A draft executive order to declare a national emergency to allow President Donald Trump to take unprecedented control over voting is being circulated by anti-voting activists who have said they are in coordination with the White House.

A version of the order, dated April 12, 2025, has been circulating among anti-voting groups, and some progressive groups, since last year.

Peter Ticktin, a Trump ally and a leader of the effort, provided the April 12 version to Democracy Docket. It’s titled: “Establishing Security, Integrity, and Transparency for United States Elections with Protections Against Foreign Interference.”

Lawyers and legal experts have explicitly said that an order giving the president the power to take control of elections would be blatantly unconstitutional.

Trump said Friday he has “never heard about it.”

Ticktin, who attended military school with Trump, is an attorney for Tina Peters, the former GOP Colorado county clerk who is currently serving a nine-year state prison sentence for her role in a 2021 voting system breach, in an attempt to find voter fraud based on election conspiracies.

Nothing says national emergency like going editing a draft about it for a year. its hard to word something blatantly illegal as legally sounding as possible.

The language of all these stories bothers me. Executive orders don't "grant" any power at all. They Claim power but are not a law. States run elections. States with fascist governments can point to an EO and play pretend that it has some force and weight and then choose to do what Trump wants.

Media is framing this like if Trump signs this BS EO, that it will give him control over anything - and it feels like their framing is designed to soften the ground, trying to get people to go along with it

that is exactly how it has worked for trump in both terms… at this point it's not the media trying to fool you; you are fooling yourself

I mean, you're right and the media is right. How can anyone stop these mother fuckers? For real. The republicans won't even slow him down much less stop him. Everyone left in the military to stop him seems to have left. I hope there are some sleeper ones that can still stop him, but I don't see it. I don't want to be like the trolls and be pessimistic, but what can a normal person do?

Trump said Friday he has “never heard about it.”

Of course, this means he approves of it, just like Project 2025

Martial law by October everyone. Not a joke, not a guess. Get your guns now, they will be banned.

I'm sitting on 2000 rounds RN. Hopefully I won't have to use them, but I'm definitely not sure anymore.

All you need is one round to fix the problem.

[–] ToTheGraveMyLove@sh.itjust.works 2 points 24 minutes ago (1 children)

The problem is deeper than Trump. One is not enough.

[–] pigeonofparadise@lemmy.org 1 points 21 minutes ago

Sure. But 2000 rounds used efficiently and NOT on soldiers would be a gigantic win.

It's OK! It's Unconstitutional and as we Know the Supreme Court cares DEEPLY about the Constitution and ONLY makes Decisions based off that Document and NOT who Gives them the Best Yacht!
