World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Funded Hamas. Knew about attacks in advance. Delayed response to attacks. Used the Hannibal Directive and sent in Apache helicopters to murder as many as possible. Just normal everyday Israeli behaviour.
I may be misremembering, but according to YouTube they (in Netanyahus government) had referred to Oct 7 as "the miracle" as it gave them the pretext for their actions in response . This was just before the genocide allegations started gaining prominence.
Was the warning "everything is going according the plan, sir"?
This is only surprising if you didn't know Netanyahu has been funding Hamas for decades...
But reporting in the New York Times has revealed that Netanyahu's government was more hands-on about helping Hamas: they helped a Qatari diplomat bring suitcases of cash into Gaza, indirectly boosting the militant organization, according to the report.
The calculus — the Times reported on Sunday, citing Israeli officials, Netanyahu's critics, and the man's own reported statements — was to keep Hamas strong enough to counteract the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, allowing Netanyahu to avoid a two-state peace solution and keep both sides weak.
He didn't just let them attack, he's the reason Hamas continued to exist in the first place. They don't want to end Hamas, they want to use Hamas as an excuse to genocide Palestinians.
Sounds kinda familiar to a September event. Maybe he liked the ultimate outcome there.
Sucks that the Humperdinck strategy works IRL
"That's an absolute lie!"
Oh ok then. Sorry to bother you Mr War Criminal, as you were.
Paywall
The archive link I posted gets you past the paywall.
Ah, cool. Thanks. I wanted to see if it was the same warning as this one that they also ignored
Not saying he isn't a douche, but I do wonder with this and reports pre 9/11 to W, how many such warnings do they get regularly? If they get a bunch, it's not really fair to go back and cherry pick the ones that happened to play out. I know in both cases there's weird looking stuff where resources were moved away just before - but once again, how often do such shifts happen normally? Are we just picking stuff out of the noise? I really don't know, and I doubt anyone here does.
A handful of the Israeli soldiers who were on duty protecting the wall have been saying for over a year that they got conflicting orders that morning, how they were told to stand down, and of course it all then unfolded as it did.
Some of the soldiers were haunted by this and spoke out; I saw an interview involving one of those soldiers (in Hebrew, subbed in English) and it was undeniably real, just going by this guy struggling to get through talking about it. If I can find a link for it I'll post it.
But no, this wasn't just any regular morning. They do get regular breach warnings on the wall, but they have a protocol for that, which is one of the things these soldiers explained in the interview. They get a barrier notification or some other indication of breach, they notify their immediate superior, and that person kicks it up the chain while they go out to take a physical look at it. In this particular case, these soldiers were directly ordered not to go out before any notification was received. In his own words, he was serving in the Gaza area, and did not hesitate to respond to ANY sign that there was a breach. "For every little thing we'd jump the fence, every little thing."
But that morning they got the order not to do so. About an hour after this order was passed down is when the killing started. This is why he is haunted. He genuinely feels like they could have stopped it, or at least slowed it down, and were prevented from doing so. He also personally lost a leg that day, and many of his friends.
EDITED TO ADD: I looked in my history and found the article. It's not just an interview but has footage of the soldier testifying before the Knesset, Israel's congress. The video is on X embedded in the article, and it includes the audio recording of the orders his unit were given that morning to stand down an hour BEFORE any breach notifications were received.
Geesh. Did the Knesset follow up on where the orders came from? I guess they won't report that publicly tho.
I'm sure they tried, and there has been a slow but steady drip of confirming information all along, like the headline today, confirming what many already know but just haven't been able to prove yet.
But given as the order verifiably came from within the soldier's command structure, and it took a couple of years just for the audio of it to leak, I am certain all those responsible are doing everything they can to obfuscate and deny.
TL;DR: It'll come out, just like the Epstein shit here in the US, but it's being similarly fought and blocked and misdirected and covered up every step of the way.
