Farmers across the United States say they could face financial ruin – unless there is a huge taxpayer-funded bail out to compensate for losses generated by Donald Trump’s sweeping cuts and chaotic tariffs.

Need that sweet, sweet socalism. Last time Trump chipped in some few billion tax dollars to help out the "welfare queen" farmers, I assume they think he will again as they go cap in hand amd tug thier forelock to m'lord ?

So taxpayers need to pay more for the product itself AND taxes to subsidize the farmers who are impacted by the tariffs?

I'm starting to think these tariffs weren't such a good idea!

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago

Correct, if they get a bailout, it will come from tariff money. This could mean almost all the money made on this will just go back to them anyway, which makes you ask the question... whyyyy.

It's not like this is even hypothetical. It literally happened during his last term! 92% was returned to the farmers during that bailout.

They are a great idea if you want to manipulate the stock market and do a little insider trading, until the rest of the world starts selling off your debt because they no longer hold your money in good faith anymore. <--we are here by the way.

Famers love welfare when its for them.

[–] 1995ToyotaCorolla@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

thousand acre welfare queens

[–] Pringles@lemm.ee 36 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can see how some tariffs might help us compete with Mexico but are we really getting targeted by every other country or are we on the wrong side of this?

Waw, just... I can't even...

[–] adub@programming.dev 14 points 1 week ago

Compete with Mexico? What are you a tomato or Avocado grower. I was fine with selling my Wheat to Mexico. I don't see why orange moron should steal from my business to line his and Tim Apple's pockets.

[–] BigMacHole@lemm.ee 33 points 1 week ago

This is FAKE NEWS because FARMERS Hate Socialism and would NEVER Ask for a SOCIALIST HANDOUT!

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago

help out the “welfare queen” farmers,

Which almost all went to corpo farms and shit like Nunes' single cow farm.

Thats where most of the $10,000,000,000 from last month went too

Consistently voted against their own interests, going so far as to harp on about climate change like it's a force they had no part in enabling with their opposition to climate policy.

Heads up champ, financial bankruptcy is the least of your concerns but at least you won't starve to death like your kids will because you destroyed the planet with your uneducated bullshit.

[–] StJohnMcCrae@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Is it really voting against their own interests if they know the person they're voting in will just take tax dollars from cities and divert it to them to make them whole again?

These Kulaks know what they're doing. They just don't realize where it leads. They think the czar will always be there to protect them.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

Their whole fucking lives have been a bailout

[–] Killer57@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 week ago

I honestly don't think they will get help this time. JD Vance is invested in AcreTrader and what's a better way to buy thousand's of acres for pennies on the dollar than to bankrupt farmers? And at the end of the day, I really don't think they deserve a bailout.

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 week ago

Biden was putting in programs to help them but they instead chose to vote for Trump who is bankrupting them so that his rich friends can buy up their properties for pennies on the dollar, if that.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 25 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Bailout money, even if approved, might not get to farmers in time before they go bankrupt due to induced government inefficiency. That's icing on the shit cake that the Trump administration has baked.

[–] jjagaimo@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's part of the plan to buy up farms and land for cheap when farmers go bankrupt

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think it is part of the plan, just that Trump and Musk don't care.

[–] jjagaimo@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Its certainly not their direct intention, but Trump just follows along with what his billionaire donors and advisors say, which is to destroy the economy and scoop up failing businesses at a cheap price to own more when the economy recovers. Its just how republicans operate. The tariffs are just an tool for destroying the economy and putting businesses under.

[–] T156@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It does make you wonder if it at least a little bit by design. You don't need to pay bailouts if the person who would be receiving them is no longer able to do so, and you are still approving them outright.

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

my county has more than half a million people but only 250k live in the big city, many of the voters are rural farmers

they dominate the federal races because they are reliable and loud. they also always vote Republican

It's a sad thing but they need this pain in a big way. Their cash cow is out of Congress and her replacement has only one bill in his name... stupid fucking idiot wants to dissolve the NCAA and make it federal.

LOL

fuck you

Time for some signs dude.

GOVERNMENT BAILOUTS ARE SOCIALISM!!!!!

[–] Quadhammer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

If they go ubder the good farms are going to be privatised

[–] Big_Boss_77@lemmynsfw.com 24 points 1 week ago
[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Let's just print out a trillion food stamps for these welfare queens.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But you can't buy MAGA hats and gold Trump coins with food stamps!

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Those you only get by giving blowies

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago

I assume they think he will again

not this year, maybe early next.. just in time to buy their votes at midterms.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago

if they dint learn from teh soybean tariffs, they wont learn anything here.

[–] GoodOleAmerika@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)
[–] nulluser@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

That's probably one of the goals. Small farms sell to either corporate farm companies, or billionaires.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

TO WHO? ~~Aqua~~ Dustman????

[–] ExtantHuman@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

So these dumb ducks voted for the exact thing that hurt them the last time...

[–] Rev3rze@feddit.nl 4 points 1 week ago

You'd think that farmers of all people would understand the concept of reaping what you sow...

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Lazy ass farmers just want bailouts. Fuck em.

[–] brax@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

They should consider planting bootstraps so they can pull up lots of them during the harvest.

[–] collapse_already@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

Sure you're broke, tariffs are wrecking the global economy, climate change is going to kill at least 5 billion people, etc, etc, but it is is all worth it because that one trans kid in Pennsylorida can't play badminton and will probably commit suicide and you can proudly wear your kkk gear in public again.

Maybe doge will do something funny like cut existing farm subsidies.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

It's all fuckin pointless. This is so good damn stupid.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I see a lot more Big Farm buying little farms and getting richer for it.

[–] Perhapsjustsniffit@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Some of your oligarchs are the largest farmland owners in the US.

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No bailouts. No "too big to fail". It's time for consequences to fall where they may.

[–] Enkers@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

It's time for Find Out, not Bail Out.

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

Zero dollars for these people.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did you say, "buyout"?

I hope not, because you won't be getting one of those either.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

No need to buy your farm from you when we can buy it from the auction cheaper.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

1930 tariffs made dust bowl worse, because there was less planting from less exports.

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 week ago

That didn't take long...

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

They were warned.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

Watch them get it and then praise Trump and MAGA again.

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Well that was fast.

[–] JeremyHuntQW12@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Why would Trump bother ? They'll still vote for him anyway. They're a miniscule proportion of the population anyway and politically irrelevant.
