This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.

Most of the comments here seem to be talking about the politics of the gender roles, but no one really seems to be mentioning that Uber should only be used as a very last resort. Call a Taxi, a friend, take public transit. Do not support the VC startup trash that doesn't pay their ~~employees~~ "contractors" living wage.
Taxi drivers and taxi companies rip off passengers. Taxi companies don't do fixed rates agreed-upon before the trip.
I'm not going to mooch off a friend.
Public transit can't always get me where I need to go when I need to get there in a reasonable time (but it is my first choice when it's too far or unpleasant to walk).
If the issue is the drivers not being paid well, then tip well.
When taxis and/or public transit can improve their services to the point where Uber doesn't replace them, then Uber will be redundant.
I wonder what happens when the guy identifies as a woman.
Totally fine with this, they actually should get rid of ability to share a ride.
i see more complaints about misogyny in the comments here than actual misogyny. Which is good, I'm just wondering what I missed
Men are upset that women feel the need to protect themselves against men.
No, men are upset that there's nothing they can do to assuage that fear. Imagine if half the world thinks you're a grenade with a faulty spoon, and there's nothing you can do to show that you have had your gunpowder removed and cannot explode. You're just resigned that you will always be viewed as a threat even though you stay far away in public, don't talk, keep eyes down, ear buds in, stay at home and hardly leave the house. What more can we expect from them?
Okay but where? On balance there are not a lot of those comments and they're downvoted through the floor. The complaints make it sound like they're alone in a sea of angry men.
You can sort by controversial or just open the replies under some other comments. There’s plenty of sexism against women here.
A lot of the nastier comments on lemmy aren’t super in your face, they’re subtle jokes about women being bad drivers or that it’s not fair to say men are violent against women.
