One thing seems to be certain, the 30s will be excitingly crazy again.

[–] saimen@feddit.org 1 points 1 minute ago

And instead of the roaring twenties we got Covid

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 3 points 47 minutes ago

My god The Economist interviewer is as useless as ever.. She didn't seriously press her on any of the bread-and-butter issues because she's in agreement with economic austerity, she just disagees on some of the details. This interview made Alice look pretty decent.

She has a hateful face

Putin the comrade sure has very good ties to alot of extreme right wing groups all over the world. He might be by far the biggest supporter of world-wide fascism.

Finland is a small country, it could never win against russia. Also does german call ukraine "the ukraine" or did she also read that straight from the script? Cause if im correct calling ukraine "the ukraine" is a common thing amongst people who dont believe ukraine is independant from russia.

[–] You@feddit.org 6 points 1 hour ago

Might be a dog whistle, might be a simple mistake stemming from her being German. Your guess is correct, in German the country's name has an article and is called "die Ukraine" (no, not meant as a Bart Simpson reference).

Vietnam is too small, can never win against America

Underrated comment

Russia is a pretty weak country but their influence and propaganda game is S tier.

They are going for the mind fuck win and it’s working.

Since she is a lesbian married to a POC and living in Switzerland being a leader of nazis afd party, the leopard eating face phase is not too far away.

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 hour ago

She'd deport her own wife if it would give her an advantage.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 hours ago

I always wonder about those spouses...

You are married to a Nazi. You are brown, so to speak. Do you not understand? What exactly atebyou expecting will happen over time? Like, what is your endgame here?

[–] excral@feddit.org 77 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

She's defending Russia's imperialism in broad daylight. She's saying Ukraine is to small to defend themselves from Russia. If that argument was valid, who else wouldn't be allowed to defend themselves from Russia? Belarus, Georgia, Estonia. Is Russia entitled to invade and conquer all of them simply because they are significantly larger? Ukraine didn't start an unwinnable war. They are defending themselves and fighting for their very lives

Germany as well. Russia is way bigger than Germany, France, the USA, China.... I guess we are all Russians now.

[–] steel_for_humans@piefed.social 15 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

A good solution to that problem is making Russia small again. It should be split into sovereign nations giving back the land and cultures that they took forcibly.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

That would even mean there’s another officially Jewish state, which would be helpful in distinguishing between antizionism and antisemitism (assuming [read: really, really hoping] that it doesn’t ally itself with Israel regarding Palestine)

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 22 points 7 hours ago

LOL.

Every kid learns that you have to stand up to bullies.

If Ukraine just chucks in the towel, then Putin will just move on to the next campaign.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 29 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

She isn't very eloquent. She can't explain this in other terms than "Ukraine is too small", but TOGETHER we are not too small, that's the whole point. She's a fucking nonce.

[–] boomzilla@programming.dev 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

In addition she lies like her true masters Lawrow, Peskow and Putler, all the time. I did a fact check on an interview Bloomberg did with her a year ago or so. About every sentence contained wrong data, false information and lies. Completely unchecked by the interviewer. Posted a lengthy comment which amassed some 3000 likes over night and was demanded by commenters to be pinned. Instead it was deleted. I now know what to think of Bloomberg.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

I can imagine all of this to be true. She sounds dumb af.

From which platform was this comment you made deleted btw?

[–] tirateimas@lemmy.pt 83 points 10 hours ago

Russia in 4 years wasn't able to achieve anything and they are now stuck. They failed on all measures. They tried mercenaries, arsenal from other countries, boots on the ground from other countries, and all sorts of campaigns to make Ukraine and their support to fall. All failed.

I would say Russia is not half as strong as it tries to present itself.

Just tangerine mussolini and this kind of dump politicians fall for it.

