A bit older but something I didn't see until now showing how US Republicans are just the worst and the dumbestas Canadian tourism is DOA.

Republicans. If they aren't threatening to secede from the United States, they're pretending that everyone else wants to join the United States.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 29 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Republicans: is there anything they’re not hypocritical about?

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

If they didn't have hipocrisy, there would only be blessed scilence.

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 42 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

Not sure this guy understands that if that actually happened, no Republican would ever win the presidency again, and the House and Senate would instantly flip to the Democrats.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 22 points 3 weeks ago

Not sure this guy understands

That's far enough.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 11 points 3 weeks ago

Don't threaten me with a good time, eh?!

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Cute of you to assume “Canada” would be given states rights. No no no my friend. At worst we’d be a Guam, or a Puerto Rico. With no political power whatsoever. At best, we’d be a neverending insurgency fought in the tree line.

[–] SGforce@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 weeks ago

Did that tree just call me a hoser?

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I'm Canadian and I'm not confident most Canadians would vote democrat

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

That's disheartening. I've been under the impression that even most of your conservatives generally find Republicans to be completely cuckoo. Is that not the case?

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's becoming less and less the case I think, but we rejected their politics in the voting booth, so time will tell

[–] Typhoon@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

we rejected their politics in the voting booth

This time. Polls last fall had PP set to win. Then Trump came along and we rejected it all. But now Carney, who rode to a win on "elbows up" appears to be putting his elbows down and is caving to Trump. I don't expect he'll win a second time.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah, it's not encouraging, I'm starting to get my shit together for the inevitable rise of evangelistic corporate terrorism in Canada

Not voting Democrat doesn't automatically mean yes voting Republican, after all, more parties are legally allowed...right?

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Unfortunately, we have a first-past-the-post election system in most of the country (a very few places have ranked-choice). What that means is that most of the time, voting for anyone besides a Democrat or a Republican amounts to throwing your vote away.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Kang or Kudos.

[–] Horsey@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

MB would be a swing state that leans left, SK would be 55:45 R, AB would be 70:30 R, ON would be a bellwether swing state like NY was for centuries. QC, the coastals, and the Arctics would be blue states.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

I mostly agree but I’d say AB would be closer to 90:10 R. I’ve got family and friends there and it’s very conservative. I don’t actually know a single liberal Albertan.

The rest is spot on though.

[–] Horsey@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

For context, we don’t have a single state that is 80:20 R. WV/WY are the closest we have, and even then it’s basically 70:30.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The most recent federal election here was 92% conservative in Alberta

You clearly don't know anyone from the capital city.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

~20% would vote Trump, about 95% of Alberta.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

And America would start winning a lot more Hockey tournaments.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh I think you are way too optimistic.

[–] sparcipx@lemmy.ml 23 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Speaking as a Manitoban, “Fuck the fuck off.”

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe this is some sort of US government plan to make it so Americans wont be allowed to flee to Canada. Its like the Handmaid's tale only if we make it over the river into Canada the Canadian border patrol will grab us and toss us back onto US soil.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 17 points 3 weeks ago

I counter offer. Fuck off and go salute your fascist, child rapist felon rump. After the violence that ice has been doing to every day people while most of you americans sit around watching youtube and twitch while regular people are being murdered by their own makes me ill. Well there is a couple of things the average american does well. Apathy and avarice.

[–] DreamAccountant@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

Keep track of the Canadians going to America for fun while fascists rule.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago

These people are idiots.

[–] TheJesusaurus@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 weeks ago

Hey buddy, why don't you make like a tree and fuck off

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Any US state would be lucky to be invited to join Canada instead. For the poutine and less war crimes alone.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Less war crimes these days.

Those sap sucking, puck slapping, monsters of the north INVENTED war crimes!

Would you like another tin of beans?

[–] verdi@feddit.org 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I think we should stop calling them republicans and call them what they really are. Confederates!

I was more pissed off when I saw this 2 months ago, less so when I saw it again last month. I'm not saying it shouldn't be posted, but this is a repost and old news. At least highlight the date in the submission.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago

Kindly get fucked, eh

I would assume that he just wants friction. If he wants to generate an actual international incident, he should try to get a bunch of wackjobs out of Maine to go sit on Macchias Seal Island. That's the subject of an actual, unresolved US/Canadian territorial dispute, so from a US federal standpoint, Maine has a right to do whatever it wants there. Canada, in turn, has a history of aiming to establish a precedent of its authority over it and I expect isn't going to ignore a bunch of right-wingers out of the US setting up camp there.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

I saw a documentary about a group that tried this during Trump’s first term in office.

The locals just referred to them as whacko American tourists, sold them kitsch, and otherwise left them alone, other than for the Canadian locals to politely refuse them entry to Canadian or environmentally restricted areas and facilities.

The locals (both Canadian and American) figured eventually some nutjob from away would make a bigger stink, but until then, they saw things as relatively in hand.

I’m surprised Noem hasn’t showed up there yet, like she did to the library that straddles the border.

File an international arrest order for insurrection. Maybe he'll never leave the hole he lives in, but if...

"Donny, look at me! Look, I did a thing, just like you! Surely this will get me an appreciative troot from you? Oh Donny, boost my career!"

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Hope the new guy wipes the GOP off the map in Maine. Look, I'm a weepy little bitch once you get a few beers in me, but first time I saw his campaign launch video, well, my face got wet, for... reasons. You'll see:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53bZ_95nDjk

Ah, fuck. Getting weepy again. Watch that video. You will want to scream and cry. I have no idea what party he's running under. And I don't care. GOP? No problem, I'd vote for that man no matter what.

My god, why can't the fucking Democrats get behind that message?! Campaigns would no longer be competitions.

I wonder how serious other countries will take American refugee status after we start WWIII over the currency crashing?
