38 comments, and CTRL-F Epstein returns no results.

Evidently all the new distractions are working. Who would have thought.

[–] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 24 minutes ago

He's threatening to invade allied countries and he kidnapped a foreign president.

Yes, Epstein, that's your internal issue to fix. These threats are significantly more dsngerous and relevant to the rest of the world than fucking Epstein.

You elected a pedophile, everybody knew he was a pedophile, you live with your choices. But war becomes everybody's problem.

I'm still not distracted from the Epstein files, but know that until we get a Democrat congress there's a snowball's chance in hell of seeing all the files. Even then, I think enough Dem establishment will be questioned by being in them they'd want to bury it too.

[–] DougHolland@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

Trump is bored of peace and wants war.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Extortion anyone?

[–] sircac@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

The ones who joined so far look like the worlds "most wanted" list. Including himself.

[–] ryper@lemmy.ca 109 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Trump has invited the leaders of 60 nations to join the Board of Peace with the stipulation that each contribute $1 billion dollars.

It's not "Join the Board of Peace or get tariffs", it's "Give me a billion dollars or get tariffs"

[–] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 67 points 1 day ago (4 children)

This is called Extortion. It's obvious he thinks he can run the presidency like a mafia operation. But I think people in general are about done with putting up with this bullshit.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

He didn't even think it through that much. His thought process was:

"The UN won't let me do what I want. I'm going to make my own UN with me in charge so I can do anything I want."

"The UN I'm making is so awesome because I'm in charge, I should charge people to join."

"The King of France was mean about my super awesome UN, I'm going put tariffs on him! What does France sell? Wine and Champaign."

Thoughts 2 and 3 are completely unconnected. If you spent 10 minutes explaining the connection to him he'd think "I'm smarter than I thought, either way I get money!"

[–] RIotingPacifist@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's only extortion if it's from Southern Italy, otherwise it's just a shakedown

[–] Gerblat@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Sparkling shakedown

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 19 points 1 day ago

On the first go around Congress told him that "quid pro quo" is okay, so of course he's doing more this time.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 7 points 1 day ago

But not real mafia, this is a mafia movie trope at best.

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 5 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Does the French economy make 1 billion in champagne and wine? If not, then it's better to cover the losses by subsidizing the industry as opposed to giving even more away to some corrupt organization.

[–] Renohren@lemmy.today 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

They make about 820 million euros in champagne exports to the US (keep in mind this is only for champagne wines and only exported to the US) .

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 1 points 18 minutes ago

Thanks! That's a lot more than I would have thought.

[–] saimen@feddit.org 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I can't imagine US citizens drinking so much wine and champagne and the ones who do might even pay the triple price.

[–] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 2 points 9 hours ago

I thought so too. The import will never drop to zero, so the difference can be subsidized if France would think its wine industry is in jeopardy.

Ya know, privatize profits, socialize losses. Nevertheless, it would still be the better economic choice for France.

Spend 1 billion on Trump, or cover the losses for the wine industry. I know which number is bigger.

[–] Dragomus@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Some folks seem to think he is saying "pay into the fund for the Board of Peace", but I am quite convinced he means pay him that money personally.

Same with the donations for the inaugural ceremony... they directly ended up in Trump's grubby hands without anything to show for towards the American public.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

That is what it means. He can spend the money on whatever he wants.

It's also just another power play.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

Give me PERSONALLY a billion dollars, too.

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 53 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lmfao this God damn idiot. He's gotta know how stupid this looks. You gonna force peace? Leave it to a rapist pedophile to think he can force anything.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Its not peace in the literal sense, its protection in the mafia movie trope sense.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Macron, don’t join. The rest if the world will happily increase our purchase of your wines to offset losses stemming from any decrease in sales you experience in the US.

Lol! This is hilarious because my account was created as Thedogdrinkscoffee, but my instance lets you mask the username to something else and it seems only that instance's users can see the mask. I get comments on both names which is how I figured out some don't see the altered name.

My mask is StinkyFingerItchyBum

Am I still your DD? Bring lysol wipes.

This demented senior is using grade school yard bully methods. lol

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

And petulant child methods. "I'm going to make my OWN UN, then everyone has to do what I say!"

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Other nations need to stop playing and just wrip up all trade deals with the US and just move on. We're not going to learn until everyone moves on without us.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

If enough countries tariffed the hell out of US goods and services, this shit would stop. When corporate America starts yelling at the congressmen they bought because they’re no longer making any money — congress would suddenly remember they are the ones who legally control the power to set and repeal tariffs, not the president.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Don't tariff just stop doing business all together. Let those ships pull in, then return to sender.

[–] saimen@feddit.org 2 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

I am not sure if this is possible. It's private individuals which are doing business in most cases.

[–] itistime@infosec.pub 1 points 3 hours ago

Huh? Why can’t imports be banned? If my country bans imports (it has), then I cannot get around it by inly dealing with citizens.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Trade deals take years to make and are thousands of pages for a reason. Very few legal things enter a modern country without it being on a federal trade deal. These governments can 100% just send back everything made in the US. But remember, it's a big ask for those in power only cares about money and now power. So it won't happen.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I don't know why other countries don't respond by passing their own export tax/tarrifs...

If trump wants to double the price of your goods, fuck him and get your own slice first.

You still get paid for everyone shipped to America, but the importers only get paid when it sells. So that's getting business to go after Trump to lower his tariffs.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Because no sane government would want to reduce exports.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Reduced volume, but it will be because of Trump's tarrifs anyways, with no extra money for the companies selling or the country exporting.

Putting their own export tax/tariff, increase per unit profit to make up for lowered volume.

Like, it's a thing...

Just because you haven't heard of something or thought it thru, doesn't mean it's pointless...

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Or moreover tax their own citizens because of the actions of another country.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The importer still pays the export tariffs.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes which would be a native company or citizen not the tariffed country.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

This is literally the argument against US tariffs, even.

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Correct, and people still don't seem to know how they work, is baffling.

[–] delial@lemmy.sdf.org 11 points 1 day ago

This article is poorly written and the terms are confusing, so just to clarify:

  • There are TWO "Boards of Peace" floating around in the headlines.
  • They were both created by point 9 in the "Gaza peace plan".
  • By "Gaza Board of Peace", the article actually means the BoP's Gaza Executive Board. This seems to be what Trump is trying to extort Macron into joining.
  • The 60 nations, $1 billion permanent seat cost BoP is the top-level BoP that the Gaza Executive Board is under.
[–] n3m37h@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Pass, fuck Trump n Pootin

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Multiple leaders have expressed concern that the Board of Peace ... now appears to be ... a Trump-led opposition organization to the United Nations.

That sounds completely useless. It will be putin and trump demanding money from other nations.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

this sad cosplay of philip ii of macedon is to pay trump billion dollars to let trump become a global hegamon

trump is not philip ii

barron is not alexander

and aristole is dead

Shit's going to get real when they start tariffing russian escorts.
