A breakfast sandwich usually consists of at a minimum:

  • bagel or english muffin
  • egg
  • optional - extra - some kind of meat like bacon or sausage

On my already admittedly loud and dressed up sandwich (just made a batch earlier today), I like:

  • EVERYTHING BAGEL (all the seeds and stuff)
  • CREAM-CHEESE on the bagel both sides
  • SALTED BUTTERon the bagel both sides
  • GUACAMOLE on the bagel both sides, maybe some in the middle
  • EGG (brown) -> omelette evenly split up into 7 portions for 7 days of the week or worth of breakfasts
  • SALSA covering up all the yellow of the egg
  • HASHBROWN/potato patty
  • maybe some BRUSCHETTA to get that tomato complimenting potato even tho thats covered by the salsa already

Pairs fantastically with an English Breakfast tea (black, also taken black) and Pea Milk 🀘

I pop three eggs in a pan, add salt and cover with four slices of toast. Flip when the eggs are done and drop on a slice of cheddar and ham, some rucola. When the toast is toasty i just fold 'em over at th egg-seam.

I call it Alabama eggs - because they're in bread.

My wife makes something similar, but this is an interesting twist. Totally stealing that name for any egg sandwich, though.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do yourself a favor and try a nice slixe of tomato. Or microgeens.

I usually have bruschetta (spread) on hand

[–] orenj@leminal.space 4 points 2 days ago

Gotta be a scrambled egg, runny yolk just gets on my hands and mouth and makes me want to call him. I also put whatever cheese on it and red pepper

[–] MxRemy@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Definitely HOT SAUCE, no matter what else

Hard pass but I'm glad you found something you enjoy 😘

Let me show you a few favorites I have made!
Scrambled egg with green onion and shrimp on roll

Scrambled egg and cheese on everything bagel

Scrambled egg with green onion and cheese on plain bagel

Sausage, over medium egg and cheese on English muffin

Sausage, over hard egg, cheese and hashbrown on English muffin

Scrambled egg with green onion and cheese on plain bagel

Egg over hard with green onion, cheese and bacon on English muffin

The only minimum requirement for me is egg!

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Im definitely missing green onion, thanks for the tip. I might just buy an onion but I would love if there was an already prepped version like how theres already smushed garlic and stuff like that

Honestly, green onions grow so well in a pot on the countertop, and then just take kitchen scissors and trim off a few inches for your sammiches? Perfection

[–] Duchess@piefed.linenoise.vip 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Let the green onion bits cook in the fat for a minute before adding the egg for maximum flavor transfer!

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Good deal boss

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

It varies based on what I have on hand and how much time I want to spend.

bready part: croissant > bagel > english muffin > bread

eggy part: scrambled egg with diced onion and sweet bell pepper (red/orange/yellow, not shitty green pepper)

cheesy part: sharp cheddar > pepper jack > less cheddar > swiss > american cheese

meaty part: bacon > sausage > ham

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Upvote for the shitty green bell pepper.

The rest all taste better. Why would you go out of your way to get green? (If they're cheaper and you need to spend your money wisely, that's a different story.)

[–] blackbrook@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They taste different. I like sweet bell peppers too, but green gives a green pepper flavor they lack. Using both is ideal, but I appreciate either alone too. Or poblano!

[–] GreyEyedGhost@piefed.ca 4 points 1 day ago

And I'm mostly joking. People can eat what they like. Even if it's trash.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

They definitely taste different, hence me calling the green peppers "shitty" :) I find that they taste particularly vile, and growing up that was the only pepper ever used in our meals so I thought that I hated all peppers. Nope, just green bell peppers.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Gotta add bell pepper to mine

Also, u dont care for cream cheese?

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

nah, though I can see why it might make sense if you're using a bagel. I feel like it would just make the sandwich content slip out of the middle.

Tortilla or pita with peanut butter and jelly or fruit

Toast with tomato sauce and butter

Cheese sandwich with apple slices

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

buttermilk biscuit cut in half with butter and a slice of spinach & onion omelet

alternately when in season, a thin slice of toasted multigrain with thick slices of heirloom tomato and two eggs fried over hard, optionally fresh torn basil

but a PB&J on wheat is also a fine breakfast

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Gotta add spinach to mine

  • [] Spinach

Depends on my mood. I'm either an egg cheddar and crispy bacon kind of person, or a home fries and eggs kind of person. I find hash browns are too oily in a sandwich for me the few times I've had them.

A place in the by me has a soft boiled egg, cheddar cheese, and tomato with salt and pepper in a pita pocket that is also delicious.

Edit: It's afternoon, dinner is in the oven, and now I want breakfast... Thanks.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I need pepper too, thanks for remind

[–] crandall@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Ham (or bacon) egg and cheese, always. With the egg over medium if I'm cooking. The bread can vary. I like an everything bagel though.

I barely ever have bread for breakfast. And when I do it's toast with my full English.

I haven't done one in forever, but I was quite proud of my breakfast sandwich. The original used a hoagie roll and the final build used a brioche bun.

From the bottom up, it's bun bottom, mayonnaise, 1 hash brown pattie (1.5 for the hoagie), a slice of pepper jack cheese (1.5 for the hoagie), a fried egg shaped like the bun, another/1.5 slice of pepper jack, sausage (or 1.5), mayo, top bun.

I used to be able to put back two of the hoagies. I'd make two of them, put them on a plate, and go into my room and eat them. Now I can't finish one of the brioche ones.

Toasted bagel (sesame or poppy preferred) if I'm more hungry, English muffin if less hungry

Scrambled egg for even texture

Pork roll/Taylor Ham if available, or either bacon or sausage, whichever is better at the place I'm at.

American or cheddar based on my mood

A good cracking of black pepper

Hash brown on top of I'm feeling extra

[–] spittingimage@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Just lately - one fried egg, salt, nothing else. It's basic, but it's what I'm enjoying.

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

White bread (I know it's not the healthiest but that's what I like) Hummus Avocado Sprouts Salt, black pepper, paprika Tomato if feeling fancy

[–] veggay@kbin.earth 2 points 2 days ago

Greasy alternative:

  • White bread
  • Butter
  • Vegan breakfast sausage disk - preferably the "spicy" version
  • Vegan cheese (like Chao or Daiya)
  • Avocado
  • Vegan JustEgg (the omelette looking one)
[–] Rynux@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What do you think is better?
-Sandwich
or
-Toast

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I do toast or litely bake the bagels just so they're a bit toasted

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Everything bagel toasted
Cream cheese.
Sunny side up egg.
Cholula

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ways that last one? Cholila?

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Cholula

A Tabasco-like hot sauce, pleasant enough to go well on nearly anything.

I'm a Franks Red Hot or maybe Crystal kinda guy myself in this department, but they are ubiquitous North American red pepper sauces.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Ah k. I love salsa but ironically i dont like things too "hot", cant put that (your hot sauce) stuff on anything :(

Try Valentina. Its "hot sauce" but very mild.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They're all how hot most average hot wings are, if that helps. If you wouldn't eat Buffalo wings, you won't like any of these sauces.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's perfectly fine to like it but like whatever you want. It's one of the few childhood dreams adulthood actually allows us! πŸ˜„

I've cooked for people that thought regular black pepper was borderline too spicy, and that's their prerogative.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yep, that is the great thing :) Im enjoying that aspect
