Like the Romans used to drink from lead cups. Something like that.

(it appears that the moderator is removing any replies with which he disagrees. It might be a piefed issue. But all the removed replies are top level and upopular. Stranger coincidences have happened I suppose.)

Stare at their phones every possible moment.

[–] dr_robotBones@reddthat.com 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Driving, it actually kills alot of people not having a centralised transport system

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 19 hours ago

I think we'd all be better off if bicycles were the norm instead of cars. I can't ride a bicycle but I don't have a driver's license either. If everyone rode bicycles instead of driving cars, there'd be less pollution, no worries about gas prices, and people would get more exercise

Social media is a cancer and allows the worst of society a platform.

[–] biggerbogboy@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 day ago

Doom scrolling short form video.

My dad does this for hours per day after work and nothing else, and now it seems he's lost all his critical thinking completely and is commonly disregulated, and I'm kind of afraid he'll get more forgetful and erratic, since he's already showing signs of slipping into Alzheimer's.

Standing at a register for check out. Mostly a US thing from what I've heard. It's wicked bad for you.

Oh and AI sucks ass and you're a bad person if you use it.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Handling register receipt tape too... It's literally carcinogenic.

[–] weariedfae@sh.itjust.works 3 points 19 hours ago

Yep and full of endocrine disruptors. And the companies do not want you to wear gloves.

  1. I'm guilty of it but browsing social media. The algorithms are intentionally designed to keep you addicted and engaged and all fall for it.

  2. A lot of people think one lives to work not working to live. So many people flexing they work 80 hours a week but by the time they retire, all the savings and pensions go to medication and elderly care.

Glitter. Just spreading micro plastics.

[–] Ozymati@lemmy.nz 2 points 22 hours ago

Biodegradable glitter is a thing. Unfortunately it's not an enforced at retail thing.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I don't allow glitter in my home.

Drinking from plastic bottles.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago

Isolate themselves to mostly just their phone and the façade world that exists within.

[–] late_pessimistic@slrpnk.net 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Things that could be harmful but we don't know for sure yet?

Possibly porn. Currently we really lack research on porn's effect on people. Whoever tells you confidently it's normal or degenerate is a liar. No one knows. We are just running a society-wide experiment in real time.

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Have you actually looked if there's scholarship on it? Because I'd be amazed if there isn't, and I'm gonna be pissed if I use my library and find a shitload of it.

[–] late_pessimistic@slrpnk.net 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Frankly, no, I didn't check Google Scholar or similar. I only asked an LLM if there is research and what it says.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago

Driving cars.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

definitely AI, so many people are dependant on it, and it even shows that it degrades peoples education as well. ruinings peoples future career/layoffs too.

Believing they're well informed because they absorb just enough information to make a value judgement. The more you train yourself to process the world in that half-assed way, the more you'll run your life like that.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

All the harsh, cancerous chemicals you or your neighbors are pumping into your lawns and the city is using on the public parks you take your kids to.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Breathe. I live in coal fired power plant country, I will have a lower life expectancy because of what I'm breathing in.

[–] wolfrasin@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

[–] Gobbel2000@programming.dev 3 points 1 day ago
