What's he doing using Steam? He should just use Epic.

Why is this guy such a penis?

Cry harder timmy. You fuckin loser.

[–] df0@leminal.space 27 points 2 days ago

One thing is for sure. Whatever happens, Tim Sweeney will never stop whining and crying online. It is as if he's taken on a challenge to take Musk's throne as the saddest, least funny online personality.

At this rate, all games made in Unreal will automatically need AI disclosures.

The article states that the AI that is disclosed in steam is about art/voice made by ai that makes it into the final release(stuff that's easy to notice). Vibe coding does not need to be disclosed.

[–] Kraiden@piefed.social 93 points 2 days ago (3 children)

There's a real economic cost to [blah blah crybaby way of saying AI disclosures]

Yes. There is. Because informed consumers vote with their wallets. As it should be. Moron.

I notice slopcoders often maintain that "slop code is just as good as code written by humans- in fact it is better!" while also refusing to clearly label their output as slop.

The Epic Store has always been anti-consumer so it's no surprise he defends that kind of practice.

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Every 10th item on rhe epic store is soft core FMV fantasy girlfriend porn.

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 11 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I'm not sure what your point is because Steam is absolutely flooded with porn games, especially since the rise of genAI.

Age ratings tell parents what’s in a game so they can make informed decisions for their kids. These AI statements are just as partisan as mandatory political essays or forcing developers to list their voting history to drive cancel campaigns and public struggle sessions.

Absolutely fuck this fucking guy.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 99 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Honestly, could we have those too? I would love to have that.

[–] noob@lemmy.world 91 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Capitalists - consumers guide the market by making informed ethical purchasing decisions.

Also capitalists - labeling requirements? Absolutely not.

It's a great "better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt" moment. He can't help himself, it's like the more power and money someone has, the more time they have to imagine how they're victims.

But I like to know who is an awful person so I can avoid them, so thanks Tim.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

I figured that many people are sad and lonely, ultra rich people too but they usually also are low empathy ones so that's why they are lonely (and thus sad). Money just helps them force their thoughts down other peoples throats without effort.

Sweeney: AAAAhhhh! Why is Steam so popular and Epic isn't?! They have AI disclosures and they still dominate us! Why?! How can this be?!

I imagine his head hurting as he just can't process why his store isn't number one. In reality, he's probably just trying to stay in the limelight since any publicity is good publicity for Epic. Today's currency is attention sad to say.

[–] Bougie_Birdie@piefed.blahaj.zone 182 points 3 days ago (5 children)

He calls it an "anti-technology smear campaign", and claims that it's akin to Valve forcing developers to list their political affiliation, i.e. whether they vote Republican or Democrat

Billionaires and false equivalencies, name a more iconic duo

I mean, if we're going to compare apples and oranges, how about with a metaphor that makes sense? Like how if you sell food you have to list the ingredients used

[–] soratoyuki@piefed.zip 75 points 3 days ago

I would very much like to filter developers by affiliation and not give fascists money, actually. Thanks for the idea, good guy, Tim Sweeney.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 81 points 3 days ago

Also, I would honestly cheer if valve made all the companies disclose campaign donations..

Does everyone remember how Steam banned NFT games and Epic allowed them and how that absolutely catapulted them into success over their competitor? ... no?

OK, well, but maybe this time?

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

No one gives a shit what he thinks.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Isn't the entire Unreal Engine just AI slop at this point? Like the engine itself is now vibe coded?

Kinda the same with the new Unity? Might not be vibe coded itself, but they just redesigned it specifically so LLM agents can be plugged into it, right?

He is a great example of CEOs who would help their company image more if they never made themselves known.

More he talks the more insufferable he comes off and in return so does the company.

If it weren't for how he chose to make his personality so prominent, Epic would probably not be as hated among PC gamers.

Anyone who has Epic Games software installed on their personal device is an absolute moron at this point.

whats the problem with AI disclosures, its useful to know that a game uses AI(if the game opts in to put it,cause rarely i see games that use AI and dont put the disclosure idk if its policy)

Sweeney pretending this is about indie developers is hilarious.

A common big business tactic is "small business"-washing the anti-regulatory actions. I asked a few right-libertarians on what regulations stop someone to make the Windows killer, only one didn't block me, instead he came up with hypotheticals about a group of people working for free for someone until they get a working prototype, and said maybe there's one regulation that is so obscure he couldn't find in a few hours of googling(!).

[–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 47 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Can someone ask this dumb fuck if he's also this upset about ingredient labels on food?

News flash, Timmy: people want to know at least a little bit about how the sausage is made, otherwise we'd all be forced to eat Soylent Green by greedy, unethical capitalist billionaires like you.

Valve understands what the customer wants, Epic simply does not.

ROFL Given the vibe-coded disaster of the Epic Store on Linux, he has bigger things to be concerned about. Like fixing his own mess. By hand, with actual humans programming and resolving issues. Catching a vibe won't save Epic, real human effort will. What a loser.

AI disclosures are the compromise. If they're not contempt with the compromise, then AI may as well be gone from art creation.

Him complaining is all the proof we need that even he doesn't believe in his "fight".

Because he wants to be able to reap money from the ocean of slop games but he doesn't want his store to be the only one trying to hide the sloppiness of it.

Hey asshole, you've got your own store, and you can do whatever you want with it. But no, you can't expect to drag your competition with you at rock bottom because you think being better than you is unfair.
