Not only can I pronounce it, it sounds cool.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 26 points 2 days ago

I'm willing to bet he's fine with just being called Abdul as well.

Go Abdul. A vote for Abdul is finally a vote for the people!

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Don't worry, in a few more weeks you can just call him Mr. Senator

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

[–] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I can spell "D" and I can spell "R" and I can spell "Fuck you Mike Rogers.".

[–] DjangoFett@lemmy.zip 99 points 2 days ago (9 children)

I'm more European than he is because all of my ancestors were traveling whores, apparently.

That said, I've no difficulty pronouncing his name. If you can't, that must make you one of the following; illiterate, lazy, stupid, or racist.

Any one of these should disqualify somebody whose job is to work for the people.

Aaand thats why americans only knowing english is a stereotype. The average person on earth speaks more than one language, its only in priviledged imperialist states like russia, usa, china and some poor monocultural countries that its normal to speak one language. Everywhere else you either learn em cause you need it, its prestige or because its good practice to be able to speak to others in their own language. There are many places in europe where knowing three or four languages are not unusual and lets not even talk about africa where there were entire trading tribes whos whole thing was knowing a bunch of languages.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

China and Russia are both large diverse countries where different people speak different languages ….. and the central government strongly encourages a common one. I wager you’re wrong about them

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Yeah but theyre all marginalized and only people who grew up with it speak it. Theres a difference between learning a language youre not related to in any capacity just because its culturally relevant or something and learning a language because youre born with it. There are extremely few second language nganasan, ket, komi, erzya, etc speakers who arent also part of the ethnic group. Thats why people learning languages like cree, navajo, nuxalk, etc as second languages as white americans just because they can is such a beautiful thing. Youre ancestors have taken so much from them but youre trying to make it right. Point is, the vast majority of white, orthodox russians only speak russian and maybe english.

Ironically, America is also much more linguistically rich than that person who doesn't live here is assuming.

Don't forget Boehner of yesteryear.

If you can learn how to pronounce all the Finnish, Polish, Czech, and Slovak last names in Michigan, names like this should be easy. There's not even a bunch of silent consonants in there!

That "nobody" is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Well they didn't get to the point of openly supporting felons, rapists, pedophiles, and traitors by being intelligent.

[–] crystalmathadept@lemmy.zip 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If you can say Benedict Cumberbach or Timothy Chalemet you can say his name. English has the sounds already there, you just don’t want to do it.

But I can't breathe with a mask on unless it is a clan rally.

You say that, but one Boomer parent and one Boomer in-law literally can't say words if it's not something they don't know and feel like saying.

Parent says a lot of stuff wrong. Just, like wrong from the start. No (diagnosed) learning disability, no reason. He has only once pronounced "Nintendo" with the first N, after maybe 30 minutes of coaching. Otherwise, always "Intendo" for no reason at all. He has a couple dozen words like this. That's it, not even that many.

I forget the word the in law was saying wrong, but we broke it down. It went like this:

IL: Pazelstroke, the Russian thing.

Me: Do you mean Perestroika?

IL: That's what I said.

Me: say it again.

IL: Pazelstroke

Me: No, it's Perestroika

IL: Yeah. Pazelstroke.

Me: Say pair

IL: pair

Me: uh

IL: uh

Me: stro

IL: stro

Me: ika

IL: ika

Me: now put each sound together

IL, struggling to think it through: Paz-el-stro-ke!

After writing all this out, I remember, it was Greek for "thank you," efharisto. She was saying "ear-easto."

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Maybe they just didn’t give an “f”

Its the polical equivalent of "look! Over there!" while he poisons your wine.

i have a three syllable last name that the average American can't pronounce, it's really not that hard. the average American also has the reading level of a 6th grader

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 44 points 2 days ago (2 children)

They’re even using their same old tired playbook from 20 years ago. Remind me again, did that work well against Barack Hussein Obama?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately, the racist playbook seems to be working really, really well for them right now. Let's see if that starts changing in a couple weeks.

“Mike Rogers” is also rather an odd name to a Native American too, so go back to your own country mate.

[–] Phil_in_here@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

His real name is Michael... like Michael Myers, so I guess vote for him if you want murder camps

[–] NoxAstrum@lemmy.ca 24 points 2 days ago

Choose freedom? Like the freedom to be charged for criticising data centres? That sort of freedom? How about the freedom to be executed in the street by law enforcement? I'll pass, I don't really want their freedom.

[–] joecitizen@piefed.ca 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

These people are exhausting.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Stupid people usually are.
