I want to make a playlist with some livesets, these are usually an hour. I have added these into a playlist and I cannot for the life of me stop YouTube from continuing halfway where I once stopped some of them.

Starting from the beginning and letting it play for 10 seconds, pressing on the timeline at the start a few times. Nothing works.

At this point disabling the option of automatic saving / continuing is fine but I can't find and options whatsoever.

Am I dumb or is YouTube just stupid?

Yes, YouTube is absolute shit without extensions.

[–] Berttheduck@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 months ago (4 children)

Can I ask what you recommend? I just have the standard add block and sponsor block running which definitely helps but the user experience could definitely be better.

[–] iamdefinitelyoverthirteen@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Enhancer for YouTube is the best. Next get YouTube Search Fixer so your searches only show search results instead of previously viewed, For You, and all the other garbage that you have to sift through. Shorts Block is also nice, but I think enhancer also does this.

thats a new one, i usually just use ublock origin.

I also use UBO, but just listed my YouTube specific addons.

[–] PodPerson@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 months ago

Ublock origin with the shorts/extras/games/bullshit filters.

[–] sleepmode@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Sponsorblock. Shorts blocker. UBlock Origin. Multiple Container tabs and stick it in its own container.

If you have an Android phone, use ReVanced to patch the YouTube app.

If you have an Android TV, use SmartTube.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

When I watch YouTube, which isn't often, I use Firefox on Android instead of the app. Ublock seems to kill all the ads, still

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 2 points 3 months ago

Yes, but ReVanced also skips sponsorships embedded in videos. You can also do that on Firefox by installing SponsorBlock.

Youtube is actual trash and we have modern designers and businessmen to blame.

Youtube has been intentionally made worse year over year for the last 12-15 years. Nobody knows exactly why. But it has been.

Youtube has been an innovator in enshitification since before that term existed.

Youtube has been intentionally made worse year over year for the last 12-15 years. Nobody knows exactly why. But it has been.

This is the behaviour of a monopoly. There is no better alternative so people stick with it and Google knows it. Why improve when you have no competition?

[–] EndlessNightmare@reddthat.com 5 points 3 months ago

Textbook enshittification

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

ADS, thats why they laid of moderating questionable content as well. couldnt get enough revenue on youtube side, so they have to enshitify thier android side too.

Probably is..

I don't use this plugin myself, but if you're using Firefox, you might take a look at it, as it provides a bunch of browser-side configurability. I don't know whether the feature you're looking for is there, but as far as I can tell, it aims to be a pretty large bucket of pretty much every add-on YouTube feature one might want.

I was looking at it a while back for something unrelated, a UI tweak that I was hoping that it might do.

[–] HC4L@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

This was it! Thanks, amazing that something so simple needs a seperate plugin. You saved the night.

This can probably also disable the mini PiP player so I can die a happy dude.. :)

[–] thisorthatorwhatever@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

It's getting bad. Almost unwatchable now. Google is screwed.

[–] Bongles@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There was always the joke about watching one video and your feed being filled with that type of video, but it’s genuinely that bad now. And if you dare to watch a second one you’re done for.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

You got to go into history and remove it. Its annoying but it works well.

Also keep in mind that hovering over a video and watching more than a few seconds adds it to your history and thus yt suggestions

[–] thisorthatorwhatever@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I'll watch one video of someone I like. Randomly another video starts playing right after, before I have a chance to click away, my feed degenerates into some crazy slop.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 months ago

I think pausing your watch history will accomplish this, but then of course your watch history will be paused.

[–] daniskarma@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 months ago

I noticed years ago that youtube search give up after like 10 results and then just spits up the generic algorithm recommendations.

[–] Kissaki@feddit.org 5 points 3 months ago

I suspect if you disabled watch history it won't remember. You can also selectively remove videos from your watch history. I'm not sure if there are separate settings for watch history and timestamp.

Playing just a few seconds may not be enough. Two minutes should be. So it determines you're actually intending to watch where you are (at the beginning).

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 3 months ago

It could be both 🤷‍♂️

(Clear your cache and it should fix your issue)

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

Corporate enshittification for 16 years will do that

[–] winni@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

unfortunately you're not

[–] tomjuggler@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Haven't tried the YouTube app for years, but watch the content all the time - using newpipe/pipepipe and freetube/Kodi. I usually just "subscribe" to a few channels and stick to those

[–] nutsack@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 months ago

it skips to somewhere in the middle because it thinks you're more likely to stay on the video if it starts there
