Read this story this morning in my feed. Pretty shocking outcome to be honest. They'd been trying for EIGHT years to get these EV chargers funded for their region and then the mayor watched that channel 7 video about nickel mining in Indonesia. On the basis of that video he called a motion to cancel the install and it passed 4:3. Turns out that he also has some constituents who 'regularly contact him' whenever anything about renewables comes up - I'm sure you can imagine the type - and he decided to pull the pin. Side note - the ch.7 doco was debunked - turned out literally nobody uses the nickel from that Indonesian mine in car batteries because it's too low quality. He also failed to mention what the nickel in car batteries has to do with EV chargers that, since this is in Queensland, are probably powered by fucking COAL.

Cookers gotta cook.
Commercial “Journalist” needs to be held to a higher standard.
They should voluntarily do a retraction article of the same duration in the same time slot explaining exactly how they screwed up and how they will restore their integrity in the future.
If they don’t, the industry regulator needs to call them out on it.
I imagine it’ll get a minute’s coverage on media watch.
Which isn’t even a slap on the wrist. For modern commercial journalism, being called out on MediaWatch is a promotional opportunity! “Look how much we can corrupt reality, advertise with us”.
There really should be some sort of industrial standard for journalism. Like a lawyer needs to pass the bar exam and be in good standing or be disbarred, a journalist should have to be licensed or recognized and if they are shown to be spreading falsehoods or doing other unethical things have their license revoked.
