Chomsky in writing: the world is being destroyed and looted for the profits of billionaires and the media is manipulating you to think this isn't a problem

Chomsky in person: the media needs to stop reporting on the sex crimes of my billionaire "banker" best friend so he can throw me a birthday party.

First thought that goes through my mind is: Chomsky is critical of Israel so the zionist troll army goes all in on this story to distract from bigger targets.

That's funny because epstein is an israel agent

Chomsky wasn't critical of Israel though he opposed BDS and was a Zionist.

I was deeply interested in ... Zionist affairs and activities – or what was then called 'Zionist,' though the same ideas and concerns are now called 'anti-Zionist.' I was interested in socialist, binationalist options for Palestine, and in the kibbutzim and the whole cooperative labor system that had developed in the Jewish settlement there (the Yishuv) ... The vague ideas I had at the time [1947] were to go to Palestine, perhaps to a kibbutz, to try to become involved in efforts at Arab-Jewish cooperation within a socialist framework, opposed to the deeply antidemocratic concept of a Jewish state (a position that was considered well within the mainstream of Zionism)

Quote from Chomsky, on wiki

"I wanted to do kumbaya with genocidal ethno surpremacists instead of siding with the colonized but then didn't"

Notice how you didn't post the BDS part.

Wasn't he really weird when it came to describing a genocide as a genocide because the numbers where a bit low. I always found him to be a very odd person.

He acts in a very quasi enlightened way similar to the most snarky liberals or "enlighten centrists". Never understood the hype around him

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 month ago

The"hype" around him is about the fact (yes it's a fact) that he made generational contributions to the field of linguistics (probably decades before he met Epstein) and a lot of people like his book "Manufacturing Consent".

He is the epitome of "Murica bad". Every opponent of America has to be incapable of evil (Serbians would never commit a genocide) while it's allies are evil personified.
