Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I really hope that if there's an afterlife, it isn't anything like in the bible. It sounds like pure torture.

I would prefer the afterlife to be something like a super-advanced future civilization scanning people's minds from the past and putting them in a simulation modeled after how The Good Place was after they fixed it in the show.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

It would be nice if you had some time to reflect and maybe explore from your current persona, followed by an eventual memory wipe so you can start over again. Otherwise I'd expect it to get pretty dull eventually.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Or check this out: whatever's in the afterlife is so much better than anything ever was in the life, and you will not have the feeling of nostalgia, because that's a human thing and you don't need that garbage.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I’m not sure if I hope it’s the same thing as you desire, but being in a God-induced haze of peace (like being benzo’d out or something) with nothing to do or look froward to sounds hellish. If you no longer have need of that, you’re stripped of β€œyou”, and that sounds even worse.

[–] MithranArkanere@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago

I just want more time to finish my Steam backlog.

[–] director@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

What could be a better afterlife than an infinitely configurable "video" game?

[–] iamericandre@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

Bruh if I can’t smoke weed and play video games all day wtf is the point of heaven

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 7 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (1 children)

You get to heaven then some homicidal maniac comes in and ruins everyone's nice peaceful time with his Head Explodey powers.

[–] buran@lemmy.today 4 points 11 hours ago

Nny mentioned.

[–] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 6 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I love the Talking Heads song, Heaven, which just describes Heaven as the most boring place anyone could possibly be at cause everything being completely perfect all the time is boring and uninteresting.

[–] cdf12345@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

It's hard to imagine

That nothing at all

Could be so exciting

Could be so much fun

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 10 points 15 hours ago

But he already has a halo!

[–] synapse1278@lemmy.world 9 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

If there is a frozen yogurt stand, you know this isn't the good place.

[–] cdf12345@lemmy.zip 3 points 7 hours ago

β€œOh sure, but I’ve come to really like frozen yogurt, there’s something so human about taking something and ruining it a little so you can have more of it.”

[–] thiscat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Heaven is supposed to be all good if someone isn't enjoying their existence there then it's not heaven

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 38 points 22 hours ago (1 children)
[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 1 points 13 hours ago

Vore in heaven confirmed?

[–] kboos1@lemmy.world 108 points 1 day ago (25 children)

I've always wondered about the eternal bliss part of heaven. It always seems very vague. So on earth you're not supposed to enjoy life's pleasures or joys "too much" because in heaven you can't enjoy it "too much", like what's the goal. Is it just dangle temptation in front of you as a test, so you don't go to hell. So does that mean you can be a sinner in heaven because you showed restraint on earth? Does that mean you get in because you proved that you are ok with living a pious life but now there is no temptation and no free will? Either way it sounds like physical torture in hell or mental torture in heaven, I'm a bit confused. I'm willing to listen, hell seems pretty specific but heaven is pretty vague.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago

Really the Bible doesn't say very much about hell.

Sometimes a character will be thrown into a pit of fire or similar but it's never claimed its for everyone.

Really all it says it's you'll be "without God". Generally, it seems like non-Christians just die but Christians get a second afterlife - unless of course they ate shellfish.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 7 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Literaly it's all about God. You just spend forever praising him, and apparently don't care about anything else.

This is better than searing hot lava forever I suppose.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

No interest in spending eternity praising and worshiping a vengeful, spiteful, narcissistic god. Might be his idea of heaven, but it's not mine. Give me the void.

Also, the only account we have of Hell is the Bible, and I wouldn't call that an unbiased source. Why would the Devil torture his bois? It doesn't make any sense.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 1 points 7 hours ago

Erm, either the devil was some good creature that rebelled and got slandered, or more likely: other narcissist who got cuckolded, and is now playing the victim.

But overall, I pick believing in action, rather than spirits.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 7 points 13 hours ago

I dunno man, the lava seems pretty bad, but then again... being a worship zombie ... sounds like some kinda parasitic horror thing out of Rick and Morty.

There's a reason that critical thinking and structured religion are incompatible.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 7 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

What if you worship the god of critical thinking and pray by thinking critically?

In Judaism, Satan is basically a lawyer guy that Elohim hires to question him and call him on his bullshit. That may explain why Jewish people place a lot of importance on having a nice argument.

The ancient Greek philosphers were also very fond of critical thinking and they were religious. The Athenians revered Athena especially, the goddess of wisdom. So it was considered virtuous to spend your days in thought and debate.

Like, I get that your experience is with Christianity, which is not a very thought-heavy religion. But I find it difficult to believe that you've studied a representative sample of the world's religions. I think you're just repeating a trope you read online, that religious people are stupid, without thinking critically about it.

[–] moendopi@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

I came up with an idea of a deity, The Forbidden God, who hates worship. You worship them and they smite you. It/he/she values critical thinking and logic. You don't have to be right, but blind faith and grovelling, smite. I've yet to incorporate them into some kind of short story. One day.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

What if you worship the god of critical thinking

If your definition of "god" is something you revere, then sure, go have some gods. Have a bunch. It's great to value things like knowledge and thought and kindness.

If your definition of god includes some supernatural power, then I'll need some evidence.

Because as soon as you start thinking critically you don't need gods.

There is a lot in old religions, Christianity included, where the rewards were obviously written for the desires of the people at the time. It would be very different if heavenly rewards were written with today's mindset.

Remember reading the web series β€œthe salvation war”, (where god announces armageddon but turns out modern weaponry altered the scales somewhat). Turns out heaven was only heaven for Middle Ages peasants, a lack of hunger or illness, but you still have to farm and go to church etc. the army gets there and just thinks β€œwow what a shithole”.

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 4 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Why do you have to farm if there is no hunger?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

because there is no blight.

[–] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

iirc there's actually a list somewhere of what the armies of Armageddon are meant to be like and its a few hundred thousand horseman and a few kaiju sized demons more or less. They'd definitely do some damage but modern militaries would shred them in pretty short order.
