Incorrect: Trump tilts the ones whom the US HAD BEEN allied-with, toward Beijing.

Trump's, & once his dictatorship's instantiated, executions/PURGE & all, then Trump's ONLY allies, & therefore Trump-dictatorship's US's allies, will ONLY be the far-right territory-leaders/possessors.

Millei, Putin, Orban, Netanyahu if he's still alive after nuking Iran, Farage, etc.

They'll probably be all-too-happy to do business with Trump's dystopia/hellscape.

EU citizen here:
One major issue where USA has failed completely since the 70's, is sustainable green energy.
Europe has worked on that consistently since the 70's, and we now use about half per capita of USA for similar productivity!

China takes this issue seriously, and does way more than USA, despite USA is the worlds biggest economy, they are among the countries that have done the least.

This is even more important than democracy, where USA is absolutely failing too, and not even supporting Ukraine against Russia. An innocent democracy attacked by an authoritarian aggressor that has decided to be the enemy of the west that wants to rebuild a former empire, when there was a strong opportunity for cooperation and economic growth.

USA is also threatening allies militarily, and is waging a trade war against partners and allies.

There is nothing left to cooperate with USA on. USA has placed itself morally below China on all major global issues. And has shown complete disrespect for national sovereignty and international law in every way possible. Something China respects, and has promised to keep respecting.

But Republicans have dramatically increased in their American arrogance and disrespect of other nations and even their own democracy since Bush, So USA isn't even an allied country in the western goal to protect democracy anymore.
On the contrary they are working to undermine Ukraine, something USA also did under Biden at the same time as Biden helped Ukraine economically and with military equipment, Biden tied Ukraine's hands on their back, forbidding any kind of attack into Russia! And for 4 years USA has given Russia unhindered access to Starlink, and recent data shows that Russia had 3 times as much traffic using Starlink as Ukraine had!

USA is not a friend to anyone anymore not even their own population or their own rule of law or their own democracy. USA is looking a lot like Russia did in the early 90's. So no surprise that people are beginning to see China as a lesser evil than USA.
At least China respects sovereignty and international law, and isn't warmongering like USA.

It's so over:

The king has no clothes.

Trump has done more to destroy USA in a year than Bush did in 8, and Trump himself did in his first 4 year term.

Not that these are wrong, but I wonder about recency bias. Have these indicators been trending downward for 20 years, or is this just a response to our current crop of morons?

If Obama v2 was elected tomorrow, would these instantly reverse, like the international opinion seemed to when he took over from W?

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 2 points 34 minutes ago

There's probably going to be some reversal in such a scenario but I think this time it goes deeper than that. People see it's not just the clowns in the White House, it's also all major American corporations and their owners. Those won't change with the coming of Obama v2, and they're not about to start exracting less from us. Meanwhile China's gonna keep taking more and more mindshare with more and more high and low tech products in people's lives. I think a significant reversal that puts the US above China would only occur under an FDR figure that curbstomps the whole US oligarchy.

This fucker is singlehandedly dismantling global US economic and political hegemony.

Honestly, with USAs track record over the past century, it's probably well deserved for it to crash and burn. I'm just worried about the flaming fallout that will crush everyone else underneath, and what new monster will step in to take its place.

MAGAts bro, they are usually extremely low IQ individuals, and believe everything he says.

Right now china is probably our least of problems. This is probably why.
