Hey, Ask Lemmy, we all know that people love to talk about themselves, and I'd love to hear about some of your pleasant experiences. So, please, no matter how big; no matter how small, tell me something that you are proud to have made :)

I managed to write an almost 50,000 word fanfic once. That was cool. Also got nice comments on it. Also cool.

Way more recently I like the dehydrated apple slices.

[–] rosahaj@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The comments make it worth it :)

Also, most of the responses here on lemmy.ml have been food related, unlike the other communities, and I'm not sure what that means, but you mentioning the apple slices makes me wonder if it's some kind of curse at this point lol.

Unsure why food is more talked about! I also don't really pay attention to what server things are on. I probably should!

I created a web server at a Raspberry Pi and I am not a programmer πŸ«‘πŸ˜‹

Designed and built an automatic β€œgarage door” for my vacuum robot (Dreame x40 Master) which is built a kitchen cabinet.

All made possible by valetudo, homeassistant and esphome

(almost) forged my own knife ! Of course there was an actual craftsman overseeing the process, explaining and showing everything, and handling the actually hard parts (making the piece of steel perfectly flat after we forged it, and making the actual edge of the knife after we pre-shaped it) but there were still a lot of steps where I could have fucked it up and I'm happy with the result ! That thing cuts better than my 350€ folding knife (the catch is that it's regular steel, not stainless)

This article on how to buy a dirt cheap 'junk' Sony PSP from Japan, and how to bring it back to life!

I love the Sony PSP, and any excuse I can find to write about them is fine by me. But I'm proud of this one :)

An ungodly mess of cables, planks, threaded rod, and old, used servers! My very own Proxmox Cluster! I have spent years tweaking and changing it, but I've had some services up (not, like, continuously) for 13 years now. The original server was an i7-950, and now I'm on dual Xeon Silver on my newest box.

[–] B0rax@feddit.org 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Out of curiosity(and having a proxmox cluster myself): which services did you have for the longest time now?

[–] phanto@lemmy.ca 2 points 21 hours ago

Nextcloud! It was it's own box, then a VM.

i just covered a whole neighborhood in rapid response phone numbers and stencil graffiti a few hours after a man was abducted. now everyone there should know how to look for goons and who to call to chase the cunts out.

I made my son a Star wars landspeeder bed, and literally the only 'design' I had was a small hot wheels version that I used to base things off of. Put it together myself with construction grade wood from the hardware store, and a router I bought off marketplace, total cost in materials was under $300. I don't really have any experience with wood working, although I assisted my dad with building houses and finishing basements with my dad.

The front is a functioning storage area with a pneumatic lid.

I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

What a lovely question! I’m excited to see what other people answer <3

This week I made one of the best loafs of blueberry lemon bread that I’ve ever made. It was super tasty!

[–] Nickelalloy@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Blueberry and lemon bread sounds really good but should I expect it to be bread or more cake like?

Thanks, looks really good!

That sounds fantastic! I'm not an especially adept baker myself, but the draw... it calls to me sometimes. Although, on my Lemmy account I made a post asking for (bread) recipes, if you take my hint.

I chose this as a sweet little question that could spark a bit of joy (and advance my ulterior aims of a thriving fediverse community), thank you :)

Lemon blueberry bread sounds amazing!

I recently made by far the best focaccia of all the focaccias I've ever made.

Wow. Wonderful Airbubbles in there! Mine always is more compact i envy you.

One little thing: kalamata olives are the shit. Would love for you to try them out in focaccia.

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Thank you! Most of mine came out not very light until recently. Found a great recipe. It's a super long process, but came out very nicely everytime so far. Basically high protein flour, very wet dough, kneading the absolute shit out of it and then folding it many times over hours. Here's the recipe in German.

I love kalamata olives as well and have them quite often, but I prefer a very firm and more acidic olive baked in dough – big, fat green ones haha. I also feel like they stay more juicy.

Edit: Ha, eben erst den Namen gelesen, dann sollte das Rezept ja kein Problem sein ;)

I self published two books and am very proud of them. Currently working on my third. The ideas are like little babies you craft into fully formed things, and it's a journey to get there - like a jigsaw and the total number of pieces and the shape keep changing as you progress. I love the experience of piecing ideas into a whole, dropping clues and red herrings, building tension, working towards revelations.

Also this, in memory of Murphy:

I'm currently building a round shield. I have absolute no experience doing this and little to no woodworking experience so I know it won't be the best or even good. But I'm proud non the less.

[–] Nickelalloy@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Really cool, will you decorate it as well? Is it for Reenactment/markets or just for decoration?

[–] svamp@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 hours ago

It will be decorated as close to historical findings as I can manage. I reenact vikingage so it will mainly be used for that.

[–] mbp@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

Great way to get started!

[–] monovergent@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Perfected a recipe using mostly fresh ingredients to replicate my favorite overpriced frozen microwave meal

If I could do this, I swear my life would get 10x easier.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

both last weekend, and this weekend I made sauce from my bucket loads of san marzano tomatoes. All the herbs (and the carrot I stuck in there) were from the garden too! Muy bien, very happy :)

[–] rosahaj@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That sounds delicious, although I do wonder what brings forth the need to make weekly batches of sauce.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I deleted this on accident, got frustrsted with myself and walked away haha

Im glad you can see it. It is def not weekly, the garden tomatoes are just ripe. You either do something with them, or they rot, so Ive been making sauce :)

[–] rosahaj@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, that makes sense. I'll admit I've not done much gardening at all.

I'll copy your original comment down here, just to keep it preserved before it gets synced out of existence forever.

All I wanted to do was fix my punctuation/capital letters, and deleted it instead, thank you!
