Multiple stories are also fine!!!

Doesn't have to be one story.

Three summers back I was painting my house which is a miserable job especially because the walls of my house were deteriorating '70s pebble dash. Little rocks embedded in stucco kept falling out making a mess on the deck and getting stuck in vehicle tire grooves. The paint has kept them from sloughing off ever since. I went to a home hardware shop to get more paint since I underestimated how thirsty the walls would be. Dirty, overheated, and grumpy with my mind on the shitty task.

I was blasting Battle Beast in my silver 2011 Nissan Altima (yes the meme car) and apparently my parking job was so quick, immaculate, and confidently within the lines that I made a lady swoon. Or because a tall guy hopped out, who knows.

Out of the car I'm briskly walking towards the entrance across the sprawling baking-hot asphalt parking lot when she ran up behind to stop me and commented on my 1337 parking skillz. Now idk about you, but personally in my lived experience it's extremely rare to have a stranger approach you in a parking lot unless they're up to no good, begging, or mad at you for some reason.

So I immediately hedged because I figured the "compliment" was passive aggressive and maybe I just fucked up or something. I asked her if she was upset with me for some reason. She said no, and reiterated what she said which wasn't helpful and I figured that might also be sarcasm. So we stood there staring at each other as I ran back the last few minutes desperately trying to figure out what I did wrong. Eventually I blue screened and just said "okay" and turned around to continue my paint resupply mission, unsure how to handle the extremely awkward encounter with an admittedly attractive-looking woman, who in hindsight I think was being genuine.

We managed to run into each other indoors and both of us intensely avoided eye contact or saying anything further. Amazing.

About a decade ago, a conservative coworker asked me out after complaining about trans people in bathrooms and calling us predators.

I'm trans

[–] TheLeadenSea@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 minutes ago

I guess that's a compliment tha you pass at least? 😭😭😭

[–] lonefighter@sh.itjust.works 3 points 23 minutes ago

Work in EMS. Some guy tried to get my number while I was driving to the hospital with him in the passenger seat and my paramedic, his girlfriend, and sick baby in the back of the ambulance.

I was 15 years old and on a schooltrip to Berlin. We smoked some weed at the hostel and i got high as fuck. I stepped into the elevator to go to my room to chill and this girl from a different class followed me. In the elevator she straight up asked me if i would like to go to her bunk for some fun and i was like "nah, im too high for that right now." i was such a dumbass in my teens.

[–] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 1 points 10 minutes ago

Given that you were high, skipping that offer was the better choice

[–] DudeWhoYapsTooMuch@lemmy.world 2 points 47 minutes ago

Swing and a miss!! But hey, that was a good call.

I had a drunk sunburned warty redneck try to give me a ride in his pickup truck. We were riding the tram back to the Disney World parking lot. He was very loud and insistent, much to the horror of the rest of the high school marching band mates around us, but he left without incident before we had gotten back to our buses. Someone let me know after he left that his fly had been open the entire time.

It was a very confusing experience for 16 year old introverted (male) me.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 1 points 22 minutes ago

That scenario started out pretty bad, and it went downhill fast from there! Sheesh.

I had a stalker in high school. It really sucked, but because she was a girl and I was a guy, it was 'cute' not creepy or scary, but what was so much worse was how people reacted to it, for many friends/teachers they goaded it on. Even when she sent threatening letters to one of my girlfriends. She was the only one who didn't think it was cute...

My first lesson in how insanely sexist the vast majority of people are. If i had done to a girl the type of stuff she did to me, I'd have been jailed. It went on and off for over two years.

On the flip sided, years later, she wrote me a random email and apologized profusely and thanked me for not taking advantage of her. So at least she got some help I guess?

I've had other incidents with mentally unwell women harassing me during the rest of my life, but none as involved or protracted as that one.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 16 points 3 hours ago

Maybe not the worst, but I called into HP server tech support and the girl on the other end was chatty. I wasn’t too busy and she talked me up for nearly an hour and a half, at the end asking if I was single and lived near Michigan.

Good on her for shooting her shot.

So this is pretty dark. My cousin committed suicide and at his funeral his roommate was trying to flirt with me and asked me out. Not at the wake, at the actual funeral service.

The most generous reasoning I could come up with for him was that he was very upset and alone and wanted to be comforted but he sure didn't seem upset.

[–] Tower@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 hour ago

My cousin committed suicide. I got really horny as we were getting ready, so me and my wife fucked. 30 minutes later I was balling my eyes out.

Grief is weird.

[–] AskewLord@piefed.social 10 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

People meet at funerals, it's common. One of my sister's friends met her husband at a funeral 5 years ago.

Some guy speaking to me was a bit uncomfortable because he kept getting very close. The conversation seemed normal until he asked what I think of black people, which I thought was kind of weird. Only much later I realized he was hitting on me and he meant to ask if I'm physically attracted to him, a black guy. Nobody ever flirted with me before and I definitely didn't expect it from a guy so it was much later when I realized what happened

I was around 15 years old, in an anime convention, while waiting on queue and nervous, I started talking to the guy next to me, he was around 30-35. I don't remember the details but we ended up on the topic of the anime Kuroshitsuji for some reason, and while explaining something about that show or another anime (can't remember as it's been a long time) he grabbed my tshirt and pulled me close to him, like super close to his face.

