I’m stealing this! Respectfully.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 61 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I hate when they delete stuff, like... do you want conspiracy theories to spread? Because that's how conspiracy theories spread.

[–] zrst@lemmy.cif.su 46 points 3 months ago (2 children)

It's all about controlling how people see the world.

If we're only exposed to "disney, safe for china" media, then that's all people will think the world consists of.

They (people richer than us) don't want us seeing the reality of guns, only their carefully curated fantasies.

[–] Glitchvid@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I agree with this viscerally.

A lot of people are expressing sympathy for the people in the Kirk crowd, but honestly I think it might be a good thing for them — to see first hand what Kirk and the Republican rhetoric is actually advocating for. Maybe it'll snap them out of the fantasies they have of culling "undesirables".

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

If they are mentally capable of making the connection between the things he advocated for, and those things happening directly to him.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

My guess: they'll use this as their latest example of the "violent left" without evidence, as is tradition

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Yeah this is widely applied. From ag-gag laws that hide the brutality of animal torture/murder to the killing of journalists in palestine. ETC.

People in the imperial core are constantly shielded from the reality of their "culture".

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

the problem is that due to the algorithmic nature of social media it ends up getting pushed to people who don't want to see it.

Release the Trump/Epstein files

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 38 points 3 months ago

Because censorship of topical newsworthy events is antithetical to freedom. Sure first the censorship will start with "gruesome" but it won't stop there, let people opt out, but it shouldn't be scrubbed from existence.

[–] livejamie@lemmy.zip 33 points 3 months ago

In this case, he said the video of Kirk’s death is newsworthy given the fact that he is a public figure who was killed at a public event.

Saved you a click.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 27 points 3 months ago (2 children)

It's still up, in some places.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I found it on wikipedia of all places

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Why not? It seems like an appropriate place.

[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They had a whole edit war about whether it should be included and locked the article.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)
[–] antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Looks like they've decided against inclusion. It's also unlikely the video meets "fair use" standards so they'd have to delete it anyway...

Soon only the dark web will have it.
I mean, I don't like seeing that shit,
but I also don't like living in make-belief land
where the horrors of life are kept hidden
by our "well-meaning" overlords

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Incite further right wing rage?

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 months ago

"Fighting hortler will only make him more angry..."

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 3 months ago (3 children)

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Yeah, no desire to see it myself. I was on the fence about reporting a still shot I saw on IG. Don't suppress but don't advertise.

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I hadn't watched it till now.. yuck!

but probably something anyone that wants to talk about this should see

but it got me thinking, I think the shooter was aiming for his mouth and the drift made the shot hit a little lower

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

He seems an adept shooter. I'd bet he was aiming for center mass like a good little sniper. But one can hardly ask the local range if he can practice from their sloping roof out to 250 yards.

[–] peaceful_world_view@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

It's even funnier now we know the shooter was a right wing gun nut.

It’s very gruesome. I was not prepared.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Which is odd you know? I thought "meh I've seen some sick shit" but nope. One minute he's a racist accelerationist bigot and the next moment he still is but his brain is clearly whack and blood is rushing down his neck.

Movies and videogames don't come remotely close to representing it accurately

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I’ve even see other videos of people getting killed before, and they were not this bad. Not often; I’m not someone who generally seeks that stuff out. Maybe it’s because of the bright lighting, high clarity, and comparatively high resolution of this one, combined with a gunshot wound that had very gory and visible results.

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

I think what gets people about this one is the large amount of blood that comes from severing a major artery like that and it funneling out through such a focused point followed by how quickly he reacts, goes into shock, then goes limp.

Most gore people get to see, even the real stuff, is much more initially destructive. So the blood goes everywhere all at once and there is very little time or ability to see the immediate reaction of the injured person.

For me, most of the worst stuff I've seen that is not tv/movie make believe that was the most unsettling had very little gore in the traditional sense. It was the reaction of the person that got injured that made it unsettling and the slow realization they make of what happened and is currently happening. There is a much more calm yet panicked tone to it than someone getting ran over by a tank or their head cut off by a terrorist.

For me it's mostly how the body reacts to the bullet, the hands going up a little Ina reflex, but you can see he's already lost control of his body. That part is always what gets me

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

Yeah that was unexpected and really fucked me up mentally.

[–] source_of_truth@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Meh. I guess I've watched too many Russians getting merked in Ukraine.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (5 children)

Meh. Not that bad. Glad to see dude go.

Zios are murdering kds and their whole families every day. That's something that's actually gruesome.

It's news and the adults in the room have not just a right but a responsibility to remain informed.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Because very few people are really outraged about a malfunctioning human getting deleted.
