Meeting all day would be fine, if that were the entire job. Like, if I didn't have actual work that was expected to get done, too.

I don't know if it's like different learning styles or what but some people just need to have a whole ass call. I'm like, I'll just write you a nice message you can refer back to. Nope.

Translation: I know you're not going to get this done on time. I'd like to pre-schedule some time to berate you for it.
Or, "I've already asked 6 times and you never even looked at the email."
Yeah as much as useless meetings are annoying, Somebody always ignores their emails. And those meetings are just due to this person.
If it is one-way communication it should always be email. If it's something that requires direct simultaneous input from more than 2 people, discussion on best way forward, or it's time critical always make a meeting. People always fail to answer emails in a timely manner, and when they do they only answer half the questions you asked them. So you end up going back and forth for 3 weeks before you have your answers for something that would have been resolved in a single meeting in the first week. And itgets exponentially worse with 3+ people.
Oh and the amount of people that straight up ignore email requesting information from them is staggering...fuck those people.
90% of my meetings are Teams / WebEx. I just get other computer work done on the other screen while I listen to the meeting because there's only 5-10 minutes of the 1 hour meeting that pertains to me.
Sort emails. Respond to emails. Get CAD modeling done. Place orders for stuff.
Love getting some down time to get stuff done.
That was my last job. Spent all day on dev calls as a secops engineer just in case they needed to ask me a question. I got asked one about once a month
There is a scenario where I would prefer this outcome.
All too often in a meeting things start spinning because they have decided to do stuff, but have uncertainty, so they keep going around in circles speculating on what might go wrong and speculatively worry about everything.
Take a break and then we will continue your precious meeting after we actually know what didn't pan out. 95% of the time the follow up would be "it went fine, didn't need endless contingency plans".
