriend those who might be misunderstood like myself and give them company when others might shun them.

All of this serves me though, and being a "good person" was not something that took this much active effort to think about before developing these mental/personality disorders from the head injury.

I think I've met a handful of "good" people in my life. I'm not one of them.

I’ve stopped caring. The worst people in my country decide everything for the rest of us. At this point I don’t care about being good, I just want to exert my will and trod them into the dirt at every opportunity

I hope yes but I do think this is something others have to label you 1st

I have at times in my life acted in horrible ways and done things which upset others, or were just horribly dickish things to do.

But when I lie in bed at night my thoughts are sometimes about how I regret those things, and don't want to be like that to anyone again.

I hope that counts for something.

I don't know, and it just feels wrong to say myself that I am (feels like this meme).

I feel like I'm a good person. My anxiety tells me I'm not and people hate me though so there's that.

Leonard Cohen's last song released days before he died was called "You Want It Darker." One of the verses is:

"They're lining up the prisoners and the guards are taking aim, I struggled with some demons, they were middle class and tame, I didn't know I had permission to murder and to maim, You want it darker, we kill the flame."

Anyway, that's me, in the middle class. I could be better, but however bad I am, I'm still on the tame level.

I make it easy for someone to argue that I am.

But I'm also difficult and hard to connect with.

No, but i try.

My intentions are to promote human flourishing, and I try to follow my intentions. If I was talking about someone else, I would unequivocally qualify that as being a good person. So by transitive purposes I just have to qualify myself as one.

I feel like I'm an asshole 99% of the time, but that could be my anxiety and disgustingly low self worth talking. Yes I see a therapist about both and other things.

I guess it ultimately depends on how you define good

Well I hate a bunch of people I've never even met and the list of people I wish death on seems to grow longer every day, but also I feel like those people deserve it. So maybe, I guess?

Sometimes I am, but I've got blind spots like everyone else.

Not really. Most of the things that I do are very neutral, and there are a few things that I do that are pretty awful, although of limited scope in harms. I'm mostly nice to people, I try to help where I can, but these aren't really exemplary things, these are just part of living in a society.

What qualifies as good? Mother Theresa was seen as "good". May she rest in piss.

No. Not gonna pretend to be. I can be an asshole at times.

I generally try to do more good than bad, and I try not to hurt anyone. But good people probably don't hope that the US president and most of the billionaires stop breathing...