The afd is a right-wing, extremist party, with ideas that are a direct threat to democracy. Among all the rightwing parties in Europe, this one is the most dangerous, as it is, at its core, deeply fascist. It’s pulling in uninformed voters, and may well be the biggest party in Germany soon; political chaos will ensue, and ordinary people will suffer the most.

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 9 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

AfD is the new name of the NSDAP.

[–] ZC3rr0r@piefed.ca 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Well, I mean National Socialism was the "Alternative for Germany" of its day, so the parallel really must not have gone unnoticed by the AfD either.

[–] You@feddit.org 1 points 15 minutes ago (1 children)

No no no! You got that wrong. The NSDAP at its core was a leftist party!

(According to Alice Weidel)

[–] ZC3rr0r@piefed.ca 1 points 12 minutes ago

You had me in the first half, not gonna lie. ;-)

If you want to know what happens if she and Marine Le Pen in France get the power,

So:

  • In the US, Trump's last year is 2028. Mind, Vance has generally been considered to be the most-likely Republican nominee and is isolationist, but I don't know how well he'd do, given Trump's now-very-high unpopularity and his association with the Trump administration. Rubio, who I've seen listed as being the second-most-likely Republican nominee, is a lot more conventional, and I'd assume that any Democratic president would likely also be. 2028 elections are still a long way out, so hard to make many calls yet.

  • In the UK, while Reform topped polling for a while, Labour has finally managed to pull a little ahead, and the Conservatives look to me likely to do so as well. So my guess is that the likelihood of Prime Minister Farage is on the downswing.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_United_Kingdom_general_election

  • In France, RN (run by Le Pen) presently holds a large polling lead. LFI (run by MΓ©lenchon) just crept ahead of ENS (run by Macron). Elections are only about six months out.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_2027_French_presidential_election

  • In Germany, AfD is polling on top. The next federal election may not happen until as late as 2029, however, so it could be quite some time away.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_polling_for_the_next_German_federal_election

My understanding is that the German political system can theoretically hold a party with a plurality but not majority of votes out of executive power if everyone else chooses to do so; this is known as the cordon sanitaire. In the past, this had by convention applied to far-right parties. However, I don't know whether this will continue to hold.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cordon_sanitaire_(politics)

A strict political non-cooperation is only exercised against right-wing parties, such as the Republicans, and even the Republicans have exercised a cordon against the neo-Nazi The Homeland. Since 2013, the established major parties have refused to form state-level coalitions with the new right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD). Brandmauer (firewall) is the term most often used in Germany to refer to this non-cooperation policy against the AfD.[24]

In February 2025, the Christian Democratic Union of Germany put forward a non-binding motion, taking AfD votes into account, in the Bundestag to push through a on the detention of undocumented foreigners at borders. This was the first time since 1945 that the cordon sanitaire had been broken in Germany. This event provoked large-scale demonstrations across Germany, with between 160,000 and 250,000 people in Berlin on February 2, and over 220,000 demonstrators in several of the country's major cities the day before.[25][26]

I don't think Putin is controlling them. They just want to grab opportunity of the dismantling system for their delusions of grandeur. Which is worse. That means that getting rid of Putin will change little because other shitheads will continue.

[–] harcesz@szmer.info 15 points 8 hours ago

They are directly funded by Russia as is most of European far right and odd tankie party.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 10 points 8 hours ago

He is not controlling all that they do, but he is funding them and and telling them what to think about certain issues. This take on Ukraine being a common talking point among all right wing parties across Europe (and the world) is not a coincidence.

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 11 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

That doesn't explain why they parrot Putin's speeches.

[–] majster@lemmy.zip 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

It does. They want a might makes right system for them to operate from. Its why Trump followed Putin in its logic. Trump got Venezuela and Iran that way. If we are lucky we will never know what AfD wants to get out of this.

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 6 points 8 hours ago

It is very naive to think there is no collusion going on though. We already have plenty of proof that Putin funds Afd and similar right wing parties in Europe.

[–] Ravi@feddit.org 16 points 11 hours ago

It may change their funding though.
