Yep, definitely "the good guys".

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Ostanin was also convicted of offending the feelings of Christians with another off-colour joke he made about Jesus, which angered Orthodox nationalists.
This is arguably the greater crime. Fuck off religious people, keep that shit to yourself and don't bother others about it.
Asked by the judge on Wednesday whether he understood his sentence, Ostanin said: "To hell with your judicial practice. No, I don't."
This guy is a fucking badass. What a terrible shame. Hope he comes out on the other side in one piece.
Plot twist: For IPR theft. Because jokes about the russian military write themselves.
Prisons full of comedians keep parliaments full of criminals
In Putins Russia joke is crime and crime is joke.
One of the very first targets of Putin, while realizing his power, was a kids show that portrayed Putin himself as a not-so-smart villain. The comical character they made for Putin apparently caused Putin quite some distress.
The egos of tinpot dictators are more fragile than porcelain. Remember that Xi had to ban a cartoon bear.
These fuckwads are pathetic.

What a chad.
Anyone know what Chad equates to in Russia? Vlad?
Sorok Sorokov, a powerful Orthodox nationalist group, said many Russians had not understood that times had changed and that the state should tighten its control over such performances to stem what it called a general decline in moral values.
"In recent years, comedians have often crossed red lines and made jokes about topics that are taboo in any normal society," said Georgy Soldatov, director of the group's human rights centre.

A glimpse into the near future of the US
That is a joke worth hearing. Congratulations to anyone capable of writing a joke so good, that it is a crime.
In Russia government is joke!
I mean, kind of not really from the sounds of things. It was a joke about a veteran who lost his legs to a landmine running over his foot in the Moscow subway with the skateboard he used for mobility. Not exactly any social benefit from the joke, just a crass ablist jab. Apparently the audience didn't really appreciate the joke either so I doubt it's just lost in translation.
Horrendous to be jailed for a joke, but I also don't think it was a good joke.
A tasteless joke is worthy of being imprisoned for 9% of your life expectancy?
My guy I literally said "horrendous to be jailed for a joke". Get mad about something I actually said please.
But why even delve into the specifics of the joke? He could utter gibberish and slurs and and laugh at the end, none of that deserves any attention from the government whatsoever.
Because the comment I replied to was directly commenting on the quality of the joke?
"Congratulations to anyone capable of writing a joke so good, that it is a crime."
This is directly saying it's a good joke. I'm saying it wasn't a good joke. I also said how bad it is to be arrested for a joke.
I fail to see how this is complicated.
I've seen this one. It's great. At the same time as a revolution is fomenting he gets out of prison and gets elected president. It's a classic.

This type of justice is coming to a United States near you!
Yeah, it's pretty close already - Late Night Hosts losing their jobs was the first step, and Trumpelstiltskin suing newspapers over polls and other stuff has worked too.

Taking notes America?
This is your path unless you wake the fuck up.
Do you all think the US admin is worried about this particular country's free speech in Europe? Surely they do, right? RIGHT?!
