Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

It's weird because the day before we turned the clocks back, 5:27 p.m. was not that dark. Next day, 5:27 p.m. is dark as midnight, yup this comic is accurate.

Oh yes and add to that a fucked sleep pattern for at least a week.

I really hope this nonsense ends some day. I don't even care if it's summer or wintertime just stop switching.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 2 points 1 day ago

My sleep has been amazing since the switch. Go to bed tired because it feels like I stayed up an extra hour, wake up an hour early because my biological clock thinks it's time to get up and then get to chill and take my time getting ready in the morning. It's nice. The spring one on the other hand...

This ^^^

The EU were well on the way to agreeing to stop this nonsense, then it got delayed, Brexit happened (so whether it would still have happened in the UK is anybody's guess), and COVID hit. I don't think it has been mentioned since.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was so excited for that change to rock in. Fucking Brexit. :(

[–] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 day ago (4 children)

it has nothing to do with brexit.

the eu somehow unilaterally decided to do it and stop the time switching - that has been agreed on. and now the only thing that is left is for 27 countries to agree on which time to keep... πŸ˜‚

which will never happen and i am glad for that. i like these long summer evenings where you can do stuff and that is what would probably be canceled.

doing it otherwise and keeping the summer time for all year would mean that the daylight in winter would start at 9am, contrary to today's 8am, which would be terrible for out biorhytms (or so do biologists specializing in this area say)

They always try to keep the summer time, and everyone is happy until winter, when people get so upset at waking before dawn they inevitably return to the daylight savings system

It does have to be permanent winter time, this has been studied and has clear results

[–] bold_omi@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

This is, in large part, due to the shortening of the length of days.

It's weird being in the southern hemisphere. We just recently changed to summer time.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Around the equator, there's no daylight saving time. It's also dark every day year round at 6 pm. The only way to prevent early darkness is to go live in the Southern Hemisphere for winter.

Idk, i think 12h of daylight every day would be nice...we hit something like 7h of daylight where I live during winter. And we don't even have snow or anything to make it nice, we just have a gray wet depressing mess of winters.

The night time is the right time

[–] ekZepp@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah. Imagin go to work at the sunrise and go home when the sun is already set. Yuppy!!!

I reallly don't get why do many people dislike the dark. It's nice at night!

It's not like y'all are doing shit outside in the daylight this time of year anyway.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 8 points 1 day ago

Just cause you aren't doesn't mean the rest of us aren't.

It's going to be sunny and 60Β° F this week for me - and those temps will be late afternoon - 4pm till sunset.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip -1 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Hah ha yeah 5pm, definitely not 3pm. Who needs more than 6 hours of sunlight anyways.

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Norra Norrland in January is lit - no wait, the opposite of lit, but in a good way.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Idk i love summer here but im just not built for the winter here. It doesnt even get really cold but theres so little daylight. Thats why i might move to canada cause its much less northern, has colder winters and hotter summers. Those are all wins for me.

could be worse, could be stuck on daylight time

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Standard time is where most human circadian rhythms naturally land, so yeah.
