Lmao good luck idiots. Already tried it with alcohol, then with weed. How'd those work out? Porn isn't even tangible.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 120 points 3 months ago (2 children)

It doesn't need to be absolute in success, it just needs to be applied arbitrarily to further abuse out-groups.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago (3 children)

which will also have the opposite of their intended effect and create more crime via black markets, trafficking etc.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 53 points 3 months ago

No, that is the intended effect. Their enemies will become criminals, which means they can arrest them and use them to justify further state power.

[–] vividspecter@aussie.zone 14 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

They don't care about crime at all, it's just a dogwhistle for black and brown people. If anything, this is a benefit because it means they can inflict harm on more people they don't like during the "crackdown".

[–] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 8 points 3 months ago

You mean "stated effect", which you should know by now is almost always a lie, like when a politician's lips move.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 10 points 3 months ago

If I'm not wrong that was the whole point of criminalizing weed.

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 months ago

It'd make being transgender inherently pornographic, possibly allowing them to harass, abuse, and roundup trans people.

They're banning explicit manga AND erotica? Gooners, you gotta rise up and save the Michigan fujoshis and fudanshi!

In all seriousness, the real reason is clear, conservatives love telling on themselves:

Schriver's bill also has a transphobic component. If adopted into law, the act includes prohibitions on material that "includes a disconnection between biology and gender by an individual of one biological sex imitating, depicting, or representing himself or herself to be of the other biological sex."

~~Someone in the Michigan legislature got caught being too into femboys or something similarly stupid, probably.~~

I mean, this is the same guy that wants to criminalize homosexuality so that's on brand.

[–] EndOfLine@lemmy.world 77 points 3 months ago (6 children)

From the bill:

"Pornographic material" includes any content, digital, streamed, or otherwise distributed on the internet, the primary purpose of which is to sexually arouse or gratify, including videos, erotica, magazines, stories, manga, material generated by artificial intelligence, live feeds, or sound clips.

Soooo they want stronger plot lines in their porn? Is that what I'm hearing? Something that they can sit down and watch with the family?

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I thought that's what softcore porn is for.

[–] BreakerSwitch@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

In case it wasn't clear to everyone, the end goal here is not banning porn, but to classify being gay, trans, etc, as sexually arousing and ban any speech by anyone in those groups, followed by banning those groups.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Am I missing something or can you just get around this by not having it on the Internet? Like you could just start shuffling a bunch of flash drives around.

[–] qwerty@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 3 months ago (2 children)

It says that the content can't be digital, you'd have to use video tapes or other analog medium.

[–] Electricblush@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

Somebody trying to increase the value of their extensive VHS collection? 🤔

The GOP really thinks there won't be any more elections, don't they?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago (2 children)

At the speed at which this is happening, there won't be, and I'm not joking.

No one is coming to save us.

Arm up. Train. Help everyone you can arm up and train. Form networks and use encrypted messaging apps to communicate.

I'm not going to pretend like I know how this will play out, but the one thing I know is that our federal government has been captured by literal fascists and they're going to dial this up to 11 and see what happens. Maybe they simply don't have enough national support to really pull it off. Maybe they do. I do know that you don't want to be unprepared if they do.

It can happen here. We never thought we'd be where are are right now. But we are.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There will be elections. They'll just be sham elections in the places where they're overseen by Republicans.

American Taliban.

Simple as that.

Domestic terrorists who typically look unkempt and dirty, attempting to oppress others.

American Taliban.

As a relatively recent country (by European standards), USA did not go through the Middle Age. I guess this is it. Enjoy the public burnings of heretics.

Eight states have ID verification laws.

Oklahoma has tried several times to make viewing porn a felony.

Everyone laughing this off as impossible is not taking this seriously enough.

Well we know they won't ban grindr....

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago (3 children)

GOP projecting again. Sounds like the party has a porn addiction!

[–] ganryuu@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I see it more as a step towards banning a ton of content they don't like by claiming they are porn, or porn-adjacent (for example any LGBTQ+ content)

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 14 points 3 months ago

It was literally outlined as this in Project2025, ban porn then define speech you want to suppress (primarily LGBT but also women's health) as porn.

[–] bytesonbike@discuss.online 10 points 3 months ago

Just came to say this.

Check this dude's hard drive for petabytes of porn.

While they all install VPNs for themselves.

[–] dontpanic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 3 months ago (5 children)

This won’t pass (not now anyway) but it’s funny they want to ban the bible. Or they’re too dumb to realize that implication.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

What's "funny" is that you think they give a shit about consistency.

Of course this will not include the Bible

[–] dontpanic@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Don’t worry, I don’t actually think that at all. I’m one of the people who expects to be thrown in a ‘camp’ within the next couple years. I’m one of the people who’s been saying this kind of shit was coming for most of my life.

If they removed porn from the internet, the next day there would only be one website called 'BringBackAllthePorn.com'"

Dr. Cox

VPN companies hearing the distant cha-chinging of cash registers.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like a declaration of war.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 48 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

All of project 2025 is the fascist declaration of war. When the heritage foundation architect said "the revolution will be bloodless, if the left allow it" he meant they will murder everyone who opposes their Christian fascist dictatorship. Everything left of fascism is "the left".

[–] njordomir@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They're just making a market for someone to compile a 1TB "Best of the Best Cumpilation", copy it to a handful of cheap terrabyte drives and resell them (to legal adults) in a verification state.

  • This comment should not be read as condoning copyright infringement, but rather as a commentary pointing out that prohibition instantly creates very easy to serve and lucrative black markets that will be filled by someone.
[–] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 10 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Hello, I am here to condone copyright infrigement and advocate for the abolition of the intellectual property regime and the criminalization of pro-copyright advocacy for they are enclosers of culture and therefore the enemy of humanity and should be ground into a fine powder.

Also, abolish Michigan !

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

If they think the illegal drug trade is bad, let's think about the illegal sex trade!.....wait....

[–] WaitThisIsntReddit@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

I'm going to jerk off to this attempt to ban porn.

[–] daggermoon@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Yeah that ain't passing in Michigan.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Which is already illegal, which they know. It’s not about the porn. It’s about seeing what they can get away with.
