Perfect Halloween.... Yet I was stuck with a vacuum pump attached to my back not able to party 🀣😭

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago

Instead I was in bed by midnight and totally sober. I think I had more fun

Actually it was Daylight Saving Time on November 1 back in 2009 (17 years ago). It was a great night.

There is some weird loophole in Baltimore that allowed bars to stay open all night on new years eve, and the first year I lived there I didn't know about it. Was very confused when I left the bar and the sun was coming up.

Wait, you guys switch from 2 to 1? We switch from 3 to 2. Also on a different weekend, but I knew that already. This one is new to me.

[–] mr_satan@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We do 4 to 3 and we did it last weekend since this Sunday is already November.

[–] horsesaysweird@feddit.org 15 points 1 day ago

Time is one of those things that only exist to drive programmers crazy.

Imagine the time changing twice a year for no fucking reason πŸ˜‚

This message brought to you by a place that isn't bonkers

I was trying so hard to figure out why these tweets look weird, thinking maybe they were just fake tweets... Turns out these are "threads" from Threads and that's why they look weird, but ngl, I genuinely did not know anyone used Threads.

[–] Kanda@reddthat.com 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

As you can see, at least 2 people use Threads. Maybe it's kinda like the fediverse?

[–] AliOski@feddit.nl 1 points 1 hour ago

If I'm correct, you can literally federate your Lemmy instance with Threads. I don't know, I saw something like that. Really strange.

[–] Vespair@lemmy.zip 5 points 23 hours ago

:angryupvote:

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am surprised every time I get reminded that Threads exist. Yet I know therapist friends who get a ton of clients from posting on there.

[–] restingOface@quokk.au 54 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I bet a therapist could clean up on lemmy

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 46 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I’m a therapist πŸ‘€

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 44 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Big therapy is infiltrating our spaces!

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Never! I’m a small time progressive, neurodivergent therapist. I’m one of you!

That's great, I have a transference kink. Want to chat with me wearing nothing but house slippers and a clown nose? C'mon, I can sense that you want to.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

You kid, but I had someone get in touch with me through my contact form saying he has a fetish for therapist shoes and asking if I would be willing to sell my shoes to him. He was very polite about it.

[–] MrOtingocni@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

That's wild

Weak club that didn't go past 2

[–] volvoxvsmarla@sopuli.xyz 13 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Lol in Germany clubs have to get a special permit to allow the club to be open past 12 am on Halloween because November 1st you're not allowed to dance. Having a legal party that went after 12 am on Halloween was radical back when I was a teen

[–] winkerjadams@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Dancing is illegal in November??

[–] volvoxvsmarla@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Nah, just on November 1st since it is a religious holiday.

There are a couple more no-dance holidays, November 1st is just the one that started to become most noticeable because of the emerging Halloween parties in the 2000s

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 1 points 58 minutes ago

What happens if you dance on a nodance holiday?

[–] Actionschnils@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

"Southern Germany" - Hamburg, Berlin etc. dont care about All Hallows Day

Aaand this is how I learned tomorrow is daylight savings.

[–] Skipcast@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It was last week in Europe (or Nordic countries anyway, not sure how consistent it is tbh)

It's harmonized across the EU at least

I don't understand. Every Halloween there is a weekend before or after (well almost) where we in the US get another hour to drink at a bar. I did it for 15 years straight. And that was 15 years ago.

[–] qarbone@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago

I think the point is that it's happening on Halloween...
