That's pretty ridiculous. For some it might be still a great option, staying clear of Google hardware and true hardened security for jobs where you need it. But they really plan to sell it as if it were made from gold.

[–] sonstwas@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Yea I can see it being mostly bought by companies (or drug lords) but for normal persons I don't think many can justify the price...

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I think rather of journalists, dissidents who can afford it etc.

[–] ItsNotImportant24@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 hours ago

Yep, I've been saying this. They are now slowly putting GOS out of reach for many. Pixels are slowly being locked down by Google to where GOS won't be able to be installed on newer models, so the only option left will be these ridiculously priced Motorola's or old Pixels that won't be supported much longer. Really makes you wonder what is truly going on with GOS now.

True hardware costs in 2026 without residuals from advertisers

[–] jaxxed@lemmy.world 49 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Motherfuckers. I would have paid 1k - but that is ridiculous

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago (4 children)

I have a pixel 10 with 16gb RAM. Nothing has made changing realistic and likely wont for awhile. I hate AI and only wantgOS and a decent camera.

Oh my damn. I expected something expensive, but this is just way above what I expected.

The Graphene developers did say that future plans could entail even broader Motorola support from GrapheneOS, for cheaper models too. Let's hope this will be the case…

Personally, I already balked at the size of the screen (~6.8"). The ridiculous price is just the final nail in the coffin.

Mini tablets were 7 inches.

It's ridiculous; how am I meant to fit something half the size of my dick in my pocket?

Maybe they will have some insane incentives with the providers?
And wasn't one or more coming with Graphene?

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

that cost more than my car lmfao pass

can't wait to see this thing flop and sell 99% android only to rich fucks who don't care, and then Motorola say "oops look like Graphene sucks, ending partnership bye"

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 6 hours ago (7 children)

$1900 and still no headphone jack.

Whoops, I figured this was the usual thing where people in Europe get screwed by paying the euro amount for what we pay in dollars (e.g. where we pay $500 and they pay €500 for the same product). Either way, for $1600 they could have at least included a headphone jack. I would have been very, very tempted despite the price to have GrapheneOS and a headphone jack again.

Yah... Thats too much, if they cut that in half I would ignore it not being up to the repairability standards of fairphone, but if I cant expect that device to last 10 years then ill just wait for the next one...

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 21 points 5 hours ago

welp refurbished pixel it is then

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 13 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

[–] phraktalz@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago
