Not like cops to hesitate to shoot people. I'm waiting for a pig shootout any day now.

A recurring problem with joining extremist organizations is that eventually it will outpace your personal extremist views and behaviors ... and then you will be a victim of it.

"First they came for the ..." is about people that were Nazis but not Nazi enough ... and in a Nazi-like society no one except Trump/Hitler will ever be Nazi enough to not be culled until the leaders cull themselves.

And remember that when they cull the bottom group that creates a new bottom group by definition. and eventually that new bottom group is gonna include you.

and they not gonna stop culling because of you

ICE is the modern Brownshirts. Once they became too powerful, they were slaughtered.

OTOH, we don't have anything like the SS to replace them with. Yet.

I'm waiting for the moment and ICE officer shoots a cop, or when there's a shootout between the two.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 13 points 2 days ago

OR, the situation becomes a case of mutually-assured destruction, like the Cold War. The cops don't want that fight, and the Panthers know it. ALL Cops are cowards at their core, they can't exist in society without carrying an arsenal, and elevating themselves above their fellow citizens. They won't engage someone they KNOW is equally armed, and BETTER TRAINED, and knows the law better.

They'd rather go after poor working people just trying to get by. They are more compliant, and can't afford lawyers.

Yeah but then that potential wake-up call gets put through the 2026 filter and out the other end comes... "Trump claims Harlem should be carpet bombed and casino parking garage built -- midwest gang violence the last straw even if it was Law Enforcement gangs this one time."

This is where if police departments wanted to gain credibility, they'd be arresting the ICE agents for assault with a deadly weapon.

Qualified immunity has a "reasonableness" portion to it. It's a pretty strong argument that ICE isn't being reasonable if a cop arrests them for assaulting a cop.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Qualified immunity protects government actors from civil penalties (lawsuits) as a result of their actions while on duty and when not violating the constitutional/civil rights of citizens (that's the "qualified" part). I.e., you can't sue the cops for the damage to your doorframe after they kick your door in serving a warrant. It does not protect government actors from criminal prosecution and does not grant them license to violate existing laws, and it never has.

This is also true for ICE, which is why Vance and Stephen Miller are suddenly so keen to start screeching that they think ICE now magically has "absolute" immunity, which there is also no legal basis for whatsoever. Those pulling the strings know that ICE is in fact routinely breaking the law, and they're desperately trying to get out ahead of it while anyone believes that any shred of equal protection under the law still exists.

[–] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If cops have qualified immunity that is very often used to say cops can easily get away with murder, and agents have Vance blanket twitter pardons, can they just all kill each other with no legal consequences?

How very civil.

[–] TrojanRoomCoffeePot@lemmy.world 108 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Now that it happened to us too, it's a serious problem. This needs to change." Fucking jagoff pieces of shit couldn't have cared less when it was the same people that they bully being oppressed by ICE. The shoe's on the other foot, and now it's a crisis.

[–] suicidaleggroll@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So what's going to win with the other police officers in the country? "Back the blue" and support their fellow cop, or racism and back ICE?

[–] Zirconium@lemmy.world 49 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Racism and back ICE. They think blue city cops are DEI hires

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 2 days ago

This is true and extremely funny.

Fuck you, I'm a cop!

Fuck you, you're a ~~racist slur removed~~!

That pretty much is how that goes.

Since ICE officers don't normally carry identification, or badges, or even show their face, there's nothing illegal about dressing up as an ICE officer as long as you don't actually claim to be an officer, right?

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Yep, it’s a Temu “ranger green” plate carrier, eBay patches and the rest of the shit you can get at either the flea market or the army navy supply store.

Gotta look identical to them if you wanna infiltrate

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Don't forget the morbid obesity, resting constipation face, and bruised knuckles from hitting your wife.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I think you're missing my point.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It actually would be funny if ice officers were shot at and the perp descriptions were identical to ice officers.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I'm glad that at least someone is putting the pieces together that I'm putting on the table.

You can buy everything they wear, even POLICE patches, on Amazon, eBay and Etsy. That's where I get my outdoor and gun gear.

[–] itistime@infosec.pub 39 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It always takes personal experience for these fuckers

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

O-blige them

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have been pulling guns on off-duty officers of color while illegally demanding their citizenship papers.

And when they identify as a cop, ICE doesn't verify and just walks away...

"And after the officer became so concerned, they were forced to identify themselves as a Brooklyn Park police officer in hopes of slowing the incident and de-escalating the incident down."

"The agents then immediately left after hearing this, making no other comments, no other apologies, just got in their vehicles and left."

Bruley said the anecdote was not an isolated incident.

Or: Off duty cops see dangerous fascists doing illegal stuff and do nothing.

I used to say "support all ICE victims" but now I guess I have to make an exception.

I'm not usually one to indulge in schadenfreude, but yeah when ICE comes for the cops I guess I'll just grab my popcorn.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 42 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fash-on-Fash violence. I don't not love to see it.

I guess watching ICE beat up a senator on live TV wasn't enough for these dumb motherfuckers to pick a side.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 44 points 2 days ago (10 children)

At a press conference on Tuesday, Bruley said he opposed abolishing ICE but disagreed with how federal officers were carrying out immigration enforcement.

We told them that they weren't safe. They didn't care. Enjoy the face eating.

Keeps getting better.

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The entire ICE campain of terror is to supress voters, right? People who fear for their safety will not show up to vote.

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 17 points 2 days ago

There is no end result they are looking for. This is the totality of their goal, using red state chuds to terrorize blue state citizens. This makes them feel powerful and gives them stuff to post online.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 19 points 2 days ago

It's bad, but they aren't doing it to on duty cops yet

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 2 days ago

Aw, piggy brain trying to comprehend being on the receiving end of illegitimate state backed violence!

Its kind of adorable, in a way.

Its like doing a magic trick for a dog.

sigh

I'll be amazed if they do anything useful, but I guess its technically a possibility...

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They were pretty quiet until it got them.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Actually, they weren't quiet, they were vocally expressing their support for ICE...

Who shot first, the ICE officer or the police officer?

Philosophical chicken and egg type question.
