He said the killing wasn’t done out of hatred for his father, but to force the U.S. government to meet his demands — including the resignation of federal workers and the erasure of public debt.

I'm gonna say this lad isn't mentally well. But im sure being fed all that MAGA shit didn't help

Who... Who was he expecting the ransom from? Is the US government supposed to just wipe out its own debt? NVM what a wacko

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 2 days ago

I guess the govt could just default on the debt, which would cause a tiny teeny bit of economic problems globally. Nothing big deal, of course. cough

Wouldn't be surprised if this guy's brain is full of lead

Fetal alcohol syndrome, if you read about it there are specific facial features that are pretty telling. I'm no expert but I'd make a bet.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 42 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What an actual psychopath.

It's truly harrowing there's people out there that would brutally dismember their family because they dared show compassion to other humans

Fucking hell America

[–] Semester3383@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

He's not a psychopath; he's psychotic. Those are very, very different.

Psychopathy and sociopathy are functionally identical; they're personality disorders where a person largely lacks the capacity for empathy, and hence remorse. Being psychotic means that you're experiencing delusions; you may be hearing voices, or having uncontrollable impulses to do things that would be out of character. His behavior, based on what he's saying, is entirely delusional; he doesn't even have internally consistent logic in his actions.

Violent rhetoric definitely influences the mentally ill.

Belief without proof has killed more people than anything throuought all of earth's history.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 2 days ago

that is the conservative way, they are most likely to fall for any scams in general.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 days ago (4 children)

That's a roundabout name for ignorance.

[–] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago

Ignorance is the lack of knowledge or information.

What OP was referring to would be delusion.

They have knowledge and information but choose to believe something else.

[–] CuffsOffWilly@lemmy.ml 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think they were subtly referring to religion but same same.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Belief without proof" is the literal definition of faith, but it goes hand in hand with ignorance.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca -5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (3 children)

"Belief without proof" is what we are all forced to do in life where proof is rarely available, and yet we must still make decisions, and we must manage our doubt and the strain of responsibility. If you think you're immune, you don't understand the first thing about your own mind.

[–] Reality_Suit@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I make decisions on my past experiences and then adjust if things change. If people are just doing things without proof, then we just found the problem now, didn't we?

There is so much proof for so many things, there is an abundance of empirical proof across the board. This is a shit take.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

But proof is always available if you know where to look, and that comes from education. The more educated you are, the less faith you have, and the more confidence you gain from our collective empirical experience. Nobody's claiming anything else here. I know the mind is flawed.

[–] Reality_Suit@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yes, they're the same.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 15 points 3 days ago

The best people.

I mean it sure sends a message. Not the one he wanted to send but a message anyway

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wow. The right goes to extremes to prevent democrats from voting.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

So do the Dems to prevent people from voting for left-wing people.

[–] DrFistington@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

So is this another instance of this happening, or a story about the same thing that happened a few years back

[–] zdanger@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yeah, this happened in January of 2024. It sounds like the case is finally in court

[–] KazuyaDarklight@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I love when an article describing the most batshit stuff ends with "and the judge decided he was competent to stand trial."