It was ever so slightly awkward to be hit on by a guy with 20 years up on me, while not even giving him any indication that I wanted anything other than a normal small talk conversation, even if we were to ignore the age gap.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 18 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

I hope you got away ok. Creepy pedo move on his part.

[–] SlayersFan@lemmy.world 10 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

We were on a queue with 100+ other people, nothing crazy was gonna happen, I understand how a guy might be into someone younger and cuter, but one thing is that, and another way different is to act on such an impulse, ignoring all common sense.

Not defending pedos cause they are creepy as fuck, met my fair share on IRC back in the day, but you have to be a special kind of person not only to be into kids, but to openly put your hands on someone in a completely public space where everyone is actively seeing what you are doing.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 7 points 3 hours ago

Agreed. Putting hands on anyone without permission is bad enough. Context here makes it that much worse.

[–] BurgerBaron@quokk.au 8 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Common (anime) convention experience I'm sure. When I was 15 years younger, they hosted an anime convention at a local college and attendees would rent the dorm rooms during the summer. After official events for the evening ended, the DJ kept going in a dorm study room. Every stereotype occurred. Rank B.O. in a room too small and not ventilated for the amount of people in it at 2AM with underage girls trying to get picked up by any guy willing to cross that line. Fucking gross 🀒.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 9 points 3 hours ago

There were girls back in my youth, the 80s and 90s, who legit believed an older guy hitting on them was a mark of their maturity.

I’d like to think that died alongside smoking indoors, but clearly not. It’s men who are censured by women their own age because they lack that much value and appeal as an individual. They’re looking for someone too new at life to see them.

[–] fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net 16 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

For me basically any time and place because I’m an idiot and do not understand when a woman is flirting with me. Except the one time I DID realize a girl was flirting with me but I was already in a relationship.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 2 hours ago

My wife apparently was cat calling to me at a con with her friend. Seeing two cute girls being bawdy I of course thought it was to someone else. We met and talked later but I did not know about the cat calls or put the thing together until she explained it to me after we were dating.

There was an ex-friend whom would always follow me around, and before a quiz I had been studying for days by doing programming exercises, while he played on his phone or scrolled TikTok.

He tried confessing after bragging how he didn't get caught cheating using AI on the test (as many were), right after I used like 100% of my brainpower to do what I could on that test. I could only reject him and was not able to give my full reasoning as to why I couldn't enter into a relationship as I had to enter a bus because we were at the bus stop.

Some weeks later he started not giving a shit about me, started doing this weird thing where he would wait for me to finish a quiz before passing his own and then he'll try to walk fast ahead in front of me and not stopping to talk as we did, when it started getting clear I wouldn't get into a relationship. Unfriended me on facebook and I never saw him after the end of the school.

'twas fucking horrible, when I already told him I had trauma from being suddenly abandoned by my friends. I only wish I never knew him at all, what a waste of time and I never learned anything, only had my trauma reinforced. I have never felt so much hatred and loathing in my life, and I understood why Dante put the sin of being a traitor at the lowest circle of hell.

[–] arak@lemmy.today -3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

This is a pretty standard reaction to your friendzoning. Guys are friendly to get to start a relationship, no relationship means no more effort, they are done.

[–] XiELEd@piefed.social 2 points 2 hours ago

Coward he also is. He also tried to ask me out on what obviously is a date but tried to make it seem like it wasn't. I would never want to be in a romantic relationship with deceptive and dishonourable people. It made me wonder why I allow myself to be friends with them in the first place.

Two come to mind.

I was twelve, but most people thought I was ~16 due to my height and the fact that I had hit puberty at 10, so I was definitely developed. As I am walking home (three mile walk to school) a highschool girl sees me, quickly crosses the street and begins to chat me up. After a few minutes she finally asks what grade I was in. After I told her, she went quiet and quickly picked up her pace, eventually crossing the street again. I still find that funny.

The second was in 2010, during my grandmothers wake. I did not find that funny.

I was in the kiddie psych ward once when I was 12. The place was empty except for me and this girl. She sat next to me and was talking to me and touching me when I was in really a totally awful state.

After I got out of the kiddie psych ward I was mandated to go to therapy every week. In the waiting room of the place was girl who knew my name from me being called in and kept trying to talk to me and touch me meanwhile I was in no mood because those therapy sessions were awful and I dreaded them.

I don't have too many stories of being hit on in weird places? I guess the closest one I have was from a guy on an anonymous chatting site thingy (sorta like omegle, but that one was less cancerous). Anywho, it was a guy I talked to for a while, mostly about our respective countries and whatever, and then he went full "I think you're my soulmate, and I really want to meet you" on me. I mean I basically just said 1. we just met, and 2. We've barely met at all, we know nothing about each other. But he just kept going x3. Eventually I just said I needed to go, and dipped the fuck out of that convo
