Laura Loomer lamented that the new pope ‘is anti-Trump, anti-MAGA, pro-open Borders, and a total Marxist like Pope Francis,’ adding that it’s ‘GROSS’ that he now leads the Catholic Church

It didn’t take long for right-wing media figures and MAGA provocateurs to cry out in rage over the election of Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV after it was revealed that he’d publicly criticized JD Vance and expressed sympathy for immigrants and George Floyd.

Despite feeling national pride over the fact that the Chicago-born Prevost has become the first American pope in history, conservative pundits and Trump loyalists fumed over the “WOKE MARXIST POPE” and complained that he is “worse than Francis,” referencing the previous pontiff known for his progressive values.

Even before the “dark horse” American cardinal was elected the 267th pope, former Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon warned about Prevost’s views, claiming that he would be a poor choice for the MAGA movement.

This is PR to try and make the new pope attractive to young and leftist people. He’s nothing new or progressive, he’s a pedo enabler who told his priests to reject the law and avoid speaking to police investigating his clergy’s child abuses. He’s garbage, just like the rest of them

[–] MithranArkanere@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

That's part for the course for the Catholics. For them their dogma is over the law. You gotta take what you can from these guys.
A pedo enabler who happens to advocate for the poor is still not good, but also not as bad as a fascist-enabler, pro-rich, pedo enabler.

It's funny how if I get in a minor collision or if I get my house inspected everyone's quick to "It's totally gone, have to start over, here's a cheque". If we can all see that an aging corporation is rotten to the core the money just pours in.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whatever is a "poor choice" for the MAGA movement is a great choice in my book. Even if it's about a religious figure.

[–] SouthEndSunset@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He completely ignored sexual assaults.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Sounds like the Catholic Church, alright. But I'm pretty sure the MAGA crowd doesn't give a shit about that.

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Judging by all the stupidity from this administration, Trump is going to ask the pope to step down. Or try to fire him. Or ask Russia to assisinate him.

[–] philophilsaurus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 23 hours ago

Time to Tariff™️ the Vatican!

[–] Stylofox@lemmy.cafe 18 points 1 day ago

If MAGAts don't like him, that gives me a lot of faith in him.

[–] idealpink@feddit.nu 19 points 1 day ago (3 children)

[–] phar@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think you mean actually follows the teachings of jesus. If you actually follow the teachings of the Bible you probably actually would be good with donald. You would be good with slavery. The Bible is a really f***** up thing

I knew it-- just KNEW IT-- the moment we learned the new Pope was American, I knew the MAGAt moron brigade would immediately be expecting the guy to be some gob-slobbering jackass racist like them, expecting him to start licking drumpf's toes.

The fact the Pope isn't going to be ordered around by King Damp Pants is going to be a talking point for Faux "news" Entertainment for a while lol

I love how they lost their shit about an American speaking Italian, in Italy, to a shit load of Italians.

The American nationalism has truly rotted their brains.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

he should speak latin to really make thier minds explode.

[–] twt@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's bad enough half of his speech at the Conclave was in Spanish. You know from that he's insufficiently AMERICAN. And his dual citizenship with Peru & USA makes him doubly suspect.

[–] pornpornporn@lemmynsfw.com 91 points 2 days ago (1 children)

MAGA hating the new pope is the biggest compliment he could possibly get

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago

molten fake american cheese.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 351 points 2 days ago (21 children)

When you start calling every leader of the Catholic Church a Marxist, you've seriously lost the plot. The American right is ridiculous.

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 132 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (6 children)

They should cut to the chase and call Jesus a Marxist.

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. Luke 12:33

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Mark 10:21

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:34-40

Thinking a second about this, he literally pwned MAGA

The entire conservative line of thought is backed by Christianity and American exceptionalism, and now there comes an American pope and tells "You're not following the God's word". That's a damn checkmate.

Wonder how many MAGA supporters, many of which are devout Christians, will start questioning their beliefs.

Also, lol, a Marxist Pope is top comedy.

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 64 points 2 days ago (5 children)

They won't question their Christian beliefs for a single second because they didn't have any in the first place. They'll turn their backs and say "The Pope went woke," still call themselves godly Christians, and continue to spread hate. During that whole time they will never question whether or not they're Christian, they'll just hate the Pope too.

Maybe.

The pope doesn't like evil? Huh, imagine that.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 36 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Whaaaaat? This isn't what Jesus would have wanted!

Greed 4:19 "You get your own fish and loaves. I paid for this. I can throw it on the floor if I want. Suck it up libtards!"
