Finished Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition !

It took almost 100 hours, but finished the game. Still have some side content left, mostly requiring levels in late 40s or above, not sure I'll clear that or not though.

I have been sharing my feeling throughout so not much to add here. As I mentioned last week, Act 1 and 2 of Chapter 13 felt a bit of a filler, but I enjoyed the final act, and the ending. Typical weird Xenoblade stuff where I don't understand half the stuff.

Overall, even though I have a few complaints, and it's not my favourite Xenoblade, I enjoyed the game, and can't wait for Monolith's new game.

Played more Marvel's Midnight Suns. Completed Part 1 of the game. From what I gather there are 3 total parts, with 1st being the longest and 3rd being shortest. Super hero drama continues, with evil getting stronger and heroes facing setbacks after setbacks, I wonder if things will start improving now or we would have to wait till Part 3 for that.

On Switch, I am now waiting for Donkey Kong Banaza, so started couple of smaller(ish) games.

The Hong Kong Massacre, top-down like Hotline Miami but guns instead of melee weapon. You can roll to evade and slow down the time. It has very John-Woo vibe.

I am using slow-motion excessively, only way I can survive and clear the level. Each level has 3 challenges. Clear within specific time, clear without using slow-motion and clear without missing a single shot. Suffice to say I haven' come even near completing any single challenge.

The stars you get for completing level (1 star for completing level, +1 star for each challenge you complete) can be used to upgrade your guns. You can pickup any dropped gun and I believe upgrades apply to them too.

Levels are divided in days, with each day having about 7 levels, I am at the last day now, will hopefully finish it in few days.

Salt and Sanctuary: Got stuck on a particular Hong Kong Massacre level, so took a break and started Salt and Sactuary. It's not very difficult, as far as souls-like goes, but not very easy either. Some starting enemies can be button mashed, but there are many enemies where you have to be careful about how you fight, same with bosses. They aren't overly difficult (have only beaten first 5, there are 23 total, I think, if including optional bosses), but you do have to be deliberate and learn the pattern.

There's a big skill tree, but most of it centers around upgrading your classes so that you can wield better equipment, and upgrading your stats like str or dex etc. whatever you want to go with.

Visuals are pretty washed-out and grayish look, which can look good certain times, but when playing at night with low brightness (on Switch) I couldn't even see some of the enemies or traps.

That's pretty much it from my side.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

In my case I finished Pokemon Violet and now moved to Arceus, also as side games I play Mario Kart World, Animal Crossing NH and some Splatoon 3.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

My family got renewed interest in Animal Crossing recently too. Can't wait for the next one.

Mario kart world.

I might take the time to reconnect with zelda botw or totk now that my switch 2 arrived.

sad that I cannot yet connect to gamechat yet, silly countries restrictions.

How are you liking Mario Kart World? People are kind of divided on it.

[–] brunacho@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 2 hours ago

I like it. I can see a point in the critics I read, but i find it enjoyable and fun. I don't take it very seriously though.

How bad gamechat is region locked?

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

You need to save and verify your phone number, for that you have to choose your country. So, if your country is not in the list, you can't save and verify your number and can't use gamechat.

I don't know how many countries are missing, but its probably the ones where Nintendo doesn't have an official presence / eshop.

[–] brunacho@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 2 hours ago

Exactly. You can input a country with eshop in your Nintendo account and enjoy mostly anything with no problems but since gamechat needs phone number it's not as easy.

Since I didn't really have time to play D&D right now, I finally decided it was time to dig into Baldur's Gate, so I'm continuing my foray through that. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Oh, and to be clear, in talking about Baldur's Gate 1: Enhanced Edition.

Nice. Love the old BG games, and Icewind Dale. Haven't touched them in over a decade though, so no idea how they hold up now.

Last weekend I finally played Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind in local co-op and we finished it. It was really good, the different gameplay stages make it very fun. From the modern beat em ups, it's the one that's made me feel the most like I was playing Super Nintendo in the 90's. Hope Digital Eclipse keeps making their own games in parallel with the compilations of retro stuff, I love all of it 😁

I got all the shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and beat Ganondorf. The final battle was pretty spectacular, I liked it. I don't know if I'll be back to Hyrule any time soon, I feel like I've neglected my other games, but there's side stuff I can still have fun with.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is on my wishlist, but I never watched Power Rangers when I was a kid, so don't really have that nostalgia factor. Hope the game is good enough to stand on it's own.

Congratulations on completing TotK!

Glad you enjoyed Xenoblade X! As you said yourself in the other thread, I'm probably just salty thanks to years of theories - all of which existed outside any other Xeno canon, I didn't knew better when I first palyed the game.

Anyway, I went deeper into Star Ocean Second Story R. Thus far, I can only recommend it. The games throws so many options at you, it's just a delight to try and break the game. As per usual, I started by stacking tons of EXP multipliers. This weekend, I'll dive ibto item creation.

The game has a lot of interesting things you don't see often within games. Some whacky, some dark. I'll list one of each below, they are story spoilers, but I don't mention names or anything.

Story stuff

  • You can get a guy that's seemingly permanently merged with a monster after trying to kill it on screen.
  • In a moment of total tonal whiplash, a whole town gets destroyed while you're there. People you just talked to are even mentioned to have died.

Yeah, after 10 years of cliffhanger, pretty much anything they do wouldn't have compared to theories people had.

For my next RPG I am looking for more of a western RPG, maybe something like Risen. Well, have other games to play first.

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can highly recommend Risen! I'm still sad the studio closed down.

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I haven't played many of their games, but loved what I have played. Looking forward to Gothic 1 remake.

Finished Atelier Yumia's Falbra Thicket DLC!

A free DLC map was added to the game and I figured exploring it would be a good way to spend a couple hours. It also includes a short and cute storyline.

Finished Ever 17: The Out of Infinity (part of the Ever 17/Never 7 Double Pack)!

This one was great. I'm extremely impressed on how much it improves over its predecessor, feels like they are ten years apart instead of two.

It has some issues - pacing is slow, there's some repetitiveness in the middle of the routes, epilogue drags too much explaining everything in detail - but is still a game I can recommend for anyone who likes sci-fi VNs.

There's some really clever usage of the media, something that carries to later Uchikoshi games (Zero Escape and AI series), a strong cast, interesting mysteries that will have you thinking very hard trying to figure out what's going on, and good sci-fi elements.

I finished Ever 17 yesterday night right before sleeping, so I still have to decide what I'm going to play next. Likely continue going through the VN backlog.

I have AI: The Somnium Files, may start that on Switch 1 after I have finished HK Massacre / Salt & Sanctuary. Not a pure VN, but close enough for me.

[–] Phelpssan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The first AI is great, and the second is still solid.

I have the third game as a high priority, will get it as soon as physical copies get here (which unfortunately is taking quite a while).

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, it was the release of the third game that pushed me to finally get the first one 😀
