Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I need a "calendar portal thingy" for my cleaning business. I would like to have clients log in to a portal and there's a calendar where they can input the days they want to have a cleaning. Then, I would like my cleaners to log into their portal and choose the cleanings they want to perform. Also, there should be automatic emails sent when jobs are claimed and cleanings are added.

I had AI write up a job posting for fiverr. If I show them this will they understand? I've never spoken to a developer in real life, I come here for the memes. I feel like this is an easy project for someone but I've been wrong about many, many things in life. Here's the prompt: Build Simple Client + Cleaner Calendar Portal for Vacation Rental Business

Description:

I run a vacation rental cleaning business and need a basic portal set up.

I want property owners to be able to log in and submit their cleaning dates easily. I want cleaners to be able to log in and claim available cleanings.

I already have a Google domain. I’m open to using Airtable + Softr, or another simple solution you recommend.

Key features I need:

Property owners submit cleaning dates + notes

Cleaners see available cleanings + claim them

Status updates (claimed / completed)

Very simple user experience

Mobile-friendly

Bonus if you can connect it to my Wave account later for invoicing, but not required for now.

I want someone who can get it done cleanly, communicate well, and not overcomplicate it.

Please show me an example of a portal you've built before.

Thank you!

Before you post your request, have a look here:

https://www.sharetribe.com/

It's a platform for setting up your own custom marketplace, which is exactly what you're describing. It's a no-code solution and pretty customisable.

At the best, it might give you an immediate solution to your needs. At worst, it'll give you a starting point to explain to your dev what you want. Win/win.

Okay yes! This is cool, thank you.

That should be enough to get started. It can be easier if you clarify a few things:

  • remove "Very simple user experience". It means nothing.
  • Mobile-friendly is fine, but you may intend "mobile first"? See it that feels right to you.
  • Draw sketches of the customer's UI, your UI, and the cleaners' UI. It may feel like a lot of work but trust me it's going to save ten times the effort in communication total.

Be prepared to spend at least 3000-5000 USD on this. Anyone offering less is not able to do the job.

I love the idea of sketches. it's really simple, I think. Simple login page>calendar>form to fill out (address, name, date)>updated calendar. Then for staff login page> calendar>click on date>select available cleaning>calendar updated with cleaning assigned to staff member. Admin(me) login> approve schedules>manage users>settings etc. Would this make sense to someone who can make computers do things?

As a computer dothings maker, absolutely! I'd request a sketch or make one and ask if it fits the client's intention as the first step of any such project.

As a developer, it looks clear enough to me, but I'd suggest two changes.

"Status updates" - You don't say who you want to be able to view the status of a posting.

"Bonus if you can connect it to my Wave account..." - probably better to phrase it "Ideally it would connect to my Wave account...". You're listing requirements, after all.

Also, you might need to consider adding an admin page where you can manage accounts, see all jobs listed, etc. although the rest of the post is high-level, so maybe it's something to bring up in the discussions.

Finally, I'm sure you realised this already, but the last lines of the AI response are for you, and not part of the text itself.

Thank you for your help. Yes' I would like an admin page to approve the schedules and manage the users and, I suppose, whatever else needs to happen behind the scenes. You have helped me clarify what I need!

Before hiring someone, investigate what is already available a bit more. Read reviews, watch videos, sign up for some services and check them out.

There are services that exist that can do what I need but they also do a lot more than what I need. I don't need payroll, no clock in/out, no marketing emails. I just want calendar only with log in pages for cleaners and clients for scheduling purposes. Also I don't have it in me to learn how to do this on my own. I haven't done html since myspace.
