Idk if I have encountered someone anti imperialist in Australia that isn't pretty clear eyed about the ongoing genocide against aboriginal Aussies.
Most people are disgustingly racist but most people aren't ashamed of that either.
The situation is fucking awful :( people in Australia generally are not very politically conscious. It's very status quo liberals and reactionaries.
Yeah, politics is something we "don't talk about" in this country and people will legitimately get mad at you for even discussing it, which is something the reactionaries are very good at using, they love making a topic "political" so people don't discuss it and their viewpoint on it is just the default.
Sometimes it feels like we might end up being the world's last capitalist holdout even after the US collapses, just due to sheer indifference and people looking to blame foreigners for all our problems.

I met someone on lemmy doing the 14% line but for aboriginals. Literally said something along the lines of, "they are all criminals, alcoholics, and murderers who can't be assimilated". Reading through his comment history was wild, dude was genuinely arguing for segregation.
Not sure what the 14% line is but unfortunately that's extremely common. I was raised to cross the street to avoid the house.

(this is a joke if it wasn't already obvious, afaik the reason people are so racist against the romani is because the fact many of them are nomadic, which clashes with a largely sedentary society, although it's mostly bigotry ofc)

I think some of you have only really encounted Europeans on reddit and twitter if you think the switch to Hitlerian rhetoric is connected to Romani people specifically. No. It's all minorities, it's MENA people, it's especially any indigenous group (Sami and Inuit for example), it's slavs.
The Romani absolutely get European racists blood boiling at their mere existence, and you will see people presenting as "reasonable liberals" frothing at the mouth and their eyes bulging with racial animus over someone mentioning Romani people. But Inuit are subject to gdnocidal rhetoric on a daily basis from official government channels (And the rhetoric is worse in media, and even worse than that interpersonally), "centrist" parties will openly speak of building camps for MENA people, Sami get treated like some sort of ungrateful locust, and French media and politicians speaking about Africans is just plain disgusting.

Hopefully, other countries will learn from watching us that conservatism IS fascism. This cancer is on the rise in numerous countries, and most of the fascist leadership in other countries will be more intelligent and more competent than Trump.
