During the arrests, border patrol agents reportedly lined the 44 firefighters up and ordered them to produce identification, according to The Seattle Times, with crew members telling how they were not allowed to film the encounter.

Why aren't American citizens allowed to use their First Amendment right to record activities in public?

Because the US is a fascist-controlled state now, which means that Wilhoit's Law is in effect:

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition ... There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”

How did 44 firefighters accept this? Where were thier other truck mates?

[–] TownhouseGloryHole@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

They're wildland firefighters. They hike or fly in and camp for sometimes weeks at a time. Generally they have very little beyond shovels and survival tools to defend themselves in that situation.

Ok, we have to draw a strong line here.
Firefighters are one of the only categories that are universally agreed upon across every spectrum as a good force of humanity.
This level of evil is redefining too much

Not MAGA they are not. My dad hates fire fighters and says taxes should not pay for them. I don't know why he loathe them but he brought it up a few times. I am sure sone right wing shit he listens to today told him so.

What an ass, he should fry the turkey indoors this year

And remember: the skin will never crisp right unless you drop the bird in still frozen!

Hope he likes expensive homeowners premiums. That's what you get without a good local fire department.

Damn, someone hurl a molotov cocktail right quick.

Ok, I guess it doesn't carry across cult spectrums, but isn't that almost the rule for cults?

Is Crassus your neighbor?

I really want to see states like Washington harness their state troopers to track down and "block" ice, or protect their constituents.

But maybe thts just came I live in a currently Red state (VA) that is working with ICE.

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 4 days ago (7 children)

Why would ICE arrest firefighters in the line of duty?

Are they stupid?

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 45 points 4 days ago

Yes. Yes, they are.

[–] don@lemmy.ca 31 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I’d imagine from their perspective that it’s a perfect time to strike: they’re in a known location, can be gotten to, and are busy trying to prevent forests from burning and people from dying. What’s ICE gonna do, just not be mindless fucking ghouls?

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago

I guess fires are woke now cause of climate change

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago

Are they stupid?

Probably

Although part of the issue is Trump pushing to find "illegals" that don't exist

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Because they can. It’s that simple

[–] Infrapink@thebrainbin.org 2 points 3 days ago

Perhaps.

But the ICE agents on the ground are just following orders™. You know, like the OG Nazis.
