You heard it first Ohio, your own party is against Vivek Ramaswamy because that's too many letters!

[–] MassiveSquid@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago

Too many foreign letters.

[–] RattlerSix@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Why does it look like he pooped the front of his pants?

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 1 points 3 hours ago

Because his poophole is pointing that way.

[–] NoxAstrum@lemmy.ca 6 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

It goes to show that they know full well who their audience is. They are actively manipulating the stupid. "We're trying desperately to appeal to the 'school bad, football good' morons. If only their pickup trucks could vote too."

[–] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago

Ahh yes, the CTE demographic...

[–] cardboard_chef@sh.itjust.works 7 points 12 hours ago

Imagine being this uncultured.

[–] halezinflames@lemmus.org 4 points 12 hours ago

Holy xenophobia from the right as usual

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

They’re so fucking dumb.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 9 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (1 children)

This response is so telling. Bluesky is fucking AWASH in comments like, "ha! how can anyone be this dumb?" "Has anyone ever been stupider?" "HEY, they said A when yesterday they said B!" Americans still refuse to look at what the far right is doing right in their faces.

This isn't stupidity, it's a intentional tactic. For MAGA, it's a sycophancy test. The more absurd the claim, the more useful the test. Believing it or agreeing with it is so far from the point. It's about ensuring the base continues to publicly demonstrate their willingness to abandon reality on command. "The more obvious bullshit we ask you to swallow or horrendous racism we can get you to defend, the more enthusiastically you will have to do it because you'd look SO WEAK choosing THIS spot to draw the line."

For the rest of you, it's a demoralization tactic. They're rubbing your nose in how ridiculous they can be and STILL be an electoral threat. They know their supporters won't abandon them, and they know that their opponents will do little more than express outrage, call them stupid on social media, and move on. "We can say absolutely anything, no matter how absurd, and you still have no choice but to treat us like legitimate opposition. What the fuck are you going to do about it?"

"The animals jump onto the solar panels and get fried," Trump says. Not because he's an idiot (which he IS, but that isn’t what’s on display here), but because the truth doesn't matter when you're not actually trying to convince anyone of anything. It isn't about persuasion, it's a demonstration of impunity. They're showing everyone listening that they can make a mockery of reality, demand that their followers applaud, and force everyone else to spend their time arguing about whether the fucking animals are actually getting fried.

I was actually referring to the base, not this guy specifically. I understand that the politicians and think tanks and pundits and entire conservative system know exactly what they’re doing. Totally agree with you on all points.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 minutes ago

The base knows too. They love how upsetting it is for the people they hate to watch them do this. Their willingness to debase themselves is fueled by spite.

[–] ATPA9@feddit.org 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I think Mohamed El-Sayed is fun to say. Idk why, just has a neat flow to it

[–] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

His full name actually makes me feel included; it's really not just Arabic names that are long, there are plenty of germanic surnames are quite lengthy with a double n 'mann'. It really builds up more recognition to me than to just here two short names like firstname otherfirstnamebutplural.

[–] Generica@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

Double plus good

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Michael Joseph Rogers? Why does he hide his name? Why is his name this weird? Joseph? It's not American name, it's middle-eastern one, and he tried to hide it? And Mike? What the hell is that, he was assigned Michael at birth, what right does he have to change it? What if kids will see it? Groomer, changing names like that.

[–] coffee_nutcase207@lemmy.world 8 points 20 hours ago

Basically, are you ignorant and racist? vote red.

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I can pronounce it despite never having studied Arabic. It's called being vaguely receptive to the people and concepts around you.

Reading a book once in a while instead of burning them helps quite a bit with understanding pronunciation.

[–] EvilHankVenture@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

It's not even that hard, I've seen names that took effort for my English and some high school Spanish speaking brain to pronounce and that's not one of them.

[–] chefdano3@lemmy.zip 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"hey voters, remember when racism was OK? Yeah me too. Vote for me."

Guaranteed to work on us. I bet my dad loves this asshole.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Trump sure seems to like assholes a lot these days.

[–] ArkanianOffshoot@feddit.org 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's because, like many American adults, this guy can only read at a fifth-grade level.

[–] matlag@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Pretty sure most 5th grader could read Abdul El Sayed right after the first time they're told how to pronounce it.

[–] boomzilla@programming.dev 1 points 5 hours ago

I met my 6 year old grandcousin on the weekend. He began primary school just 2 month ago. He told me they have a thing where a singer comes over to their school and sings in English an Japanese and the pupils have to repeat it without knowing what any word of that means in both of that languages. He could sing complete sentences in them. His pronunciation was really good and he didn't even know what it meant.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Remember when open racism would get you a ban from social media platforms?

Counter ad:

Mike Rogers? A name so generic it has definitely been the name of a pedophile. Are you sure it isn't the same Mike Rogers?

Vote Abdul El-sayed

I mean when the only thing of value you have to offer to the job is a shorter name, what else would you advertise on?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Well he's a Republican. So he can advertise being, or at least supporting, felons, rapists, pedophiles, and traitors. That'll get him staunch conservative support.

[–] Cherries@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's upsetting that the race is close. People are having a tough time choosing between "health care for everyone" and "I want you to fucking die".

[–] HurricaneLiz@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

I voted Sunday in Talarico's district, ostensibly for ppl who don't literally want me dead. We'll see how many actually get elected. Making massive assumptions based on clothing/hair the democrats are out in force for early voting

[–] redballooon@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

"The guy with the long name that's not Republican"

There I said it, even without touching it, you can do it as well, racists.

[–] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

I don't need to spell it, or pronounce it. I just need to recognize it on the ballot.

[–] ghostpony@infosec.pub 6 points 1 day ago

What this motherfucker is also saying is that if your name sounds like that, he’s not going to represent you and therefore you shouldn’t vote for him or have any expectations of representation. I don’t know if he’s thought this through, but his racism has probably overpowered any higher-level thinking capacity he might have.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 19 points 1 day ago

I mean to be realistic you can't expect the typical MAGA voter to have graduated 8th grade.

[–] HCSOThrowaway@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

That particular name isn't even a difficult name to pronounce for an American English speaker, so this is doubly dumb.

The only thing you're going to be off by - as I understand it - is the "h" in Rahman is more glottal-stop guttural than we're used to pronouncing. Everything else is standard American English phonemes.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

rather vote steve rogers

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago

Go Abdul. A vote for Abdul is finally a vote for the people!
