Sharif is not politically active, but in 2024, some campaigners came to her shop and told her that Trump would be good for business and against the LGBTQ agenda.

“I was immediately hooked,” she said

Well, Sharif, FUCK YOU. You were immediately hooked because he was going to hurt other people.

And now he's hurting you (on top of them).

Cry me a river, Sharif.

Why do people harbor hatred for people living their own life. It astonishes me to no end

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 76 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Usually... a religious background. While most major religions do talk about inclusivity and helping others... They're also filled with stories and sometimes even instructions of how to destroy those that don't believe the same way.

There are religious leaders that push agendas of hatred because they have the power to do so and they're harbor that in their own heart, surrounding themselves with religion as a shield.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 month ago

With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.

Because they're fed lies and projection that those people are coming to ruin their way of life. And it's very hard to undo all of that reinforcement, a lot of dissonance and regret and introspection to navigate if they do along with all the inevitable lifestyle change required to leave that environment. That's why even the ones who admit they made a bad call, will usually only cite the consequences to themselves and their family. If they ever come around to actual stranger empathy it will be at least another year or two later.

“I can’t believe the man I supported to hurt people is hurting people!” 😢

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I mean, at some level you have to read these people as extremely indoctrinated. We've got a culture of such intense xenophobia and bigotry that people will throw their personal well-being out the window just to hurt some anonymous Evil Other.

On the other... Minnesota went blue in 2024. This person's vote didn't matter. Their residency added to an EC that gave Kamala Harris 10 points. They could have stayed home and nothing would be different.

It genuinely enervating to see folks pretend like Presidential Elections are some kind of contest of individual virtues. Like, what if she'd lied? "I voted for Harris so I don't deserve to be harassed and bankrupted and deported." Would that have meant anything? No. She's still going to get her teeth kicked in unless she's got friends and neighbors who will stand up in her defense.

I want to believe this is a moment for people to realize the fundamental nature of community solidarity. But instead it just feels like I'm reading the outlines for the next round of justified immiseration. Perhaps she should be punished for opening her dumb bitch mouth. Never talk to a reporter and people won't feel inclined to hate you.

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (10 children)

Sorry, I disagree with you.

Sure, let's accept they are indoctrinated. Their indoctrination is basically saying them that hurting others is a good thing as long as they are not from "the good group". And they get "hooked" on that?

Sorry mate, but I am one of those that, if I lived in her country would probably get hurt sooner than her (I'm autistic). If I lived in her country, Sharif would have voted to hurt me and the people like me. And she openly said she "got immediately hooked" on the idea.

Fuck Sharif, vigorously. Because it's on you if you want to be a piece of shit that gets indoctrinated by a "theory" that says, basically, "we'll hurt everyone that's not a MAGA".

"When I saw they were bigots just like me, I was really excited! Then I found out they're bigots in other ways too and it made me sad :("

Fuck you, lady. You wanted me and people like me dead.

[–] mirshafie@europe.pub 30 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

These stories often hit me with a pang of pity at first. Poor, dumb, moronic idiots, I just want to hug them and pat them on the head like the snotnosed children they are.

But as you pointed out, they were roped in to this with promises of cruelty toward others. It's hard to muster up empathy for that.

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 95 points 1 month ago

Get fucked Sharif. You voted to hurt people, and now he's gonna hurt you.

Eat shit.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 93 points 1 month ago (4 children)

“I just wanted him to kill the gays!”

Bigots getting what they deserve. Cry me a river.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Right? My immediate thought was "They're against the 'LGBTQ Agenda'? I was immediately hooked as I believe people just living their lives is an affront to me and I wanted to hurt others".

Everyone is getting what this bigot deserves. Don't gloat. Their misfortune is ours as well.

Notice how she doesn't connect the dots that bigotry against one group typically means bigotry amongst many.

"I Never thought the man I put in office would come for my family, make me financially struggle and cause so much fear that I carry my passport when I go to the bathroom"

I just thought he would come for your family and make you financially struggle and cause so much fear that you carry your passport when you go to the bathroom

Seriously, drop dead.

