Once again proving piracy is always the best option.
Seriously. I'm letting my crunchy roll subscription expire because they constantly log me out and lately the content won't play in Firefox on Linux.
You know what always works and never has issues? Anime pirate sites with an ad blocker. Sometimes the subtitles are better as well.
I canceled mine for this log out issue too not to mention the fact its choices are getting worse. And I’ve gotten so old, I didn’t even know there were anime pirate sites with subtitles lol. Really?
Animetake and anitaku ( use search engine of your choice to find specifics ) among others but you'll def want to be using an Adblock etc

I pay extra for no ads. If you put ads in the ad free tier, I'll find alternative methods to watch ad free.
Local media player does ad free for me 🙂

nothing works when MBA CEOs think that is reasonable or achievable to grow at least 20% year over year forever.

You aleady can't stream disney+ content to a PC in 4k legally and now ads are mandatory. I wonder why people pirate?
Sometimes I can't tell if these decisions are greed, or just rich people trying to make the world a more miserable place.
There's going to be massive 'attempts' to crack down on piracy soon, because in this economy, a lot of people are going to just stop putting up with this (and when I say a lot, I don't even mean close to the majority,but even optimistically 5% of people dropping this stuff would be huge).

it's greed. all greed. gotta keep the numbers going up. they've already sucked-up all the interested viewers so significant subscriber gains are out.. only ways that are left is to shed content (which they've done--just flat out delete their own shit and not even shop it around) and raise rates like they do whenever their cfo takes a dump.
The problem is that streaming cannot be profitable at scale. Not for a company that considers it a delivery channel instead of its own branch of tech, marketing, etc.
And once you can't offset the expenses with the constant increase of user numbers... this happens.

i think cracking down on privacy is already in the works, but hasnt fully formalized by the gop yet. they will probably try to sneak it intoa bill when nobody paying attention.

Picked the plan I did because it was no ads and my kids like some of the shows. Lol. I will tell them they have 3 weeks so get watching. These streaming services think they are needed when they are just convenient for people like me with very little time to circumvent. I will pay 20 for a service but fuck if I’m watching ads if I’m already paying.

Already dumped Disney+ when they doubled the subs.
Lasted just long enough for consoles to drop disc support.

I’m doing my part by doing nothing.
We get Disney+ free as a promotion from a telecom provider.
The only exception to the rule is Junior Mode profiles, which will remain completely free of commercial advertising and sponsor placements.
Looks like its time to create a Junior Mode profile for whatever content is available there at least (G or TV-Y rated content).
My dvd collection has no ads and can stream it off my network share to any screen in the house
There is another reason this change is terrible, and that is that their ad servers are slow as hell.
A commercial break is padded with time to load the ads, and it often just loops the same ad several times.
There is content on Hulu I have wanted to watch for about 6 months but I never do because I don't want to deal with their long commercials and volume spikes associated with their ads. The volume spikes are illegal for TV/Satellite but I guess the regulation doesn't cover streaming.
