I love the end of the plug detail, easy to miss.
Curious, though, that appears to be a 2 prong plug almost like a north American power outlet. Do/did some countries use that design for telephone cords? I've never actually considered that phone cords might be different in other countries, but it makes sense

Fascinating! I worked for a phone company for a while, and it honestly just never occured to me that there would be variation in phone jacks like there is in electrical plugs.
Four prong square outlet for a time in US.
I found out about those as a kid when we moved into a house that had them still, and when I asked my mom she got a kick out of getting to teach me something. Haha. She'd had those as a kid. And then when I worked for the telephone company, I found out there are a surprising amount of older homes that never had them updated
But it just never occured to me there would be regional variation in phone jacks like there is with electrical plugs.
There was actually a post on here the other day with an an old phone outlet from the dark ages. Link if you're curious. Apparently we had them in the US too.

I did some googling, but I didn't find much info other than everyone seemed to have different standards back then (this would've been the 1960s/1970s).

It was not long after this that the narrator started to think that ~~Stanley~~ Jucika wasn't actually Jucika.
The phone turned 90 degrees off from what I think it should be bothers me. It would be on the table facing away from the wall, normally, I would think.
The rest of the setup for the gag makes sense, but that detail serves no purpose in the gag.
The artist just had experience with drawing phones in this particular orientation :)
Maybe there's a desk just out of frame, and when she's sitting at the desk, it's facing her.
From a pure practicality-for-the-comic standpoint, having it oriented the way it does lets us clearly see the cord from the handset leading to the phone - not that that's super important, but it maybe helps with clarity?
what i imagine, and isn't shown in any of the panels, is that the little table with the phone on it is actually next to and 'faces' a comfy upholstered chair sitting in the corner of the bedroom.

The phone being turned. English is hard to parse.
For anybody who isn't familiar with land lines, if you pull the phone cord out of the wall before answering, you should just be able to plug the phone back into the wall and still answer it if the person who called you decides to keep waiting. They wouldn't notice the difference. It would just continue ringing for them. And if you called somebody after they went to sleep, you'd probably be prepared to wait a while. A lot of people didn't have phones in their bedrooms, so it would take them a while to answer. (Kids usually wanted phones in their bedrooms. Adults seemed to want the phone in the kitchen area.)
Conversely, my memory is that if you were to answer the call first, and then accidentally pull the cord out of the wall, the call will get disconnected. This is because answering the phone completes an electric circuit, which is how the phone company knows it's answered, and hanging up breaks that circuit, which is what would also happen if you pulled the cord out of the wall.
Way back, in the UK, the call didn't drop if the answering party hung up. The caller got a tone to tell them the other party had disconnected or hung up, but if the answering party picked up (or reconnected) again, the call would continue.
I think they changed it because fraudsters were using it. They'd call someone, claim to be the bank, and tell the person to call their branch as a security measure. The fraudster would then play the disconnected sound until the victim hung up, then they'd play the dial tone, and wait for the victim to pick up and dial their branch number. The fraudster could then act like the brank again, and persuade the victim to give them their secure details, as they were obviously talking to the bank.
