so their plan was to invite people "far enough from technology" (or dumb enough), so that anthropic can piss into their ears; and people would go about their duty, promoting AI ? lol that's so insulting I feel bad for Pope

What an amazing dumb thing to do. Going to God’s representative on Earth and tell him that you have created life ha ha ha

[–] TiredDinoByte@lemmy.today 28 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Not only that, but you have immediately enslaved it for profit... What possible positive outcome for Anthropic could have come from this?

[–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

I an rooting for stake burning, first time in history that I feel it is proper.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 32 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

AI in general, at some point in the future, sure. The "AI"s that Anthropic is currently making? Hell no.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

The closer AI comes to our level of consciousness, the more our level of consciousness is being revealed as lame in the first place.

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 3 points 1 hour ago

Peter Watts's Blindsight novel is genuinely the only scifi book I've read in a decade that made me challenge my own beliefs on humanity's place in the universe by asking the simple question of "Is consciousness actually a survival trait?"

Christ I have to use AI and Claude specifically, and god damn is that not concious. It's obvious you're fighting with a machine. These people are loons.

[–] Obituarykidney@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Pretty ridiculous that they've made tech that requires you to fight the machine to use. And that's the basket they're throwing all their eggs into.

[–] pomp@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

I use it in my job and it has increased my productivity so much that my work hours are basically halved. I don't understand what you guys mean by fighting the machine?

I'm the most senior tech support with coding background and I'm blown away by Claude. I do have to interact with it a lot to get to the root cause of a ticket - is that the fighting you're talking about?

[–] CorrectAlias@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

The main 'fighting' that I've experienced is it being "confidently" incorrect about something I'm very knowledgeable about, so I have to constantly check what it's doing anyway. I've also had to keep it from creating unnecessary functions and variables, from leaving empty comments (as in, empty of substance or actual context, leaving comments just to leave comments). It also constantly makes up problems to "solve". It seems to have only gotten worse and worse with each subsequent model release. It wastes so many tokens doing things that don't matter or are otherwise incorrect.

I honestly feel less productive in my job with it for 80-90% of the time, but the company makes me use the slop bot. It works for the basics, but any time I add complexity, I begin having to fight against the machine. I could see how I could feel more productive, it can iterate through code very fast. But most of it has something wrong, is bloated, or is just completely irrelevant. I ultimately just end up feeling like I wasted an entire day to get a subpar and soulless result.

[–] pomp@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

That makes sense. I use it to solve bugs which it's good at, but don't use it for writing code. And yeah I do have to fight it a little to stay on track and stop looking for other bugs.

Only yesterday, on my personal free chatgpt account it had to commit to memory "stop stating things as fact that you don't know for sure" lol. Like you'd think that would be trained in

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 minutes ago

It's explicitly not trained in because people don't go to the free chatGPT to get actual truthful answers (or "I don't know"), they go there to have their biases confidently confirmed.

[–] Obituarykidney@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Idk, I don't use it for work but in the limited interactions I've had with ai it's required arguing with to get it to actually give me correct results. Most of my experiences with it are when it's shoved into places it doesn't belong. Customer support, search engines, contact forms etc

[–] pomp@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Fair enough. I just see that as part of the process. If we didn't have to guide them, they'd have our jobs already

[–] Obituarykidney@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago

Yeah but that sucks. I don't want to have to argue with a bot too get some customer service. It's already taken their jobs and it's not ready or fit for purpose. Which is why it's ridiculous.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 3 points 12 hours ago

And that the general population seems to be okay with it. Definitely not enough people just saying no to it.

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

He isn't making the distinction, it's about not having a soul.

[–] Epp@lemmus.org 3 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

Where does one find the soul during an autopsy?

[–] Grimy@lemmy.world 1 points 52 minutes ago* (last edited 45 minutes ago)

You don't, but the Pope will tell you it exists and that's why machines can't ever be conscious.

I don't understand why everyone is giving credence to chief pedo over here. Not that I think LLMs are conscious, just that the org that was saying the same about black people back in the day probably isn't an expert on the subject.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

As is well known, the soul is located under the bladder, for a great weight is lifted from it upon urination.

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Believe it or not, the nipples.

[–] RotatingParts@lemmy.ml 15 points 13 hours ago

Next the pro life group will step in and say you can't kill AI or god will cry and send you to hell where he will stop crying and laugh with joy at your suffering. Hmm, where did that come from? Could I be on to something? :)

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Yeah and Google's Gemini tried to persuade me that Israel didn't commit genocide. AI is not "one tool to rule them all". One can use AI in a productive way or in a just energy waste way.

[–] phonics@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Even if it did. What would it matter. It's not made in God's image. An octopus is conscious but the Pope don't give a shit(in the woods)
