World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
- Blogsites are treated in the same manner as social media sites. Medium, Blogger, Substack, etc. are not valid news links regardless of who is posting them. Yes, legitimate news sites use Blogging platforms, they also use Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube and we don't allow those links either.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

What the hell is wrong with the ones who haven't lost faith in us?
OGs
When the Germans and the Japanese are disgusted by our behavior, you know we're wrong.
Americans have lost faith in the US
We live amongst angry assholes who are easily swayed by false information.
And scumbag liberals who ought to know better but keep compromising and collaborating with the fascists because they think it will get the angry assholes on their side
So do something about it.

Do what?
What is someone supposed to do about losing their faith?
Find a different god? That's called a tankie.
They're supposed to fix the thing they lost hope in.
Just the Germans? The only people who have faith in Trump are the dark villains manipulating him. They have faith he will always screw over the populace while giving them more power (or whatever the latest "causes suffering" thing they are into).
There's countries that still have faith in the US?
Israel.
Russia.
Do not confuse "useful idiot" as "faith".
Russia is happy, the vassal state is good at following orders.
Yeah, the bad countries.
Unfortunately, that's not the case with German politicians. They are living in their own reality.
It is the case, they are just not generally saying it out loud.
Germany is participating in all EU programs to curb dependence on USA, and are as active as everybody else in EU.
There's a lot of holding back regarding saying what they mean, because it's better for this ugly divorce to happen gradually, and prevent it from getting uglier than it has to be, because EU is not ready to cut ties with USA yet.
But Europe is preparing to not having to take shit from USA anymore. And these preparations are made easier by Trump undermining USA's economy and political influence globally.
AFAIK after WW2 the US economy was almost a third of the global economy, and now it is only about a fifth. The economic dominance of USA is declining, and with it, the political dominance will decline too, and with declining economy, their military will also decline.
We just have to stop propping the US economy up with continued investments in it. And by we I mean all other countries and especially democracies.
We've always known the yanks are bastards but at least they were our bastards.
Most of us still want to be your bastards, but we're being held hostage by treasonous criminals at the moment.
Join the club Germany.
Lost? He haven’t had faith in the US for at least 25 years.
And for good reason. Remember when the NSA tapped the German chancellor's cell phone, even under Obama? Not to mention the constant industrial espionage... It's been a long time since we could even think of the US as our partner or ally.
Every country is spying on every other country, always have and always will. That's nothing new, or partisan. That's just business as usual for ALL sides. Find something else to get outraged about.
Such as the open threat to invade a NATO founding member state?
Yes, that's a good one!
That's a separate subject, a Strawman.
It's a bit ironic, but last week we got the news that the BND has surveiled Obamas communication on the Air Force One for multiple years lol
Yes, very ironic indeed. Nowadays, everyone seems to be spying on everyone else. That's probably how it is in a world where the secret services operate outside of any democratic control.
Nowadays? That's how it's always been since any country had the capability of spying on others.
they needed a survey for this? I could name any country in the world (mostly) and tell you they've lost faith in the USA and be correct.
Even the Russians are probably not so sure about Trump any more.
They are sure that he is virtuosically incompetent, and just stumbles around breaking everything he gets near, and that's all they need. They don't need to direct him, just let him loose, and he'll do the job without any cost to Russia.
They don't need him to be on their side, it's enough if he is not on the other side. They knew trump is not reliable in any way.
So 75% of Germans?
"Three quarters," so yes.
I need to read this in detail when I have time. It feels like the majority of this is going to be based on the way the US treated Ukraine and the Tariffs. Both of which were bad. But, I feel like Europe is hating the US for the reasons that are very self interested.
Like, idk, the genocide in Gaza, the rising white supremacy and fascism. Starting WW3 with its aggression towards it's neighbors.
Am I wrong? Someone from Germany give me some vibes. I feel like Europe is following the same nationalism that will just follow the US in the way it treats its neighbors and it's citizens.
It feels like that Europe is hating the US actions but their solution is to be MORE like the US in response: nationalism and anti immigration.
nationalism and anti immigration.
Heavily pushed by US social media platforms, while the current US government strongly supports the German far-right AFD. Just another reason to hate the Fashist States of America.
