MODERATORS

Hey guys. Im trying to fully move to lemmy.
Unfortunately many subreddits I was using - are not represented on lemmy. So I figured I would just sync content from reddit for those communities - so I scripted auto-reposter of top most popular reddit posts to lemmy.

but. im running into issues.

Lemmy communities that sometimes 0 content with last content sometimes posted 2 years ago - they ban me for "spam" when I auto post content even if their lemmy communities literally have no content...

This community just banned me, last post in that community was 2 years ago:
https://lemmy.ml/c/buildapcsales

What are they even moderating?
I cannot make this shit up.

Anyways - I would rather do my own server then deal with mods worse than on reddit that actually allows that.

Starting lemmy server - which hardware to get? Dedi? ram? cpu?
What does lemmy.world uses? Thank you.

Locking for rule 5.

Maybe invest some time in learning the culture of a community here before force injecting a reddit spam feed into it?

!selfhosted@lemmy.world

As for the auto sync, no one here wants that. There have been entire instances dedicated to that, they were highly defederated.

If I wanted to see Reddit content then I would go to Reddit.

This is a shit idea, IMO. I actively block such content.

but I cannot use reddit without ads - they started blocking on mobile.

at least on lemmy - we could see all reddit content without reddit ads

Reddit has ads?

RedReader(Android app, FOSS, in f-droid and play store) has no advertisements.

You can use Firefox or Microsoft Edge to get extension support(ublock.) there's other options as well. Via(Android) is really lightweight and has built in adblocking.

Theres oldlander extension for old.reddit.com.

You can also use the ublock element picker to filter the mobile pop up... Or clear your cookies (or disable them in site settings.)

yes I was using Firefox with ublock. and they started showing unskippable switch to mobile app message:

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2026/05/why-reddit-blocked-my-daily-visit-to-its-mobile-website/

look - I dont want to use reddit. thats the point. I want to ensure reddit goes digg way. I dont need it

You may want to look into the lemmit.online instance, it mirrors reddit content here and may already mirror the comms you’re looking for. Like another commenter said tho, many people have defederated or blocked it because a lot of us use the fediverse rather than reddit for a reason - so don’t be too surprised if you get a similar response.

I’m also not a fan of just mirroring reddit, but BAPC sales is one of the very few types of subreddit I can see being useful to mirror since it basically exists to be an rss feed and comments don’t provide as much value as usual. If you focus on comms like that maybe your instance would be less likely to be blocked?

lemmit.online

Registrations are closed

the plan is - siphon reddit content until lemmy community is big enough where it does not need that.

BAPC sales is one of the very few types of subreddit I can see being useful to mirror since it basically exists to be an rss feed and comments don’t provide as much value as usual.

rigggghhhttt!??!!?? their slogal is literally stolen from subreddit. wth

the plan is - siphon reddit content until lemmy community is big enough where it does not need that.

People have attempted this before. Like others have said, it didn’t really go well and a lot of people blocked those communities or have entire instances defederate from them. I think it was lemmynsfw (RIP) that thrived with mirrored content because, well, porn.

I’m still subscribed to communities that post via rss bots, but it’s for specific topics (i.e. tech, hackernews), not general content.

But hey, the beauty of the fediverse is you can do whatever you want on your own instance, so feel free to do it. Don’t be suprised though if not a lot of instances will choose to federate with you.

Why don't you use post on Lemmy? Reddit didn't have a lot of users either it started naturally.

Maybe post the links on reddit back to your instance on Lemmy and start getting engagement.

Reddit is bot and shit head garbage now. Nobody wants the majority of reddit here.

[–] Grumpus_Maximus@thelemmy.club 0 points 5 days ago

look - its ok. we dont need to argue. lets agree to disagree.
I will create my own instance

What does lemmy.world uses?

The great majority of people on asklemmy@lemmy.world are not going to know, because the community is not specific to lemmy.world or focused on the server.

You probably want !support@lemmy.world for that.

Welcome to the official Lemmy.world Support community! Post your issues or questions about Lemmy.world here.

This community is for issues related to the Lemmy World instance only.
