"Cool" is eternally cool.

67 might still get ironic reactions like millennials do for 69.

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 12 points 17 hours ago

I do like the joke of being able to do cross generational references with "68 +- 1".

[–] DaGeek247@fedia.io 3 points 14 hours ago

This is my guess too. I personally knew of some examples dating back to the 70s using it, but apparently 'coolness' as a term has been around since at least the 15th century.

I just hope crashed out goes back to meaning going to sleep after an all-nighter.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 15 points 17 hours ago

This is easy. All you have to do is hang out with black people. What they're saying now is what white people will adopt in 10 years. Black people will be forced to adopt new slang, and the cycle continues.

Black people are not biological poets. It's just that they live in the position to easily see mainstream culture for what it really is because it's not for them. They also understand white culture through media immersion.

Black people have an advantage over culture and language because they must be bilingual to get by.

"FUCK OFF" is timeless.

[–] kbal@fedia.io 14 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

I bet people will still be saying "streets ahead"

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Hadn't heard that one yet. How's it used?

[–] kindnesskills@literature.cafe 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

If you haven't heard of it you're streets behind, buddy.

(Check out the show Community.)

Nah, if I have to watch TV to learn the lingo, I'll go ahead and fall behind on that one.

[–] mappe@moplemmy.fyi 5 points 17 hours ago

Well it IS verbal wildfire.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

I could see "rizz" having some staying power. Longer than Ohio and skibidi anyway.

[–] shyguyblue@lemmy.world 9 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Are skibidi and Ohio'ing even a thing now?

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 6 points 17 hours ago

With under 10 yo, yes. Not sure about ohioing though.

[–] toxicbubble@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

modern slang is just black slang from a decade ago, recycle and repeat

I think skibidi will still be a thing as it existed long before this.

Remember "SKIBIDI BOP MM DA DA" from long ago? I do. I think this codified it more than anything.

67 I am mixed on but lean toward it still existing long in the future.

As for other zoomer and alpha slang? I feel "type shit" is gonna survive, "gigachad" will survive, and things like "ate" and "left no crumbs" and "sigma" will not.

Now let us wait 10 years to see how I am wrong about all of this as I usually tend to be bad at predicting things.

[–] kibblebits@quokk.au 3 points 17 hours ago

I’ve never heard that.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

IMO the big part of surviving is recognizability. An inside joke or something that requires more than surface level understanding (Which 67 falls into even if that inside joke is that it doesnt mean much of anything.) isn't going to make the cut.

With that in mind, "Type shit" deffo makes sense, since it exists as practically a interjection that just confirms you're listening, like "yup".
