I always just liked the irony of putting this guy on a tshirt and selling them at retailers.

I made one with mickey mouse ears on him.

Back when Post-Modern stuff like that wasn't considered Cultural Marxism or part of MAGAs claims about the trans agenda. Post-Modernism was just remixing art and stuff.

I know he was a very violent revolutionary, but do you have sources for him specifically targeting any of those people/groups? I know he oversaw the execution of a lot of people from the Batista government, but hadn't heard of any specific targeting based on race, sexual orientation, or jobs.

I meant the guy is taking shitposting very seriously, I think they decided to follow through in the comments.

However shitty the takes and the self proclaimed engagement baiting.

The revolution freed the slaves in Cuba, ended its colonialism by the US, provided free medicine and education for every citizen, reformed land so there were no big landlords any longer, created vast amounts of infrastructure in rural areas that did not have any before this, and much, much more. The ones killed by the revolution were the fascists in the Batista regime. Marxism-Leninism is the ideology of the liberation of the working classes around the world.

Cuba has more doctors per sq. inch than another country in NA. Everybody in Cuba is highly educated despite it being a place where not the smartest people vacation to. Only reason Cuba is not an economic power house is because of the embargo that's been going on for 50 years.

[–] TheStaffmaster@lemmy.world 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

indeed. the biggest reason socialism fails is because capitalists keep kneecaping it, not because its a flawed system.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 19 points 1 month ago (5 children)

The narrative that socialism has always failed is also wrong, too. Cuba is doing far better than they would have for its people had it remained a sugar colony. China is quickly advancing to the top of the world stage. Socialism does work, despite siege, even if it would do better without it.

[–] beejboytyson@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Shit I'd argue Cubans got it better then Americans rn. At least thier cancer gets treated.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 17 points 1 month ago

Right now the genocidal blockade is preventing vital cancer-treating medicine from entering Cuba, so while Cuba does have numerous advantages over the US even with its imperialism, right now the people are being starved and cut off of vital necessities.

Their scientists also developed a very potent cure for Alzheimers disease named NeuralCIM. Dr. Bill Blanchet, a US doctor is helping US patients to get treatment in Cuba. AFAIK the only western country doing a clinical trial with it is Canada.

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 month ago

Yep! It's also resource poor as an island, which makes it that much more impressive!

Revolutionaries aren't perfect, so it's better to stick with the facist billionaire pedophiles that you already know and love.

[–] OryxAndCake@slrpnk.net 15 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Do you know what a 'strawman' is?

[–] greygore@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think this is more false dichotomy than strawman.

Never blindly idolise a person. Everyone has god and bad sides. Some more of one or the other. Let them inspire you not think for you. He however wasn't much of a thinking kinda guy...

It baffles me how this guy became an icon.

Here's a short video if anyone wants to learn about him

Symbols are easier than actual people. Nobody is just one thing, and complexity doesn't travel well. Revolutionaries are either lionized or demonized, and so it becomes easier for the critics to ignore valid points while simultaneously being easier for the supporters to ignore atrocities. Rather than an objective, complete understanding of the man, you get polarized factions that don't see each other as people.

I’m sure the fact that he was really hot had a lot to do with it. The guy was very nice to look at, and that worked very well in the use of widespread visual propaganda.

Same with Stalin. Did you know young Stalin looked like this?

Yeah…

Latin American hangs out with Westerner is the usual path.

Remember when the CIA funded schools to teach Right Wing Death Squads and they put in a bunch of rightwing dictators in because they're scared of communism having a turn?

History is hilarious. The School of the Americas. Life, Liberty, and teaching massacres 101:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Hemisphere_Institute_for_Security_Cooperation#Criticism

"The U.S. Army School of the Americas is a school that has run more dictators than any other school in the history of the world."

- Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II[83]

Humans never learn. They have a bloody revolution to overthrow the dictator so they can install another dictator.
