America and Israel will vote against everything that is good for humanity.

There's a bunch more missing from this one, but given the style, it's probably okay

You're missing every other Western country "abstaining" because they're too embarrassed to vote no.

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 32 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm honestly not even sure why they used the "breathing" as hyperbole, because this is based on an actual vote where all the other western nations voted yes rather than abstaining. The vote is on making food a human right. Since food is just as necessary to live as breathing, all this "hyperbole" does is convince people that the US isn't actually this evil, which it literally is.

The difference is that air is not much of a commodity [yet].

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 14 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Depends on the vote. For example see the yearly "The US Blockade is illegal and immoral and should stop immediately" UN vote. Pretty much always just US and Israel. And lately Ukraine.

Edit: and one or two heavily US aligned tiny Island nations sometimes e.g. Marshall Islands

Abstaining and even voting yes on the matter simply because they know for certain that the usa will vote no, allowing them to save face.

It's a slippery slope. What's next? Water, food, shelter, healthcare, personal freedom, leisure? Give me a break with all these handouts and just give me the exploitable labor. \s

[–] pineapple@lemmy.ml 5 points 5 days ago

Wait we already lost those 💀

Breathing is socialist propaganda!

[–] mrmanager@lemmy.today 19 points 5 days ago

Communists and their free air..

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 days ago

People being able to breath makes it much easier absorb new information, even malicious information. Allowing people to breath is a plot by the reds to propagandize to God fearing Americans. My grandfather never breathed in his life; his brain oxygen levels were so low that the pinkos were never able to reach him with their lies.

[–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 37 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yea but where's the profit? How do we give the shareholders value if it's free?

[–] nekbardrun@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Hear my idea:

First we pollute the air enough to be almost unbreathable (as a side gig, we get to burn oil, coal steel...)

Then we make special facilities to filter said pollution from air before said air enters the house.

Then we sell these house for a premium with grade AAA+++ the best air quality ever.

Now, what to do with the defective filters?

Put in a house with grade B+ air quality.

Grade C will be the houses that get the air that was exhausted from AAA+++ and B+ (after being breathed a few times and with no filtering).

Grade F is the good old coal air that the people who can't pay will have to breath as they work in the coal burning facilities.

Even worse, one of those two votes is often enough to kill the entire thing, because they have unilateral “it has to be unanimous” or “this one specific country can overrule everyone else” rules on the important shit.

[–] ILoveUnions@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

You do understand why that is, right? It's because it's not meant to be a government, so pacts that won't be enforceable without certain countries are capable of being denied by said countries for the most part. Because it's diplomacy, not a government . Nothing stops the "yes" voting countries from making pacts with each other to go with the resolutions as well. Not doing that when usa votes no should show you something about their actual thoughts

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 16 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Content is 100% valid.

Just wanted to jump in and say that this map looks like it was drawn by the same guy that made Pokenots:

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

idk what this is but it looks way better than the official 'mon game.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago

They popped up on my YouTube shorts feed a few weeks ago; as best as I can tell they’re a fan-made set of booster cards, with the purpose of parodying/piggybacking on the current booster cracking (gambling) craze - right down to the fact that it has its own set of rare ‘chase’ cards.

I just find the low-effort art style and names charming, without ever feeling the need to participate.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago

I only know these exist from the guy who was posting YouTube shorts trying to catch them all...

Coughing x2 cracked me up the most.

[–] Potti@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago

Since Milei happened Argentina would also vote No

[–] jaselle@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

canada is supposed to touch the Pacific

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is that the only issue you found? Cuz almost every island would like a word.

[–] jaselle@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

not the only issue, but as a lemmy.ca user I feel obligated to put in a word
