I can't get the fingerprinting protection to work correctly on IronFox, but my combination of extensions works fine with Fennec and LibreWolf on desktop. I tried playing with the fingerprinting presets and disabling webGL, but none of that has worked.

I really don't want to use Fennec since it seems to have all the Mozilla bloat. It won't even erase history on close, only when clicking "Quit" from the selection menu, which I think is a fucking terrible design decision.

I'm using this site to see if a random hash is generated on each reload: https://royfish.dev/fingerprints-are-the-new-cookies

So I am able to get a random hash on every reload of the royfish.dev page with uazo/cromite browser IF I go into site settings and set timezone to random for each site.

Cromite has excellent fingerprint protection out of the box, but a scrambled timezone may be considered a suboptimal default so one has to go select that manually

I mean it depends on how many other people have the same fingerprint as you. It's much more complex for the same browser on the same device to randomize the fingerprint but still allow most sites to actually work. If it gives unsupported resolutions, audio codecs, etc., then sites will break or at best be really harder to use. The idea is to make you look the same as everyone else rather than unique. It's a balance between making you less unique and making more sites work properly. Without knowing how common that fingerprint hash is, it's hard to say if it's working. And a lot of things like disabling JavaScript or webgl to protect yourself from threats or setting your time zone to UTC-0 tend to just make you more unique since few people use those settings, or live in that time zone.

Honestly, just use Vanadium on GrapheneOS instead of IronFox

It’s more secure and if your browser gets compromised, your phone’s security goes out the window. I’m fine trading a little privacy for better security

I'm not going to use a browser without an ad blocker. They claim Vanadium blocks ads, but it does not.

Use NextDNS.

I prefer not using a Chrome browser

I know they're right. But I prefer not to use a Chrome browser.

Firefox just rolled out process isolation on Android.

[–] Sapphy@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

It's weaker than Vanadium's OS native isolation, though it's nice to see Firefox catching up about two years later

I'm pretty sure that's no longer true as of this year. I don't have a reference, but I remember sandbox site isolation being implemented in Firefox (so Ironfox too)

Secondly, when it comes to browsers, the more you hide, the more you stand out, so try to blend in with most people

You stand out more if you have very strong fingerprint protection, which ironically makes you easier to track since you’re an anomaly

Are you trying to give internet cancer? Vanadium doesn't even have ad-blocking or fingerprint resistance.

[–] BladeFederation@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

Vanadium does have ad blocking. It is just not as good as Brave or uBlock Origin.

I do second using a Chromium browser of some kind though. Brave, Vanadium, or Cromite. I understand people who prefer to avoid Chromium, but not sandboxing by site on Android is such a strange thing to avoid implementing for years & years. It defeats a lot of what you're trying to accomplish to use Gecko based browsers. On desktop? Have at it. Android? I wouldn't if you're the type of person who is installing GrapheneOS.

Vanadium blocks ads for me 🤷‍♂️
