Big guy is a little bigger than a quarter. Both have been there for about an hour.

I'm pretty sure that the long-legged spider is facing away from the short-legged one.

The big one doesn't consider the little one a threat. The little one, however, is waiting. If the big one doesn't pay attention for even a fraction of a second, it's over...

You think the jumper can take the wolf?

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yes. The body sizes are the same so the poison from the jumper will be enough to take it down. The legs don't mean much on a fight if the jumper makes the first move.

Oh, wow.

I had no idea jumpers predated on other sliders, and didn't even notice the body size comparison.

Good work.

Fun spider fact: one of the smartest animals in the world is a spider that hunts other spiders. Even spiders fear spiders.

Jumping spiders are amazing!

Beauty. Jumpers (under 1 kilo) are the best spider-bros. Bird-catchers still weird me out.

I really hope they're all under 1 kilo

Some jumping spiders specialize in eating spiders.

I don't know much about spiders, but I think that the short-legged one might be Phidippus audax.

The presence of a large (typically triangular) white spot in the center of the abdomen with two smaller spots below it is often used to distinguish this species.

The chelicerae are iridescent green.