The one commonality between all the conservatives I know (both rich and poor) is that they cannot or do not care about anything that isn't obviously and directly affecting them.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Yes, indeed. The weapon you voted for is indeed coming to kill you and your people. And the desire and tendency to kill you and your people were abundantly clear the first time around. So the only conclusion to be drawn is that you’re an absolute fucking idiot.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 43 points 1 month ago

Voted for hate, receive hate. Reap what you sow, you dumb piece of shit.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 39 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It also astounds me that people with names like sharif would ever feel safe voting red at all let alone for trump. But no, gotta hurt the gays for... checks notes having literally zero effects on any aspect of my life.

against the LGBTQ agenda

I have a suspicion this person did not use those exact words when she described her position. Also I bet a lot of slurs were used when those campaigners arrived at her shop and convinced her they were "against the LGBTQ agenda".

[–] Riverside@reddthat.com 20 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

"But I wanted the gays to live in fear, not me!!"

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago

Jesus Christ Sharif, someone told you that he's going to come after people who literally just want to go about existing unbothered, ya know like you want to do, and out of fear you thought "hell yeah, hurt the thing I don't understand, you got my vote!"

The fuck?! Does it tax your brain remembering to breathe?

Clearly, Sharif, you lack the mental capacity to empathise with anything outside of your immediate experience, so perhaps a shared lived experience is your only route to empathy with people outside your immediate circles.

I wish you all the best on your journey to growing and hope, once your empathetic abilities are developed, you're able to be readmitted into humanity, but I don't wish for that journey to be a pleasant experience for you; may it be filled with fear, pain, and persecution.

Those who want to hurt others who are just trying to live their lives peacefully deserve to be hurt themselves. May she get roughed up and deported by ICE.

It's so clear she only cares about herself. If she personally wouldn't have been bothered by it she would still stand behind her choice. Fuck everyone one else, right? This selfish piece of shit can drop dead for all I care.

I swear to god, didn't even have to read it to know that this person owns a business.

The only "normal" people the media interviews anymore are small business owners.

If you don't a own a startup, have a registered LLC, or aren't a published author then you just aren't a person.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Do you understand what your country is yet? Because "citizens" are chattel and only money makers matter to those in power.

[–] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago
[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 month ago

Well hope you are glad you got your wish, it's sure good for billionaire business and not you, and along with the LGBTQ+ agenda, the agenda for people like you to live a normal life without tortue and cruelty, was what you voted against. May you forever regret your wish of harm upon others.

[–] user_name@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

One of today's (unlucky) 10,000 who has never read that one poem. They may come first for somebody you, a fucking bigot, don't like, but later they're going to come for you, too.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 11 points 1 month ago

Early humans must've spent a lot of time policing one another's mating habits and resource consumption, seeing as what effective tools those are at manipulating idiots today.

[–] deczzz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 month ago (9 children)

Remember that we gain more traction by accepting that some people regret voting for Trump rather than hanging them out to dry. Yes, I she sounds stupid too, but calling people stupid won't make them join our team. "It's OK, we all make mistakes - let's talk about your feelings about trans-rights and why it scares you".

[–] zarniwoop@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You don't get to tell people who are harmed, oppressed, and marginalized that they have to play nice with their oppressors. If you choose to take that task upon yourself, that's fine and noble but you don't tell a rape victim that they have to speak to their rapist after they realize they might have done something wrong. That's not how this works. That person wanted LGBTQ people harmed. Point blank. You don't tell LGBTQ people to play nice with them now.

Yes, I understand the political calculus at play. Yes, I'm an activist and organizer with over 20 years of experience in this. Yes, I know what's at stake.

Too bad. That's now how it works. My advice, keep people like her clear of people who will call her stupid (and worse), not the other way around.

And when she ACTUALLY understands why she's a horrid person, maybe then others will be willing to not attack her.

Until then, she's unrepentant, unreformed, and a repugnant human being and many will rightfully tell her that in no uncertain terms.

As a bisexual autistic man, I no longer want political traction.

The reactionary proles and reactionary immigrants that voted with the native fascists and wealthy fascists deserve whatever comes to them. They deserve worse.

I hope everything fucking burns, even if I'm in the fire. I'm intensely disgusted.

I will never feel any authentic positive emotion towards strangers in the US again.

I am sorry, but I have to say it. If you voted for a known GRIFTER, businessman that bankrupted a CASINO and had known ties to Epstein, expecting him to change your country for the better, you are fucking retarded. Just plain simpleton, with IQ of a frozen yogurt and a brain of just about the same consistency and smoothness.

This proves that not everybody should have the privilege of voting about things that have major, broad impacts. I am so glad I moved to another country from that shithole.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Several.

He bankrupt several casinos.
